Hello fellow chess players. I play very casually, mostly against the A.I from my chess app. If any of you could link me some basic openers it would be grearly appreciated

The app I use is called Chess Free for android and right now I play against the level 4 difficulty (max level 14)

I have a similar request but with one addition. In the list of possible move variations I would like to see some information about how widespread the particular move is. Both expert opinion (but a detailed one, not just "moves are listed in the order of popularity") or some statistical data will do.

There is a nice little trick in this position (from one of my online blitz games):

Black to move, what is the best move?

1. ... Rxf3 2. Rxg4+

2. Qxf3 loses because of
2. ... Bg5+! 3. hxg5
White breaks the pin itself and Black can take the Queen
3. ... gxf3

2. ... Bg5! 3. Qd2! Black's bishop can't move.
3. ... Rxf2 All sorts of stuff is pinned now:

4. Rxg5+ Qxg5!
Instead of taking with the knight, Black keeps the pin intact.
5. hxg5 Rxd2
6. Rxd2 Kg7
Black keeps the extra piece and is safe.

New here in this thread, I am trying to find a wooden chess set. I found many of them on amazon but none of them has like 100+ reviews. I was wondering if there was a standard set which everyone gets.

Standard sets used in most tournaments are generally plastic. Just buy whatever wooden one looks good to you.

It's pretty much a draw. You probably want to play stuff like Nhf3, Kf2, Rg1, Qf1, Bd1-e2, etc.

I think White is better - he has 2 Knights in totally closed position. I initially though about Ra1-a2 and Rf1-a1 with a3-a4 to follow, but I'm not really sure whether that accomplishes anything.

The other idea might be to play Nh4-f3, Kg1-f2-e3, Qe2-g2, Rf1-h1, Ra1-g1 and g3-g4. It's a double-edged try because Black gets play on f-file, but if you want to get some play in this drawn-out position, you gotta take risks.

The knight seems good on h4 as bait for Bxh4, with black losing his good bishop and g-file compensation for white.

If the a,b-pawns are dissolved, wouldn't the knights still be better than the bishops though? (After moves like a4 etc)

yeah but the double pawns might be a problem if he can go h5 and later g6 and defend it well you have no way to attack
id probaby go nf3 get my king out and go for a kingside attack where you have more space
e6 is a potential vulnerability and meanwhile black would have a very hard time pressuring c3 or the queenside in genearl

I think black is fine if not even a little better. Two knights in a closed position sound fine in principle, but here they're not doing much. On the other hand black could try to stack on the a - file and open up the game there and getting the knight into the action with a5-b3.
