Namecheap Sponsors Team Liquid

Namecheap sponsors Team Liquid

After our big announcement last week we have yet more exciting sponsor news for you, as we welcome Namecheap to the ranks of esports. Namecheap is a leading domain name registrar and web hosting company, known for their strong anti-SOPA position as well as their support for net neutrality.

During our earliest conversations with Namecheap, the first thing I did was to ask R1CH what he thought about them. His reply was that we were already using their services for our domains. Having worked with R1CH for such a long time I've learned that his stamp of approval is the ultimate achievement for a tech company like this. Having heard that, I knew we had to make this deal to happen. There is no better promotion than the genuine usage of a company’s services. If we were using it before ever talking to them, we can certainly recommend that you do the same.

With their support for net neutrality, they fight to keep the internet free and open for everyone. For those not in the know, net neutrality is the principle that internet service providers should treat all data on the internet equally. As an industry that heavily relies on streaming services such as Twitch, we directly depend on net neutrality to exist. This is not just for practicality however, it is a question of priciple. I can't imagine a world where the internet and information are subjectively locked by some global conglomerates based on what they think we should be doing with it.

I'm excited and proud to work alongside such a company. This sponsorship is not the only activity Namecheap will have in esports. They really plan to put themselves out there in order to become a part of the scene. Needless to say it is important for major companies to see results from their investments in order to make them worth it. This means that the more people react to this sponsorship by picking them as the domain name registrar of their choice the better.

If you are looking to put your domain with a company that is worth supporting; consider moving your domain to Namecheap. For those of you looking to register new sites you too will be welcomed with open arms.

Let Namecheap know you care on Twitter @Namecheap. Thank you for reading and thanks for all the support,

- Liquid`Nazgul

For the longest time, Team Liquid was the only place to go to find all your esports news and to see how your favorite competitive gamers were doing, even if they were thousands of miles away in Korea. If you were beating all of your friends at Starcraft, you went to Team Liquid to humble yourself.

When I joined Namecheap to help launch their esports adventure, I knew we had to find a team that shared Namecheap’s ideals. It was a godsend to discover that Team Liquid not only used us for their domains, but also strongly supported our stance on Internet freedom.

Ever since Brood War, esports have been a huge part of my life, and Team Liquid has been my favorite team to follow. They’ve played a huge part in some of my favorite esports memories: the Summer(s) of Taeja, Sea’s mech play, Savjz’s run during SeatStory Cup, and—of course—Sylar falling and Liquid doing it. Now, with a supremely talented League and CS:GO team, Team Liquid is poised to have an amazing 2015.

With all of this in mind, I am incredibly happy to announce Namecheap’s sponsorship of Team Liquid, an organization that not only has a storied history, but also shares our values. We are also incredibly excited about our upcoming collaboration projects, which we hope will provide a ton of value to the esports scene.

Here at Namecheap, we love esports and couldn't think of a better partner to begin our journey with than Nazgul, LiQuiD112, and the rest of the TL guys. TL FIGHTING!"

–Sebastian Park (@Seb_Park) Head of esports, Namecheap

I didn't spell that at all. that's a completely incorrect statement. Though I think if they could do both that would be amazing.

Well, just the overall appeal of having like 4 teams now. SC2, Lol, CS:GO, Smash > SC2 alone.

I had a (stupid) question, when TL gets a sponsor like this, are they specifically sponsoring the website or TeamliquidPro, or is it an umbrella sponsorship where they're helping fund everything under TL like Liquipedia, liquidhearth etc ?

Supportive before the teams came around, probably. But I think additional talent in sponsor acquisition was one of the big benefits Liquid got from the Curse deal.

Hmm, with EG + co now owned by Amazon and the TL/Team Curse merger, TL is probably the biggest and reputable independent esports organization now, right? I expect more and more sponsorships to appear.

It's gotta be neck and neck with TSM and EG, I think. TSM is insanely popular.

Seems weird to boast domain by: namecheap when a simple whois check can see the domain isn't actually registered through namecheap ... ?

Still great to see TL get more pickups. Hope both parties involved enjoy the partnership.

edit: I stand corrected, namecheap uses enom's infrastructure as per the AmA, hence the whois registrar.

Hmm, I'm really considering moving my domains over to namecheap as of recently. After reading the AmA and seeing them sponsor esports, I might just do it. They're a little on the pricey side when it comes to hosting though. But great pickup!

Our domains are definitely through Namecheap. Unfortunately a whois won't reveal that, since Namecheap register via ENOM, so our domains will show as being registered there in whois. I wouldn't allow such a thing to be added to our site if it wasn't true.

Happy to see this. I've used Namecheap for a couple years now for both domain registration and hosting. Never had an issue.

I just switched most of my domains from godaddy to Namecheap in december, and its been a great decision so far. Very good company. Very excited to see them sponsor Liquid, reinforces my choice even more!

This is awesome. Nice to see more sponsors for Liquid, and maybe what's even better is that an organization is taking a stance on a political issue too.

Just one minor criticism, "principle" is misspelled as "priciple" in Nazgul's comments.

I would totally switch my domain over to Namecheap if I wasn't already using them. I decided to use them specifically because I remembered others had switched to them because of their stance on SOPA. First, Anti-SOPA and now Pro-eSports. I know I made the right choice.

Good news, good sponsor. Glad to see you join the Teamliquid train Namecheap.

Hope Team Secret becomes a reality. Perfect players in terms of what Teamliquid is looking for in terms of personality, manner, etc. Initially I would have said it's absolutely impossible, but maybe it can become a reality.

Well, yes, but depending how far into the deepend you want to start, going with a webhosting service that sets like Wordpress up for you is the smartest option. [edit like namecheap for example]
There's also alternatives like going with something like squarespace where you even more simply can wysiwyg your layout the way you want it. Without having to do any real backend stuff. And there's some

R1CH approved sponsorship. Must be the most legit sponsor in tech world. Happy to see Liquid get all the new sponsors!

Since there hasn't been any news about the TL+ raffle, and I'm not sure if it's even being read by the admins... I'm going to ask here as I'm assuming several staff are going to look at the response from the community about the sponsorship.

The raffle hasn't been done in November or December yet, even though it's the end of January. Wondering what's going on with that. People with TL+ quite upset.

edit: Salle, I think you missed a "don't" in your message.

Looking at the services offered by Namecheap (not sure if I want to ditch joker.com yet, but their service and r1ch's endorsement are pretty compelling) there is a "sitebuilder" app.

Also, it seems like they automate a good portion of some of the easier site construction tools and options out there. At least on the shared hosting side. You could go full VPS and then set up the whole shebang yourself. (Not recommended.)
Yes, I email sponsors... to thank them. Don't post drunk, kids. My king, what has become of you?

2015 year of Liquid ? Liquid rising? EG falling ?

Considering EG just got bought by Amazon or w/e I don't think they'll fall before anyone.

Amazon's CEO is megalomaniac and Amazon hasn't made a single cent of profit so far. Keep your fingers crossed ;P

@topic: Nice stuff! Namecheap is a huge company, which is doing well on the market. I have bought all my domains from them so far. Certainly something to be proud of.

Grats, it looks like the merger with Curse meant that TLPro reached a critical mass that made it much easier to seal sponsorship deals.
