https://x.com/oliviachow/status/2108351838210982054 Toronto is doomed. It does not matter what the mayor does. The working poor are fucked. In 2006, i paid $550/month for a bachelor pad at 387 Sherbourne. I paid my tuition, car insurance, and rent and graduated with almost $1000 in the bank. Cheap Toronto rent was a factor. it is sad to see what Toronto has become. Olivia Chow has done an OK job under impossible circumstances. On October 09 2026 05:26 Billyboy wrote: Yes she a populist liar. That’s one article, google and look into it if you want. She flip flopped like she does and blames immigrants for her issues because it works on people like you who forget what people said years, months days or hours ago. meh, if the Canadian immigration system fails it should be identified. if that failure results in bringing idiots that should be identified. the way Canada's economy is right now it can not attract smart, ambitious, hard working people the way it could in decades past. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/commentary/article-mark-carney-has-started-fixing-immigration-he-needs-to-keep-at-it/ if the immigration system is poor and brings in idiots they'll get blamed. if the immigration system is great and the economy is great we'll bring in ambitious, hard working, smart immigrants. the quality of the typical Canadian immigrant is lower than it was in the decades where Canada's economy was booming. smart, ambitious, hard working people have no reason to come to Canada. Step #1. Fix The Economy.

"it is not the purpose of a government to right the past ... we can not rewrite history and it is our purpose to be just in our time". The greatest Prime Minister in Canadian history folks. What did I say boys? https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/stelco-nationalize-9.7376461 Nationalize Stelco and then sell it to a Canadian.

A threat from Bob Rae has credibility. Bob Rae cleaned up the Ontario auto insurance industry in about 2 weeks by scaring the snot out of them. He is easily the best politician equipped to deal with Stelco. Bob Rae's threat to make auto insurance ... government run was the perfect medicine for the Ontario auto insurance industry.

Glad I don’t have to move provinces yet, hopefully we can make through at least my kids school ages before we take off!

Hardworking, productive 25 to 44 year olds are leaving Ontario in droves. It is sad to see what Mississauga has become since Hazel Mccallion quit. Perhaps you can move to Toronto and rent an apartment that is 2X the mortgage I pay on property that is 2/3rds of an acre.

His friend had gotten a job in the Calgary police so he went and applied to, met a girl and got married. But if somehow the whole separatist thing actually took hold in any serious way he'd probably try to move to BC or back to Ontario and here in Ottawa to be close to family. Said he didn't want to have to raise kids with separatism actively hanging over their heads, but also said it was basically a crock of shit at this point and that it was never going to have any serious close result like we saw with quebec in the 90s. So he wasn't ACTUALLY worried in a way that made him lose sleep or actually worry about it.

I had 5 separate people say they voted yes to pressure the federal government even though they know leaving would be an economic disaster. That being said who knows how much that changes it, but I’m confident that there is not a significant amount that want to leave but votes to stay. Glad I don’t have to move provinces yet, hopefully we can make through at least my kids school ages before we take off! Yeah agreed, question was far from "Should Alberta secede" and more "Should we even have the conversation about Alberta's secession". There's plenty of space to say yes to the latter without thinking the former. I mean, I didn't, because I'm not super interested in leveraging the threat of secession for Alberta's gain, zero sum.

A lot of things on that whole ballot that even had 50% support essentially require Alberta to threaten seccession anyway. And they just decided "nope we don't want to even talk about it". So Smith has effectively nuked a whole hell of a lot of her leverage to even try and negotiate on those topics. Also some are just asinine and feel like they were put there to just justify having the referendum at all. As if, no matter how much Alberta votes in favour of it, Canada can just drop the senate because Alberta doesn't want one? Its just so strange and now Smith has shot herself in the foot because now the separatist sentiment people are unhappy with her and the non-separatists are also unhappy, and now she'll be ineffective in new ways for people who want the province to have more of its own say in general too so they'll be unhappy. Terrible political strategy.

![]() its great to watch! Guys, Vote for Left-Winger and Empath David Eby... you know why? ...because he has children and kittens. ok guys? LOLOL. the media is hilarious. https://www.ctvnews.ca/vancouver/article/leader-profile-how-david-eby-balances-kids-kittens-and-running-bc/ On October 21 2026 03:09 Billyboy wrote: I’m well aware, are you aware that the fact that they are rapidly growing is one of the separatists biggest issues? Did you somehow think that I’m struggling to find work and this was why I was and am considering leaving? What in the world would give you the impression that I want to move to Toronto? And what is your obsession with hazel mccallian? And why do you think crow baring her into your posts completely unrelated to her or Mississauga will further whatever you think your point is? Alberta is the place to be! ![]() The job market in Alberta is better than it is in Ontario; this is why Calgary and Edmonton are growing. That's also why young people in places like Toronto, Brampton and Mississauga are moving to Alberta. https://www.fraserinstitute.org/commentary/exodus-young-people-suggests-ontario-increasingly-less-desirable-place-live Looking at working age individuals (15-64 years old), Ontario had a net loss of 80,323 people from 2020/21 to 2023/24. If we zero in further, roughly 39 per cent (40,608 individuals) of the total net loss during those four years were young individuals aged 20-34 years old. The #3 and #4 biggest cities in Ontario are Mississauga and Brampton. They are filled with economic immigrants. They go where the money is. you might consider the USA https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/other/us-is-taking-in-a-lot-of-canadians-immigration-numbers-up-142/ar-AA2fUWNH things are bad in Ontario. https://kingsvilletimes.ca/2026/06/ontario-faces-highest-net-out-migration-in-30-years-study/ The group warned that fewer rivals for U.S. green cards from the rest of the world will continue to make it easier for Canadians to head south, and that “those who go are mostly highly skilled and well paid.” I'd like to add that it is not just "the money" as the primary reason for leaving Canada. Tech projects in the USA are more interesting. US entrepreneurial culture is stronger with American leaders more willing to ride with a new, cool idea. Canadian leaders merely want to "keep up with the Joneses". So in Canada you'll see an US-based Insurance company create XYZ new product with a suite a never before possible SERVICES. A Canadian company will merely want to imitate XYZ. That is boring compared to making something for the first time ever. It seems its almost always a US based company that will create the XYZ Insurance Product & Service ... FOR THE FIRST TIME. This creates a more rewarding and fun work environment in the USA as opposed to Canada. This is one of the pathways Canadian techies follow. The TN Status (USMCA): Thanks to the free trade agreement, Canadian citizens with a tech-related degree (like Software Engineer or Computer Systems Analyst) can get a TN visa directly at the border with a job offer letter. It is cheap, fast, and valid for 3 years.

Canadian society doesn't incentivize "getting yours" the way American society does as our safety nets allow us to be more risk adverse. We don't need to swing so wildly, meaning fewer home runs but also greatly fewer strike-outs. There are pros and cons to this, but I prefer our setup and people are welcome to prefer the alternative. And US entrepreneurial culture is heavily dependent on cheap capital in order to sustain its productivity advantage. As interests rates increase and available cash tightens, you begin to see the proportional amount of losers eclipse the amount of winners by an even greater degree. I wouldn't want to emulate that society in the context of modern wealth disparity and financial uncertainty.

https://www.reuters.com/legal/litigation/navigate360-says-hackers-accessed-system-potentially-exposed-sensitive-personal-2026-10-23/ its time for a made in Canada secure solution. these clowns are constantly squawking about Canada first. Welp, now is the time. Considering what the Crime Stoppers system did they should be able to slap together a minimum viable product in six months max. One of my customers owns a media company that runs a chain of adult stores along with a adult film production facility in Montreal. He is pouring through all the leaked data to see if any one ratted him. He offered to pay me to help him. LOLOL. I wouldn't want to emulate that society in the context of modern wealth disparity and financial uncertainty. nah, US entrepreneurial culture was stronger than Canadian entrepreneurial culture even during the sky high interest rate days of the late 70s and early 80s. While the macroeconomic pain was felt equally across the border, the U.S. ecosystem possessed structural and cultural advantages that allowed entrepreneurship to thrive, ultimately giving birth to the modern tech and venture capital industries during this exact period. i prefer a society that rewards hard work. the USA does that better than Canada. Also, none of this has to be a "Yes"//"No" thing. Thanks to the USMCA is not hard to become a dual citizen and get the best of both nations while avoiding the worst of both as well. I find Americans to be too harsh and too confrontational. If economic opportunities and work environment quality were identical ... I'd live in Canada. I don't think the USA will ever match how great Canada was from the time Pierre Trudeau became PM until 2014.

How cool… he went to jail a couple of times in his 20s. he is now 62 though. he got a pardon decades ago. if you think he is currently engaged in criminal activity you are merely speculating. i don't think he is a criminal. Due to his line of business he gets accused of stuff though. He wants to know who the rats are. He pays extremely well and he pays on time, every time. it is fucking hilarious that Crimestoppers was dumb enough for their system to get hacked. it'll be interesting to see if they are smart enough to build a secure system in the future. Right now CrimeStoppers credibility is zero. It is going to be interesting to see if some dumb rats receive some retaliation because the data is readily available. If I ever used Crimestoppers it'd be on a cash paid burner phone and cash paid SIM card using an email address whose only purposes was to communicate with Crimestoppers. The phone would be off every minute i was not dealing directly with Crimestoppers. Any rat dumb enough to give their real info to Crimestoppers... i don't know what to say.
