There have been some big events in US politics, like the new tariffs and Warren refusing a Fox News town hall because she doesn't want to provide them with cover for their shitty, racist coverage. But no one seems to be posting about that stuff. The tariffs dont really seem to make a dent to me (west cost middle class) so they never really mean much. It hurts my friends investments when the dow tanks but its only ever for one day and then the dow comes right back. The tariffs just dont really hurt anyone I know so I never really consider them. I know they suck, and I know they hurt a lot of people, but I never feel the pain.

These two quotes from the above article say everything that needs to be said on this: “It’s not China that pays tariffs,” Wallace said. “It’s the American importers, the American companies that pay what, in effect, is a tax increase and oftentimes passes it on to U.S. consumers.” Trump said on Saturday that China should “act now” to wrap up a trade deal with the U.S, warning that “far worse” terms would be offered to them in what he predicted would be his second term as president. When even Fox News people are pointing out that these tariffs aren't working the way Trump seems to think they do, you know things are not going well. Kudlow tries to defend the tariffs by saying they could harm China's GDP due to lower imports but even he seems to tacitly admit that the tariffs aren't doing what Trump thinks they do.Trump also suggested that the U.S. was “collecting” big tariffs from China. “Would be wise for them to act now, but love collecting BIG TARIFFS!” he tweeted. With soy bean prices apparently hitting their lowest since the recession, I just don't see how this can go on without harming farmers even more.

US Attorney of Connecticut Durham will lead the investigation. Hopefully this one doesnt take 2 years (since there is a paper trail of all FBI activities, it shouldn't). On top of this the IG of the DoJ is expected to release his preliminary findings on the FISA warrants this month. None of this undermines the Special Counsels investigation since it was Trumps actions while in office that led to that, but for the sake of transparency there is def enough smoke to justify an investigation into the original warrants. Tho ofc this could also blow up in Trumps face by putting a spotlight on just how compromised his campaign was to justify the investigation in the first place. Edit: did I miss something? Why is this thread so dead? Seems weird to separate the discussion of Democratic candidates to a diff thread from the "US Politics " thread. I’d rather know the answers, and that’s even if things were much less sinister as they now appear. I’m a little tired of Comey saying things in interviews that are contradicted by other sworn testimony. The same applies to McCabe. The Fusion GPS Ohr-FBI Ohr pipeline needs examination. If only known bad apples are involved, that’s fine, but publish the timeline and key events.

Conversely, a lot of people around here (Great Lakes Midwest) are acutely aware of the tariffs due to the prominence of the big three automotive manufacturers and agriculture.

Do they Support/still support trump? I was reading an article about farmers who are really being hurt by the trade war and need it to end, but still support Trump. I was wondering if it is the same everywhere. If his base is loyal through pain thats a good sign for his re election

I would be suspicious of anyone who makes categorical statements about them. The anti-abortion stuff that’s being pushed is also energizing a ton of folk on both sides of the aisle.

Much like when voters who voted for Obama then voted for Trump, I doubt anyone “switching” will be that loud about doing it. They will just do it on election day and move on. But that won't stop the press from asking supporters "Do you still support Trump?"

But no one seems to be posting about that stuff. Can only speak for myself, but it's the sheer number of crises/scandals/crimes that this administration is currently involved in. Like, what's the point of discussing it anymore? Most of us normal folks know what's going on. Talking about it day in and day out has changed nothing. Sure, some of the conversations and perspectives may have added a very small something to our understanding of the Trump Treason Shitshow, but I for one am just over it. I barely even lurk anymore. We are going to war with Iran, Tariffs/oil/healthcare/drugs/life will hammer the populace into financial ruin, Trump will send us into a recession with more China shit (thus making our financial hardships even worse), and he already gave the wealthy a ton of "our" money through the tax bill. So as the country descends into chaos and fiscal ruin, and 100k+ soldiers are sent to be meat shields to prevent Trump from going to prison as he wags Bolton's dog, he will make a play to remain in power through 2020. That's where we are. Crazy conspiracy no longer. And to make things even worse, if Trump Jr. ignores the subpoena from the Senate without repercussions, our system will officially be broken and useless. The icing on this shit cake is the fact that Barr/Trump will use every little bit of info they uncover re: the "oranges" of the investigation to continue to trick gullible rednecks with propaganda (HURR DURR STEELE DOSSIER), and whatever they find that doesn't fit the narrative (cause you know, this shit was already investigated. There will be a lot.) will be redacted into oblivion. Fuck this timeline.

I don’t really think the whole lunatic conspiracy theories of him staying in office regardless of the 2020 vote will help, because the fringe actively promoting that stuff already owns Abrams & Gillum absurd election denial and it’s just too far out of the mainstream. The same goes for the “system officially broken and useless” types. They’re too far to an extreme in the political spectrum to serve as useful counterpoint to Trump and buoy his progress towards re-election. I think Biden and Klobuchar and Sanders would show a great fight in 2020. The rest of the bunch don’t show promise, but it’s early enough for them to switch tacts.

But he doesn't have any democratic mandate and will probably be another Egyptian result of the Arab spring. Hes certainly has the support of the Egypt Saudi axis in the middle east. I don’t think either “axis” is particularly good, but Egypt/SA looks to be better than Qatar/Turkey.

I can't imagine right now a scenario (that involves Trump) where anyone stays home thinking their vote won't matter or that their guy has it won. I live in California my vote doesn't matter atleast for president. Certainly matters more as you get more local but for president with the electorial college my vote doesn't mean much.
