Considering his 6 wins got him from 2801 to 2830, he will not get the record. However, at an ELO of 2830, winning a game against a 2790 ELO player, which I guess is roughly the average of the tournament, you will receive an ELO of +4.4. So if he wins everything, he could end at 2848~. Meanwhile, I believe Carlsen's ELO is currently 2862.4, as I saw it posted in chat when watching the tournament today. A 2860 player losing vs a 2790 ELO player loses -6, or -1 if he ties. So technically 3 losses and a tie would bring him down to 2843~, and below Caruana. TLDR: Mathematically possible, realistically speaking a 0.05-0.1% chance. | ||

So Caruana is at least guaranteed 2nd, right? Or is Caruana's tie break score good enough already for him to secure 1st even if both Carlsen and Caruana finishes with 7 points? | ||
