Jihadist attacks by muslims against mosques is literally something out of a dark comedy from britain called the four lions. I recommend the film, it humanizes things and its actually quite funny

Just want to say that there is no actual report of them beeing islamist. It's just one guy that told the media that he heard one of that say allahu akbar, but there is nothing official.
That beeing said islamist attack mosques all the time in the middle east.

Can anyone confirm or deny reports that the two suspects names are Basheer Al Taweed and Hassan Matti?

Let's hope it will remain a single attack like that.
It's also a reminder that the two sides of the conflicts are those who think we can live together and those who think we're too different to do so and not this Western vs Eastern propaganda.

Ugh, from my city. Thankfully I currently live in Korea, but I was supposed to go back in about a year, and this is of course a bit scary. Hopefully this doesn't happen again, in any city

The irony of this tragedy is baffling :/

Irony? Sectarian violence is pretty common in ME. Sunnis attacking Shia mosque is nothing new. Not saying thats what happaned i cant read French so i dont know what article is saying. But i dont see anything ironic in this.

Yeah, I don't see the irony here at all.....

The Mosque that was attacked is a Sunni mosque, Morocco has 99% sunni Muslims.
The irony lies in the fact that his happened exactly the day after Trudeau announced his policy of welcoming without restriction.

It's probably not that important but the mosque probably also served Shia, Québec is not that big and I am 90% sure there is no official Shia mosque.

Where have you been the last few years? Isn't this what has been happening in Turkey nonstop lately?

Suspects name released: Alexandre Bissonnette and Mohamed Khadir

Mohamed Belkhadir is now considered a witness, Bissonnette is now the only suspect (he is the one that called the police to surender himself after the shooting).
Still no motive confirmed, the guy was a student in political science and antropology, probably on the right in the political spectrum, he is beeing describe as a pretty normal guy, no clear history of racist or violent talk.
Edit: well never mind it seems like he was active online against refugie and feminist, seems like an extreme right attack, Belkhadir has probably nothing to do with it he has been release by the police, just at the wrong place at the wrong time.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer exploited the attack to justify President Trump’s ban on immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries. “It’s a terrible reminder of why we must remain vigilant and why the President is taking steps to be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to our nation’s safety and security,” Spicer said at this afternoon’s briefing when speaking of the Quebec City attack.
But these assertions are utterly false. The suspect is neither Moroccan nor Muslim. The Moroccan individual, Mohamed el Khadir, was actually one of the worshippers at the mosque and called 911 to summon the police, and played no role whatsoever in the shooting.
The actual shooting suspect is 27-year-old Alexandre Bissonnette, a white French Canadian who is, by all appearances, a rabid anti-immigrant nationalist. A leader of a local immigration rights groups, François Deschamps, told a local paper he recognized his photo as an anti-immigrant far-right “troll” who has been hostile to the group online. And Bisonnette’s Facebook page – now taken down but still archived – lists among its “likes” the far right French nationalist Marine Le Pen, Islam critics Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, the Israeli Defense Forces, and Donald J. Trump (he also “likes” the liberal Canadian Party NDP along with more neutral “likes” such as Tom Hanks, the Sopranos and Katy Perry).

I'm anti feminist and anti refugee. Probably in a much different way way that this man but being those things doesn't make you an extreme right winger.
+ Show Spoiler +Because I'm sure it will come up: I'm anti feminist because the current feminist movement as it stands today is nothing more than a man hating philosophy designed to get free rides up the corporate/social ladder. I'm pro equality between the sexes. Modern Feminism however, is not.
Im anti refugee because we do not screen them well enough. The best comparison I can make is Mad Cow Disease. Terrorists are like Mad Cow Disease. They are under 1% of the total cow population yet we screen vigorously for it because that 1% of infected meat can kill 100's. Refugees are the other 99% the cows. Except without as effective screening. If we do a better job screening, I'll be all for it.
The biggest flaw in this comparison is that if one on cow is found to have it the whole herd is slaughtered. Lets never do that lol.

Perhaps it doesn't make you an extreme right winger but it certainly makes you someone who has listened to some extreme right wingers and bought what they say. The framing is the same.
