Any-who, I have been smoking for about two years strong now, and i've started a new routine, one month on, two weeks off because I've found myself sort of null to the effects of some good danks. All was going good until about half way through week 2, and I noticed that I was starting to get a bunch of red spots on my under-arms. Pretty faint, nothing too noticeable unless you really focus and look hard. So I started smoking again when I saw that shit. They then proceeded to go away.
The fuck? That's pretty much my general response. I've never heard of any sort of THC chemical dependence..or anything like that. So instead of researching, I came here to ask if anyone else has had this shit happen to them and incase the day comes where I do need/want to stop, should i expect these side-effects to stay long term?
It is a common myth that you cannot become dependent on weed. The weed we smoke now is many times more potent than that bullshit hippies were smoking in the 60s and 70s. I have never heard of anyone developing red spots though. That probably has nothing to do with weed. Normally when I take a break to reset my tolerance, I experience insomnia, anxiety, lethargy, and a general feeling that something is not quite right. The insomnia is the worst part. Makes me wonder why I bother to smoke.....but then after the break I get high and I'm like "why the fuck did I take a break?.....oh yeah...because I was smoking an 8th every 2 or 3 days".

The dependancy is still not as heavy as from other drugs even many legal ones. I've been a heavy smoker for 15 years and my need4weed and the side effects you described just disappear after not smoking 2-3 days. Knowing that it will go away also helps. Of course it always depends from person to person. Quitting cigarettes when smoking a pack a day and alcohol when drinking daily is way harder. At least that's my experience.
edit: I still won't recommend smoking huge amounts of weed over a decade to anyone! It definately leaves its marks.

You are right, everyone is different. For me those symptoms last for like 2/3 weeks. I just started taking a break 3 days ago, and I can't fall asleep for shit....and I really like my sleep. Quick Question:
What's up with dreaming after you smoked?
Several people told me that you actually don't dream in your sleep when you fall asleep after smoking. Can't tell if that's true though, I have the feeling I'm still dreaming most of the time (though I don't remember my dreams)
Anyone who stopped smoking noticed a difference on that?

G. Insomnia
THC does not differ from conventional hypnotics in reducing rapid eye movement (REM) sleep (136). THC in doses ranging from 61 to 258 *g/kg produces in normal subjects increments in stage 4 sleep and decrements in REM sleep, but without the characteristic REM rebound which follows chronic treatment with hypnotics. When THC was administered p.o. as a solution in doses of 10, 20, and 30 mg, our subjects fell asleep faster after having mood alterations consistent with a "high." Some degree of "hangover" the day following was noted from larger doses (42). Another sleep laboratory study showed that a dose of 20 mg of THC given p.o. decreased REM sleep. After four to six nights of use, abrupt discontinuation of THC produced mild insomnia but not marked REM rebound (52). REM rebound may not be apparent after low doses of THC. However, very high doses (70 to 210 mg) reduced REM sleep during treatment and were followed by marked REM rebound after withdrawal (48).
The sleep produced by THC does not seem to differ much from that of most currently used hypnotics. Side effects before sleep induction as well as hangover effects make the drug less acceptable than currently popular benzodiazepines. It seems unlikely that THC will supplant existing hypnotics in treatment of insomnia.

and i think you need REM to dream.

Ye it does for many people... When i was your age (under 20), i wasn't taking shit and advice from anyone. All those parents and other people don't know shit! I can just still advise you not to go my way. I always was surrounded by older friends who also smoked heavily and still got their shit together, which left me with the impression it should be no problem for me aswell. Turned out i was wrong. Being a total underachiever with limited options in your 30's sucks hard. Of course i don't only blame the weed, but that would be a long story and too personal for an online gaming forum.
I'm still in favor of legalising it and there's nothing wrong with smoking some weed from time to time. Just don't do it alone at home all the time.

Actually one of the main reasons for me smoking was and sometimes still is, that i don't dream. For me there's dreams which fuck me up harder than any drug could (suppressed memories are a bitch). It gets to the point of being afraid to sleep and dream. Of course you still dream, like you said. You just don't remember it, at least that's what i think.
When i make a longer pause dreaming usually returns slowly. Fortunately my dreams aren't as tough to deal with any more. Understanding the reason and accepting it was healthier than smoking it away.

No worries, there's always hope and life is just too cool sometimes. Take care, i wish you the best!
On another note: An amazing effect from quitting was, it multiplied my SC2 skills. Went straight from silver to platinum. No more "What the fuck happened to all my probes!?" And actually having some macro is nice! No more 1500 overmins at 8 minutes. Also my aggressiveness on the Basketball court returned and i can finally play PG again without being a liability to my team.
I'd still like to have some nice weed now.

Your short term memory isn't as good when your smoking so when you quit you start to have super vivid dreams. THC dependecy is pretty new in the addiction field, its only been studied for a short period of time. I personally have had a lot of difficulty it with it (http://www.marijuana-anonymous.org/index.shtml). The problem with Marijauna as a treatment for insomnia is that its actually a Stimulant as well as Depressant, so it can make sleeping more difficult or easier.
Quitting Weed maybe easier than Alcohol or Cigarettes for most people, but most people underestimate how difficult quitting those things can be. Cigarettes are scientifically proven to be more addictive than Herion or Cocaine. Alcohol withdrawal can kill you. Just because they are legal does not mean they aren't extremely bad for you if used frequently.
Anyways... Happy responsibly toking >: D. I love weed I just cannot smoke it anymore.

holy fuck got so high with my friend and girlfriend yesterday. I hadn't smoked in like a month and a half, and so we bought a gram and split it three ways and smoked ALL of it. Holy shit. I remember it like a dream. I don't think I'd ever smoked a strain like that. It was different, like I had MAJOR synesthesia, especially when I closed my eyes. We watched some Fritz the Cat, HOLY FUCK if you have not seen that shit go and watch it right now. Actually smoke a bowl, THEN go watch it. It's incredible. + Show Spoiler +http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuTCN-o6o2A NSFW, although I don't know who the fuck would go on the high thread at work ahahahaha
And then fucking shit I went upstairs with my girlfriend who was horny as ALL HELL and we started making out and shit on the third floor, but I couldn't focus at all and couldn't get hard at all. WHAT THE FUCK GODDAMNIT SHIT. I mean, it was still pretty great, but my mind was like racing and I was seeing all these things in my head (there's the synesthesia again), and Sail by AWOL Nation was playing SUPER loud in my head as well. But despite not being hard I still like dry fucked with her, and she seemed to go wild because she was so relaxed (which she usually isn't). + Show Spoiler +http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gH2efAcmBQM Holy shit the time of that video is 4:20, how appropriate! (fuck that took me a long time to spell)
OH yeah and we bought a pizza before we got high, but I wasn't hungry at that time but of course after smoking I got so hungry and we fucking destroyed that shit EZ. Then we bought some more shit like another pizza, a philly cheesesteak (SO GOOD), and a hamburger. Oh man. I'm not gonna be hungry for a week. I can feel it NOW, of course hahaha.
Oh yeah and my friend who is visiting from Jordan CLAIMED that he smoked a ton in Jordan (I lived there too and lemme say it's hard as fuck to find there) and that he could "hold it really well." I'm guessing that he was smoking some shitty strain (HOLY FUCK DAT ALLITERATION), because he was crazy surprised as to how high he was. Maybe it's 'cause he only smoked joints, and now we used a pipe. I way fucking prefer pipes. Yesterday I got MASSIVE hit after MASSIVE hit and it was insane. Does anyone know how to do that double hit shit? Fuckin' christ that's cool. I did that thing where you can just open your mouth and watch the smoke trail out.
Has anyone noticed how goddamn beautiful smoke is? Holy shit I love smoke. I love that girl too. Man is she something. Especially high. I need to get high with her alone sometime. Things will get so wild, and it'll be so much greater. It's weird I think my friend was like cock-blocking me, what the fuck. I'd be like going upstairs with her alone, and he'd be like, "Where're ya goin'? and I'm thinking, "It's not hard to fucking figure out I'm going upstairs with her so we can get as close to fucking each other without a condom as is possible in this day and age," but out loud I got all weird for some reason even though I usually have low inhibitions and I go, "You know like... we just wanna go be like alone or whatever, 'cause uh.. you know like I'm just gonna upstairs with her." And then he would FUCKING COME WITH US. What is this shit? Hey everyone, if your friend and his girlfriend are going to another room, don't fucking come with them. Yeah? I mean yeah I eventually shook him, but I mean goddamnit just leave us be. One of my other friends does that shit with his girlfriend while high all the time, and I just take the opportunity to like melt into the ground like I usually can't when people are around. Fuckin' A, it's simple etiquette.
*yawn*
I think I still have a little in my system. FUCK DA SYSTEM. Nah just kidding. I'm really tired. And a little high.
Oh shit! I forgot. We were doing this at my friend's house (the one who fucks his girlfriend while I'm around) which is empty right now because he is in Hawaii with his mom. So we were just totally chilling out, not having to worry about parents or anything, or time. Because that's like how I think about smoking weed. You have to have three things, Time, Weed, and Desire. Wait a sec I'll make a graph in Photoshop
Okay did it holy fuck was that confusing:
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/SOGhi.png?1)
So anyway, we had all of those, and it was really relaxing. So great not having to worry,
OH YEAH, what I wanted to say was that we started to walk back to my house (which is very near her house), and my friend was on my right and my arm was around my girl, and then oh man she took my hand in hers and pushed it down to her ass, and like starting prompting me to feel her up. OH MY GOD. THEN I got so fucking hard. Walking around at like 10:20 PM, feeling my girlfriend's FINE FINE ass while also trying to hold conversation with my friend who had no idea what was going on. OH shit. When he leaves in August, I think that her and I are going to so goddamn wild. I can't wait.
. .
Has anyone ever noticed how beautiful the title screen of 2001: A Space Odyssey is? Jesus christ check dis shit out yo: + Show Spoiler +
LOOK AT THAT! Perfection! I think it's like the most visually appealing shot in all of film history. + Show Spoiler +
Look at dat phi! So sick.
I think that phi is the most interesting shit in the world. Goddamn. You guys should look it up. I'm tired. Talk to you later? Why am I saying this. It's a fucking phone call. I mean it's not. It's not a phone call. I made a typo. But I was too lazy to correct. Plus I like typing. OBVIOUSLY HAHA
EDIT: Is my first image working?

Dont go to sleep right after a joint, then you wont have that much trouble falling asleep without one. If you know you wont be able to sleep without smoking one, smoke and go to sleep 30 min later, next day smoke one and go to sleep 45 min later etc till you can fall asleept without, try that worked for me.
Now i just made it a habit to never go sleep till at least 2 hours past since my last joint, not having trouble sleeping without ever since i do that.

Anyone who stopped smoking noticed a difference on that? When I smoke I do not remember any dreams, those times I dont smoke I have pretty vivid dreams. Yeah I'll echo these sentiments, one of the reasons I continue to smoke is due to my wishing to avoid dreaming for the most part, as my dreams are usually too stressful and negative to be worthwhile. I used to keep a dream journal when I lived with my shaman friend, here are some excerpts of my dreams while on a T-break.
-I found myself deep in the library catacombs from the first Ghost Busters. The damp, cold air and the smell of molding paper hung around like the old quilt my grandmother died in, so I felt it best to seek an exit as fast as possible. The seemingly endless narrow shelves of books began to give way after a minute or two of walking, and suddenly my surroundings had changed dramatically. I was falling. The point at which my stay in the old library had turned into a free fall passed in a blur of incomprehensibility, as the vastness of the morning sky opened up around me. Curiously, I could hear not a whisper of sound, and the rapid, silent passing of clouds was incredibly unnerving. A woman abruptly appeared, falling along with me, only for everything to violently come to a halting stop. The odd woman's features began to "appear" before me, as her long brown hair seemed to grow towards the ground as we stood there suspended God only knows how many miles up in the air. A swift and sudden pain hit my chest like a hurled spear, and before I could even register, my heart beat before me in the hands of the woman who had just murdered me. I looked deep into her piercing gray eyes in search of some sort of answer, only for her to quietly murmur "A man of proper disposition only needs that which is provided, and refuses that which he is denied." Then I woke up.
-I was at a barnes and noble bookstore type place with a 10/10 brunette chick, and we were having a great time talking about books, philosophy, stuff like that. Day turned to night in the dream, and as we left the store, the brunette pulls out a gun and shoots me in the temple. The entire left side of my head was gone, but my vision of the dream remained through my dead eyes as my body slumped to the ground, and I could easily tell that she was eating my intestines with a huge knife, in front of the bookstore. The last thing I remember before waking was her, with my blood all over her face, looking me in the eyes and saying, "Tomorrow is another day."
While those kinds of experiences are fun every now and then, my sleep feels way more restful when I'm not dreaming.
