I'll have to remember the acronym for the future, lest some cruel twist of fate happen that brings that hammer down on me, lol. To bring it back to US Politics in order to avoid tempting fate so much; How do people feel the US is taking this insurrection? So far we're three days out, and I'm personally a little alarmed at how quickly people's feelings about what happened seem to have deescalated. Triply so from the Republican side. I didn't think they'd pull a "lets move on" literal days after. I'm afraid we're going to be a situation where noone sees any real consequences from this. Like, the dude that got his photo taken with his feet up on Pelosi's desk is only getting a maximum of one year. I feel like this is being taken very lightly considering it was a neo-fascist (Im going to switch to neo-fascist from proto-fascist in light of the Republicans deciding they're embracing fascism) coup that stormed the US Capitol. Am I just being uniquely pessimistic and fearful? | ||

I asked myself "what is the worst thing Republicans can do" but I thought releasing smallpox back into the population was unlikely so I settled for more or less what is actually happening. That being said, Biden is the biggest culprit in the eyes of Republicans, at 52%, compared to 28% for Donald Trump and 26% for the Congressional Republicans who opposed certification of the election results. how do you ever bridge that divide? for you to change you first have to acknowledge the error in your ways. the crackdown on all fronts with police/law enforcement and social media companies is well and good - though only after the damage is already done. it is treating a symptom rather than the problem. | ||

Instead of unity and swift action we again see the public opinion split and political jockeying for power. I was thinking how different it might be in the old days where you had to wait days or weeks for news to travel. Would we treat this event with proper seriousness if each day was not an overwhelming flood of news, opinions, social media and click bait? We don't have time to think anymore when the news cycle churns on and a million opinions heap up, vying for interest and visibility, before we even have a chance to form one. | ||
