The potential to use this “unprecedented” event as a talking point to potentially win Congress and the presidency seems to be more important to Democrats than the policy consequences of the event itself. If the Dems are using it as a talking point then they are doing the only thing they can do. There is no way for the Dems to stop the vote if the Republicans want to go ahead. | ||

"We can't do anything about it" is one of the oldest tricks in the book to justify inaction on the part of an organization that never really cared despite notionally being very concerned about the issue. They certainly could have done more, but it really doesn't seem to be very high on their priority list. | ||
