I have a problem with this stuff

Because it's so low in toxicity and feels so good, it's easily to get hooked and keep telling yourself that ok this is a lot less harmful than alcohol, so you keep abusing it and become hugely mentally dependent on it, perhaps even a bit physically addicted due to how potent weed has become nowadays.

It's like saying it's much easier to overeat chocolate than to overdose on heroin. Sure the latter is a lot worse, but because you can overeat chocolate everyday and not die for at least a decade or two, I feel both are pretty terrible for you in the end

Engrish, I would just stop for a month or so. Easier said than done but do what you have to do. On the upside you will get BAKED next time you blaze.

I wish I could, school and work force me to keep inhaling the stuff. I get pretty sick after stopping abruptly, definitely going through mild to moderate withdraw. I could tank through most symptoms, but the nausea is insane and I end up throwing up pretty much all morning

Maybe some Kratom would help, I'm just substituting one drug for another but oh well.

Do you think it would be possible for you to cut back on your intake? From there you could either decide to wean yourself or stay at that level. Of course you wont get as high but with time your tolerance will go down.

so my dealer's dealer got busted (a few years back). there was nothing I could do about it at the time, but needless to say none of us have been able to bring ourselves to smoke weed for the past few years out of regret.

since this topic came up again recently in an ethics debate i was wondering if you thought the legal status of marijuana could be contested as a natural right a la locke.

t came to light during the debate that this our dealer got busted probably because he didn't carry firearms, smoke crack, or deal heroin (all of which are apparently major risk factors in evaluation).

personally i think this is really hypocritical of the government, since marijuana dealers are a major benefit to society and there are a lot of risk and stress related factors on the job.

if you would rather kill yourself than spend 15-20 years in prison (and i assume most people would)... then can you trade on self-defense and kill another person? i guess most dealers would be averse to this but as a thought experiment it seems like the police are in the wrong (violating natural rights of dealers). so if you were in a position to choose between taking the life of a criminal or a non-criminal you'd opt to take the life of the police because in this case they've violated your natural rights.

on the other hand i think we tend to side with the police when questions of crack and heroin are brought up. but police officers can't make arrests against dealers who sell these drugs without significant danger. so the vicious cycle seems to be that people want to buy and smoke weed but don't want to go to prison. therefore they sell crack and buy guns to make it too hazardous to arrest them.

who is in the wrong? the police for endangering straight marijuana dealers or marijuana dealers turned crack dealers and gunsmiths for endangering the police in retrospect? is there any foreseeable solution to this cycle?

so i've made some progress on this case in the last few days. i'm honestly not making light of the situation although i didn't know the guy who was arrested as well as i might have. ultimately we came to suspect that because my friend kevin gracefully committed suicide to wake us all up, that the death was traced back to us smoking green from the dealer who was arrested.

there were a lot of other questionable activities at the time including abusing vyvanse and weed while playing starcraft (me) and "soul-swapping" or some weird japanese technique where you just isolate someone else's consciousness and press the "lose button" over and over, a lot like pressing "null" over and over in an attempt to simulate that person's failures. for more information on this ancient japanese technique think of a western swordsman like king beowulf whose shield man is his left hand so-to-speak because the shield man's left hand holds the shield that defenses the king while the king defends the man on his left.

ultimately it's pretty illegal to cheat the system in such and such a way even though arguably this kind of self-sacrifice is exactly the kind of spiritual journey emphasized by mystical traditions in many cultures with histories of marijuana use. of course, the same thing could be said of my friend who i spoke of as committing a truly enlightened and mysterious suicide which all of us blamed ourselves for because we didn't understand his motivations or the legacy he hoped to convey to us via an unprecedented enlightened act.

so in short, our dealer's dealer and my dealer's dealer's dealer got blamed for our project which we probably didn't fully understand at the time because it was being advised by elders who were more versed and specialized in the various techniques we were using. but the nature of marijuana and its close connection to philosophies of mind-over-matter came home to roost pretty severely for our dealer who in short perhaps elected to become part of a greater process without consciously or wittingly having been aware of the goal or aim and what it would actually entail for the man himself.

in some ways i think joe's arrest was the epitome of what it means to be a christian marijuana dealer living in the south. of course none of us want to take full responsibility or necessarily even any responsibility at all for what happened with the enlightenment incident, but inevitably because of our proximity to an enlightenment incident we were dragged into a variety of uncomfortable and arguably persisting states of enlightenment. personally, having experienced time in a psych ward here in the south i have first hand experience of what it is to be truly damned. tackled by guards, misunderstood by other patients and staff, held in a white-walled environment where even the employees are exposed daily to extreme traumas, forced injections and the painful experience of the most "effective" drugs administered as the faculty's only appeal to fleeting objectivity, the will stripped away and the mind turned to a blank slate in which time crawls at an excruciating pace.

although i spent only about 70 days in this tragic and insipid state, i have also experienced drunk tanks and so forth and can reasonably approximate the suffering of an inmate in a federal prison. in short i think that no one who underwent the enlightenment experience i am referring to escaped and recovered to a state of health. but it seems possibly the most tragic of all that someone who was in many ways disconnected and who was in some sense "merely a store clerk" should find himself sentenced to a lengthy prison sentence. it's truly a testament to the sad state of the world that the powers that be operate in such a way that my dealer's dealer's dealer would find himself imprisoned because of a crime he did not commit (and that no one committed).

there are some certainly some metaphysical footnotes that we need to pay a lot of attention to with respect to the marijuana market. the ideal condition is for marijuana to be legal and so in some sense to be able to regulate itself rather than be subject to constraints and barriers that facilitate cartel-like behavior, monopolistic behavior, and behavior of a nature that is almost universally held by economists to be very detrimental to society. i think that the very nature of the human mind and the ability to successfully bring to life or animate causal chains and demonstrate that one cause in particular is the efficient cause which sets certain acts into motion is in fact a virtue of marijuana. it is obviously an essential property of liberty and destiny that humans be able to tell their own stories. but so long as the ability to tell one's own story is inextricably interwoven with social inefficiencies and economic inefficiencies as represented perhaps chiefly by the illegality of marijuana as a psychotropic substance, humans will be "trapped like ants under a rock". we are forced into a state of subjugation and slavery to laws which violate our nature rights to liberty, life, and the pursuit of happiness and consequently the potential of marijuana turns to evil and unskillful ends.

hopefully the arrest of an innocent marijuana dealer like joe and his subsequent imprisonment can be received by the world as what in my opinion is essentially a christ-like act. in some sense it is quite literally marijuana that imprisoned joe, as absurd and almost comical as that sounds in spite of the gravity of the situation. but i believe it was joe's commitment to the good, and to the well-being and happiness of others, a skillful and highly respectable state that found him at odds not only with the written legislation as we understand it but in a larger sense at odds with what has been called the corrupt nature of man. by this i mean that there are various degrees of responsibility and that truly it is more responsible to take responsibility for the state of the world even outside of one's direct control. often this means being subjected to suffering which is unwarranted by one's own merits and deeds and instead to see oneself as fortunate to have the privilege of existing in a skillful state to which many aspire and yet fail to attain.

it is for this reason that i refer to joe's arrest as a christ-like act although it is pretty certain that joe would not wish to be arrested and that having been arrested joe would many times over regret the circumstances leading to his arrest. but subsequent circumstances notwithstanding, it is truly noble to resist the temptations represented by entropy, confusion and other unskillful states induced by suffering, ego and pride. and if it were not for marijuana dealers and marijuana-smokers like joe and my friends, we would not be able to overcome the deplorable state of the world, but would instead be confined to perpetual hell. of course there are many christ-like acts in the world, and regrettably (though perhaps not in vain) many of them are overlooked and not appreciated for the grace they represent. perhaps it is uniquely poignant to joe's situation that marijuana so often perceived as an evil because of the potential for its misuse was intimately connected to what in many respects was a heroic sacrifice and what could be considered an exemplary contribution to society.

No Longer Human

As biologists would probably tell you if they could talk: they would say, there are three crucial factors in the human life: When will you get married, when will you have offspring, and when will you die?

Today humans don't live long enough to get married or have offspring. If you're wondering what this means, you'll want to research philosophy of identity (Locke, Parfit, Williams, Wiggins, Lewis). What in my opinion as a lowly undergraduate student of philosophy was discovered by these philosophers of identity is that the persistence of identity is a tricky subject.

So what I mean when I say that humans don't live long enough to get married or have offspring is that today, because of what I'll call information technology, we experience many more life times in the blink of an eye than did our ancestors in the span of fifty to a hundred years. The persistence condition for identity in most people living in the first world today probably sustains a single identity for a week, maybe a month. If you're unlucky enough to have been addicted to certain brain altering chemicals the persistence condition for your identity might be as short as a day or even an hour (lol, if you are on salvia divinorum).

The upshot of this frustrated blog post is that as a young man looking for a mate, I don't want to mate with a bunch of Zerg. Unfortunately when the persistence condition for the personal identity, and the persistence condition for the "lover" identity are closely connected... And the personal identity is only sustained for a very short time, actually matching oneself up with another person (a la chivalry) is virtually impossible.

The supposition is that among people-groups individual identities were sufficiently established and persisted for long enough that suitable matches could be made.

+ Show Spoiler +
Today things are somewhat different, and of course part of this is owing to electronics and drugs. The ugly fact is that while we have little to no idea why virginity was prized historically, many guys consider a girl completely gone the moment she takes a hit of ecstasy. In short the girl's genes join the writhing mass, and unless you believe in Deepak Chopra and "Super Genes", nature sees her as completely wasted (not fecund or dead to unique reproductivity)

So the point I am hoping to make about Zerg is that to a greater or lesser extent individual identity has collapsed into memetic identity, and not in what is obviously a complex, strategic way, but instead in a Zerg way where the rule is quantity over quality and the majority of unique intelligence is generated not systematically but instead chaotically. The persistence condition for unique identity is almost completely absent in many cases, and while this has proven to be quasi-ideal for some individuals, it has yet to match up successfully with the reproduction cycle of humans.

It is arguably a necessity, or at best a very strong contingent fact that for a human to create an ideal offspring a very strong, "very unique" pair-bond was to be established. What this really was/is is a persistent identity that exists across time, shedding skin and gaining mass so that at the time of reproduction, a considerably unique, not to mention highly evolved offspring would be the result.

TL:DR humans have "written soulmates out of existence" via information technology because the evolved emphasis on persistent identity has disintegrated. in short the not-so-tenuous bonds linking individual identity for a human through marriage unto reproduction and finally physical death did not withstand the 20th century information technology. instead, persistence of human identity was written off as a casualty of rapid information and so the necessary materiel for families, marriages, and offspring no longer emerges. obviously this is not sustainable.

(anyway i don't think this qualifies as rambling and so i don't think chill should ban me).

tantrum post about marijuana use: if marijuana -aeons are the government of the middle east and asia, and psilocybin and ayahuasca are the government of south america and africa (pyramids)...

and lsd gives us all of these drugs wrapped up in one...

does that make "the first world" guilty of governing these countries? the united states, europe, and australia definitely consume like 1,000x the quantity of mind influence consumed by these other countries, which seems to indicate that these countries are our puppets. since these countries have long histories of marijuana-use it seems they will be unable to escape our influence, and the arguably undue influence granted by potent mixtures like hash and LSD.

given what we know about backwards causality, "determinism" (that things will happen one way), information processing technology, and so on...

is there any way to absolve ourselves of the guilt of governing countries less developed than our own? is there any argument that even approaches the goal of explaining away mind-theoretic reality to the extent that we can feel confident that we are not depriving billions of people basic human rights to liberty, independent thought, freedom of speech, etc.

case in point: china, india, south korea, japan, and other east asian countries are surely generating hundreds of times the intellectual capital in skilled labor hours of "rival" countries like the united states, canada, australia, new zealand, and european nations. but it is a well known fact that institutions like harvard, oxford, MIT, and yale are consulted by CIA analysts and intelligence analysts in europe to determine a safe rate of scientific advance.

given related rates of academic learning, there is no way to suppose that the united states and europe are actually generating more capital in these fields than easterners. yet we argue from something like a "might makes right" perspective that it is simply "too risky" to allow countries like china, russia, north korea, etc. to surpass us technologically, militarily, and so on.

but to what extent is this a self-fulfilling prophesy? yes, the ostensible governments of those countries, china, russia, north korea, countries in the middle east, and so on are apparently quite oppressive, abusive, and untrustworthy. but given the reality of a mind-theoretic world, it is almost undeniable that we first-worlders play at least a non-negligible role in creating local governments that reflect our global policies.

to what extent are we shaping the destinies of political leaders in other places? and thereby are we shaping the destinies of people groups who are subject to that leadership?

unfortunately as long as marijuana is illegal, i think marijuana will be subject to a similar vicious cycle. from the standpoint of someone on LSD, psilocybin, ayahuasca, etc. or from the standpoint of someone smoking marijuana, the mind-theoretic or mind-centric nature of reality is undeniable. but so long as these drugs, and especially marijuana are illegal, scientific research and philosophical inquiry is nigh impossible. thus a level of ignorance is entailed by the illegal status of marijuana, and just how extensive is this existing ignorance seems to be the greatest determining factor in the misuse of marijuana. thus it often seems to me that only when marijuana is legal, and true, justified beliefs are formed about how marijuana works and the history of its development -- only then can we actually "justify", meaning understand, the use of marijuana. this, anyway, seems to be the foundation for the vicious cycle of ignorance that prevents us from really talking about a deep nature of reality and the insights marijuana and other psycho-active or psychotropic substances can provide.
