The chess.com speed chess championship has ended, and yet again, Magnus Carlsen won. He even played Hans Niemann this time and I suppose beating him must have been a relief.
But more importantly, the drama regarding Hans and chess.com got even more attention after a 45 minute “interview” of Hans Niemann by Gothamchess. Good drama stuff. Even though I’m Norwegian and is rooting for Magnus, I really want this dude to go far. He reminds me so much of Artosis actually. And not in a good way xD His “me against the world” attitude is fun to watch.
Here is a link for those who want to watch the interview. He starts off by “offering” the dude doing the interview a guaranteed rank of GM if he pays him 100.000 USD. Maybe he reminds me of CombatEx as well tbh rofl. Anyway, chess is awesome and we need more people like Hans to make this even more entertaining.
1. No we don't want crybabies give a stupid image of chess 2. He is immature and give no value in 45 minutes 3. He is not the next Fisher, but Chess will make you crazy. And Fisher was not this delusional at his age. 4. Saying he will be the best because all he needs to do is for older players to die of old age is kind of pointless, I don't see him keeping up with the tsunami of young Indian players. No drama, just silent but deadly chess
He was treated like shit though, there really wasn’t any proof of him cheating against Magnus. And it was a dick move by Magnus to leverage a merger to get him banned from chess.com because his ego was hurt.
Hans is an asshole, but he is young and very good at chess. He is motivated through anger, and if he keeps his mindset, I think he well be world champion at some point.
Plenty of other top players have their own demons. People may've already forgotten Carlsen's very combative demeanor when he was younger. Niemann's character aside, if he maintains his work ethic he could eventually join the top ten.

Yes he got bullied, which sucks. He was not bullied by Levi though, so being a dick to him makes him looks like a child. In a way, I tend to forget he is still super young, so acting like a child shouldn't be a critique. Also It comes out condescending when Levi tries to explain Hans how to behave if he wishes to be invited in the future and get respected.

Fully agreed.
It’s also easy to forget he is a young man..I’m 38, and he looks older than me tbh…
I just read on twitter that Magnus Carlsen joined Teamliquid .
Year is 2025 and that is proly the more random thing i have seen. I mean i remember watching movies in 1999-2000 about flying cars in 2020 etc. But Magnus joining TL wasnt ever close to my guess.
Really dope tho. Teamliquid really has come a long way.

So cool. I just started to get into chess recently, really appreciate the strategy, I think it helps with SC understanding too. And I hope this makes TL a hub for chess too!
Just joined this forum. I actually joined because of a different topic, then I found this. It's amazing how old this thread is and it keeps on going.
I didn't read the whole thread but I've seen the post that started this. Since it's been a long time, I'd also like to add some of my favorite chess sources.
I think I started following Agadmator in... 2017 I want so say, when he was just starting out. His upload consistency is legendary as well as his humor and catch phrases. Captures captures captures captures.
I think I watched all of his Tal analyses (chess wizardry - queen sacrifices) and also watched quite a bit of Morphy. Made me appreciate chess on a much deeper level without being a (good) player myself or even thinking about the game all that much. I also enjoy his bot games coverage. Stockfish vs OpenAI (Leela iirc) is always great.
I quickly stopped watching Agadmator, even if I liked his person, but his chess analyze level is very low which makes him rely almost exclusively on engines. The best videos are made by grand masters that go through games with engine and double check after the analyzing that they didn't miss something. This avoid bias due to inhuman computer lines.
I loved to watch fabiano caruana comment live games... You can clearly see things very differently while engine monkeys are like "HOW COULD DING LIREN MISS THISSSSS".
Personnal brag, yesterday I beat Firouzja in the french league... Sadly it was the Second Division, and it was Mohammadreza, the big brother, he is strong but plays very little. It was a bit uncanny to play someone who looked like Alireza :D
