Apparently in the video where the police officer was executed, one of the attackers was speaking Russian?

Like I said before it could be radical hate group members looking to set off some war. With people talking about sending troops to some random place already, before we even have an identity, let alone an affiliation, it seems like it is much closer to working than I would of presumed.

I just wonder what if on the off chance it did turn out to be a group of white christian Frenchmen looking to get news outlets to blame Muslims what people will have to say?

Fuck these murderers, and I hope people realize that blindly xenophobic reactions are against everything Charlie Hebdo stands for.
I hope they won't kill anybody else while they are being tracked, but what a depressing day

Stop here with that, please. See this if you want to derail the thread further.
It's not Quran or Bible or Thora that choose to kill, it's people. It's always people.

Yes, books don't shoot people. But let's elaborate on that.

If you managed to hire a hit man to take a life, would you say "It's not I that choose to kill, it's the hit man."?

If instead you managed to convince someone to take a life, would you say "It's not I that chose to kill, it's someone else."?

Then, if a book managed to convince another person to take a life, why say "It isn't books that choose to kill. It's people."

People could do something to a book that can be misinterpreted to take a life.
People chose not to - The book does not allow people to do something about it.
People could not something to a book that can be misinterpreted to take a life.
It isn't books that choose to kill. It's people. Always people.

Because a person has an active influence on another person, while a book is an object and has a passive influence? Your reasoning honestly seems strange to me Oo

In 2012 in an interview in "Le monde" Charb said :

I don't have the impression of slitting the throat of someone with a pencil. I'm not making lives at risk. When activist needs a pretext to justify their violence, they always find it. And i have no childrne, no wife, no car, no loans. Maybe i'm gonna sound dumb with what i'm going to say but : "I prefer dying stood up than living crawling".

Sorry for mistakes translation. Charb is one of the drawer that got killed today.

The final line is better translated as "I'd rather die standing than live on my knees".

Yep, we're at war, a strange one, but this is just part of it.

The White House press statement offering support/condolences to the victims seemed to imply a link to ISIL. Not sure if it's a confirmed link or if it's just a premature press statement.

It's the hitman that kills, yes. However it's you who gives the order. The hitman basically becomes the tool for the killing. Hitman is the killer, you are the murderer/conspirer.

So Hitman = gun in that analogy.

ISIS´ heartland isn´t the biggest problem with local militias, the coalition air strikes etc
The far more important frontline is the propaganda war by ISIS and to prevent radicalisation i.e. diminishing the influence which their propaganda exerts on young guys without perspective around the globe

on topic: horrific attack, condolences to all those affected

Considering how much it costs to have a standing army fighting terrorists in a foreign country, I'm pretty sure most French people would prefer France not having a standing army there.

About ten of our Rafale jets are bombing ISIS in Iraq, and the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle was rumoured to leave for the Gulf next week. No ground forces in Iraq, but only the American have any.
