It wasn't until much later that I learned it was a SINGLE $1200 check. I was under the impression it was 1200/month for a long time It's honestly disgraceful. I don't believe in government intervention in an economy; but if you're going to intervene, at least do give it to people who need it the most. Not oligopolies.

If he can do it long enough he may even keep Loeffler and Perdue off the campaign trail in Georgia.

The negative nancy in me wants to say this is just cover against attack ads. But it would be pretty cool if it ends up happening. But I honestly would prefer no payments and taking back senate. We could do so much more than that with the senate.

That way if Republicans snub the $2000 check it'll have all their names on the vote instead of McConnell refusing to let the Senate do its job. Win win there, either you get the vote and have Loeffler and Perdue return to Georgia having denied Georgians two grand or you refuse to vote on it and keep Loeffler and Perdue out of Georgia and the Senate in DC. Its nice to see some exercising of power.

Regardless of how this turns out, cynically positing that Loeffler and Perdue are only voicing support for the increased payments due to the impending runoff doesn't make you a negative nancy, it's an accurate assessment. Opportunism is basically the only principle Republicans adhere to with any kind of consistency.

Or they know it won’t come to a vote. They’re always willing to pledge votes after confirming it won’t matter. It’s why so many things barely pass with a few Republican defectors.

Mitch gives 0 shits and doesn't care if people know he's an evil slimeball bent on sabotaging our government, but if it can actually come to a vote it might have a chance. Part of me wonders if Mitch is planning to be the one to take the fall by not even letting the vote happen. So everyone can say they’d vote for something that won’t even be allowed to happen? That still helps Democrats in Georgia but not as much as Georgia candidates opposing 2000

I'm not sure what the Republican game is anymore or if they even have a plan at this point. It made sense to me when Trump didn't sign the bill under the guise of 2000 dollars so they could torpedo the bill. Now that he did and we also might end up with 2000 dollar checks I'm very confused.
