OK so I am thinking about getting a haircut, and maybe actually make it interesting :O
I don't want to get bleached/dyed/colored/highlighted in any way, though.
My hair is medium-ish length, maybe like length of Mantoss', a little shorter? Asian.
Basically just asking for pictures and ideas, if not too much trouble.
I have some ideas ['cause I have 100s of Reach/YellOw photo -_-;] but more always nice ^^;
thanks for help.
woooo jinho~

shave/buzz your head ftw;O
Seriously, if you haven't tried it at least once, i highly recommend it. (coming from someone who has had medium-long hair most of his post-12 life)

do you have a picture of your face? Haircuts should compliment the shape of your face etc.

Yeah, I'm looking for a new cut, too. But you have to keep in mind your face shape and hair type. There's a lot of styles I can't do simply because of the texture/thickness of my hair.

I'm telling you dude, short hair is the way to go =). You have to be willing to style if you keep your length, something most guys are too lazy to do.

whats up with fobs with long hair? my abc friends went to asia for vacation and now theyre all into growing their hair out -_-a

cuz the short and spiky look that every freaking asian has in the U.S. is getting boring i bet
|
Lawl... I'm growing my hair out...
Although I think I should cut it soon, as it is now going into summer.
Personally, I just like having hair that you can somewhat shape, as opposed to something short, spiky, and unidirectional.
|
whats abc mean mnm?
short and spikey = you look like youre from the middle school era. if you go with the short hair, make it semi layered atleast. buzzcut is a buzzcut and its cheap. barbers go for like 8 bucks. But if you want a nice haircut, you'll have to go to a stylist.
everyone has it look: Really? Everyone has it? EVERYONE? - point being, pick a haircut that you like, who cares if everyone else has it, most males in the US practically have short hair. that and a combo of 2 dollar gel from the store = win
your face looks to be oval/round-esque btw.

yeah, I don't really want short hair.
and "everyone having" that hair isn't much of a problem, really. Not many Asians at my school, and of those, not many have very Asian style hair.
|
Post some pics of hair that you are considering right now. All you really have to do is bring a pic to your barber and I'm sure you can work something else.
|
I think some of you folks should choose hairstyles that complement your features more than basing your choices on movie stars who look *way* better than you ever will.
Ares, you dont have a receeding forehead but it is prominent. Ever try shaving it off?
|
|
Here we go again, taking celebrity hairstyles photographed by a professional and thinking thats how the world will perceive you in real life. No offense, but your hair looks ridiculous in that first shot. Just be normal, flashy haircuts only look good on camera. Unless you're goin to the club and want to look like a faggy showoff, they look fricken stupid walkin down the street.

The pic you posted up of jinho is very achievable. Have some layers in your hair, thin it out, and style.

Actually I had hair like that before. Bitches lined up by the mile.

cut it short but not like military or super short... then fool around with gel... Oh right your forhead >_<;: I used to have longer hair but it didn't suit me at all when I washed it it would curl hugely so friends of mine would call me mylady idk why they're french/wierd . I cut it short and its a lot better so dont grow your hair long its a hell of a lot of work/ uncomfortable and summer get a forhead operation then see what you can do.

Don't know how I let myself miss a hair thread for 3 pages since I'm a bit of a fanatic when it comes to hairstyling and stuff, but I'm impressed to see that a lot of the info given here is on the spot. NewbSaibot and others who said something about professional hair =/= hair irl for normal people is right. Reach and YellOw get touched up before every match by professionals. It is in KTF's best interest to keep Reach and YellOw looking GOOD because if not, they lose fandom and subsequently, money. Unfortunately, the lot of us don't have personal hairstylists that can touch up our hair before a date, before we go to the store, before we go out, etc. You just have to find something that's practical and sustainable.
If you ever do end up choosing a hair style you like (hopefully from an actual hair styling site that gives examples and different angle views and key notes on cutting it, and not from a starcraft website or korean pop star website edit2: I do have to admit that this doesn't ALWAYS apply, for obvious reasons. Sometimes pop stars have some easily attainable hair, I was just trying to get the fact across that sometimes it won't turn out as well for more advanced styles because of the reasons already listed as well as others), you have to also consider certain things. The shape of your head (as discussed previously in this thread), the type of cohesive used (gel, wax, pomade, clay?), it's limitations (how long can it be before it goes out of whack), etc. This is all if you're just genuinely serious about it, otherwise you can just probably trust any good hairstylist to do something that more or less fits you well.
edit: as for a site that's good, www.bombhead.com/hairshop.htm is pretty decent. I tend to look at Japanese websites (bombhead is Koeran. There are subtle, noticeable differences in both "trendy" Korean and Japanese hairstylings) I'm on my secondary comp atm so I don't have the links I usually use for Japanese styles. Not to mention if you live by a little tokyo or something, you can probably buy magazines that focus on men's hair style + fashion (there are tons, and they go more in-depth if you or your hairstylist can understand it).

Panorama, any suggestions on a site? I'm considering a new cut but not really sure. I guess a few pictures would help.
|
Sorry, forgot to add that in. Check out my edit above .
|
Yeah, that's where I got the pics on page 1...bombhead. You guys are right, you can't expect your hair to look perfect all the time, so find a style that is low-maintenance. Jinho's style isn't hard to do at all, and I think it'll be good on you.

Hmmm interesting. It's just that my hair is so thin / wavy for an Asian's that a lot of cuts don't work.
|
My hair is pretty thin and straight. For me, I can create a wavy look to my bangs by getting it cut a certain way (though it does require extra help via the use of wax), and possibly your hair can gain a bit of texture if you cut it differently (sometimes some hair stylists, not knowing what you really want, will just give you normal trims that forego the presence of layers/some texture, etc. though I don't know your case specifically). You should also know that you can create more artificial looks your hair wouldn't otherwise be able to achieve via foil perms, or otherwise just damaging the hell out of your hair (by bleaching, dying, etc.). I tend to like my hair be healthy, so I don't dye it or anything and the only artificial stuff I use on it is just hair wax. It kinda limits me, but I like what I currently got now.
I'm sure that you can eventually find something you can work out though, it just really depends if you like it enough to warrant what's needed for you to attain it. For what it's worth, I go to a very good Korean fob hairstylist (not multiple from the store or whatnot, only one because she has the most experience with what I want and how I want to look, imo forming a bond with your hair stylist is key because it usually creates better results, though I guess it varies from place to place) that cuts for relatively cheap: 20 dollars a cut, I tip 5, monthly. I guess it's a stretch for a lot of people, but I personally think she could charge more, and I like what I get, so I don't mind.

Yeah I feel ya. Price really isn't an issue for me because if they can do what I pretty much picture in my head, I feel it's worth it, but I've been moving around a bit so it seems I always have to start over again and again with each stylist. Plus, sometimes I'm not even sure if certain cuts are possible, and if it is, how to do it. I guess communication is just terrible on my part. ;D

lol, I don't really "choose" for people when they ask, it's really about what you want or what your "inspirations" are (be it other people or just anything at all). I especially don't wanna feel bad if I pick out something for you, and you're like meh about it and get it cut that way and it ends up being something you don't want. Really, while hair styling to make it look cool is standard, etc. I think there's also a lot of self-expression involved in it (I feel that I can more or less accurately guess one of a guy's key personality aspects based on their hair/face 90% of the time, though I'm prolly giving myself a lot of slack). So for that reason, the best advice I can tell you off the bat without having seen your picture/seen the length and characteristics of your hair is to read my first post in this thread, look through sites and/or magazines for styles, look at what you genuinely would like but seems kinda impossible, etc.
For me I get a lot of "inspiration" from a lot of stuff. From pop stars (I was even looking at GoRush's hair for a bit a long time back, but note that the key is inspiration and not emulation) to seeing my shadow on the wall walking down a hall in my house, because the shadow is distorted a bit by the angle of the wall and the light source, it creates a different view of how the hair at a part of my head really is and I think to myself "maybe I should try that next time as best as possible". I also get inspiration when I wake up and my hair still has a bunch of wax in it (I usually shower in the mornings, not at night). So I wake up with this "bed hair" and sometimes, by random fluctuation, my hair derives some really cool aspect in a certain part (be it the front, sides, or back). Really strange, I know . If you do want help after you've chosen some things, you can pm me or whatnot (don't really wanna derail LR's thread here ). Good luck~

Hmm I think I gotta choose my words wisely here to avoid giving any bad/wrong info:
It's more like patterns/trends in the fashionable styles that I've noticed. Very very broadly speaking, trendy Japanese hair tends to lean more towards longer styles, while most Korean trends stay within short-medium. There are a ton of exceptions, and in a lot of cases, there's a lot of overlap now. I also believe Koreans tend to have more volume in their hairstyles (think Casy's hair, and sorta NaDa's), while in the popular Japanese community, there's more thinning out and waving at some points. Of course, you'll still have Japanese people who have bushy hair, Koreans with thinned out hair, etc.
I'm really bad explaining with words, so I'll try to use pictures.
At the near-extremes of Japanese popular hair style, you have the visual kei hairstyles. These were largely influenced by the long hair styles of 80s American metal-ish bands, but have deviated into their own stylistic form.
For example, Here is Alice Nine:
(they're all guys)
The styles worn in Japanese Popular culture (think the backstreet boys of Japan) have their hair much more watered down. The hairstyles have a very broad range, but a lot of them lean towards a longer, thinner, more colorful approach (Japanese tend to dye all of their hair instead of just certain places, in general). Additionally, Japanese tend to like to grow out their bangs to a longer extent. A lot of Korean styles' bangs usually end above their eyebrows, sometimes waved that way. Some Japanese styles may have bangs that go past their eyes, etc.
Shinhwa, Korean pop group.
NewS, Japanese pop group.
I have to admit both pictures are a tad outdated though.
I think since you seem more inclined with Korean styles because of the swarms of Reach/YellOw pics you save, you may end up liking Korean styles more. But like I said, there's a lot of overlap nowadays, anyway. Another way of putting it, Korean styles are a bit more conservative in general, Japanese styles tend to make you look strange if you're surrounded by white people (I'm guessing 90% of white people that read this post have cringed at the NewS photo, even moreso at the A9 photo, and were just like meh about the Shinhwa photo).
Sorry if this presentation sucks. I don't have links to the sites I usually peruse because those are on my comp at school, but for now if you're still interested, you can google image different pop groups to see the wide variety. You should note that some bands, particularly Korean, tend to change their hairstyles a lot each time they release a new album or something. So you might see huge differences even within a single group at different times.
Korean: Shinhwa, Dong Bang Shin Ki, Super Junior, SS501 Japanese: Arashi, KATTUN, NewS, V6
If somehow you're actually genuinely interested in more jrock and visual kei styles, you can google up L'Arc~en~Ciel, Alice Nine, SID, 12012, Gazette, Dir en grey, Luna Sea, Janne Da Arc, etc. there's a ton of them out there.
