There has been a large amount of drama surrounding this year's AGDQ. Most of it seems justified too.
The most recent one: a person got denied entry when he showed up after a $600 flight because his registration payment got rejected without any notification.
The staff has been extremely lackluster in this area. This is not the only story of this sort I've heard this year, among other things.
Because of how the GDQs are managed and the direction the organisation has been taking, an increasing number of speedrunners have decided to stop supporting it. I've barely been watching anything this year, only runs done by friends basically.
I'm gonna shut up about it now and let everyone enjoy the speedruns. If you want to know more, there is more than enough info scattered over twitter.

It's really unfortunate to hear that there's drama that's led to less support by some people, considering it's for such a great cause.

Yeah it happens with everything when it gets "so big". Someone tries to take control and someone becomes too big for there boots and the cause is lost.
To deny entry to someone who flew there and had bought a ticket seems silly.

me neither, i played lost world because somebody got it for me lol
i never found what made them "great", you go fast but it always felt the stages were never made for you to be fast lol
