So I don't think it makes sense to check 2600+ player's technique, especially with so much time on the clock that he can literally figure out the technique over-the-board, even if he didn't knew it beforehand. Titled players do mess up QvR sometimes, so in the context of a rapid tournament it's definitely worth playing out. It's very very easy to make a move that adds several moves to conversion, and even if you need quite a few of those, it's worth a try imo. 20 moves to fork a rook is a lot of accurate moves.

That position... Maybe he saw the fork, but though that Nc5 Rxd6 Nxa4 bails him out to drawable endgame, because he can put Knight on c3, push e3-e4 and exchange last Black pawn? Maybe Nc5 a3! Nd7 Ra7! was the real thing he missed, as it wins one of his pieces without giving him the slightest chance to get rid of the d5 pawn (as the Knight won't be anywhere near the square from which it can cover e4)?

I think Nakamura is a better blitz than rapid player, but after these 3 days you might be right. Nakamura has not looked strong at all and might very well finish the rapid tournament under top 30. Not a good preparation for the blitz tournament ![]()

should be quite a confidence boost. And in the meantime Mr. Bigmouth Nakamura was completely destroyed by almost everyone... People said, you have to beat Saruman to beat Sauron. But this tournament he got stuck on some Uruks, and never got into sight of Saruman or even Sauron.

But this tournament he got stuck on some Uruks, and never got into sight of Saruman or even Sauron. How did Nakamura even make it to number one? Everytime I remember watching a big tournament these last few months he's done poorly, or at least not nearly as well as the other stars. Did he rack up a bunch of chump points or did I miss something?

The Blitz WCS is 3 min + 2 sec. Let's see what Nakamura can do. btw, Caruana seems to be pretty terrible at Blitz in comparison: Rapid Rating: 2857 Blitz Rating: 2697
