So Mitch caved. All of the pressure from AOC and other places probably paid off here. People were ignoring Mitch for WAY too long and then it finally stopped. This allows for there to be a vote with and without wall, showing how well the government could function without this insane campaign promise.

But I think there is a growing concern in the GOP that they are going to have to force Trump’s hand to get the government re-opened. McConnell is not somebody who acts in good faith so I'll believe it when I see it. All it takes is one call from the WH and you'll see the House bill vote cancelled while the poison pill one goes forward.

The republicans are already getting beat up over this so more bad press isn't a good idea

I think it is far more likely that both bills fail and we are back where we started.

If McConnell was fine holding a SCOTUS seat hostage he will have no problem doing whatever is necessary to try and "win" in this scenario. I dont trust the snake one bit, so again I'll believe it when I see it. Even if the House bill get voted on I expect it will still fail despite the fact Senate Republicans voted unanimously for basically the same bill last month. Would be pretty embarrassing to have the bill reach the president after all this bluster, so I can see him rallying votes against it.

Holding up scotus nomination is far less impactful on people's immediate lives than month long government shut down. But yeah probably even if house bill gets through it will be voted down or vetoed.

But this is how the left gets what they want. No protest votes or uselessly submitting the same bill to congress. Get power on powerful committees and use it.

To top it all off, all of these people who have unhealthy reverence for titles are going to hate seeing her ruin Trump's life. AOC, guide the party.

The other thing I like about AOC is that I know she has faced some opposition within the Democratic party for how outspoken she is. But she never talks about that. She keeps the focus on the GOP’s obsession with her and keeps all the in party infighting on the DL. A lesser politician would run to her supporters, but she is smart enough to know that she has to win her own fights within the party to get anything done. It also doesn’t help that she makes Republicans look silly constantly by being completely unapologetic. No real gaffes, and the way she's been handling the haters has been masterful. The few times she did something silly, she just let it roll off her back and corrected her mistake.
