Number 1 seed usually starts with white maybe.

also in classical you're not allowed to move through/into check(same for castling). I don't know of any format in which that would be legal.

Karjakin is losing so much

Could you elaborate on that? What exactly is illegal? To put your own king into check? Yeah, compared to Rapid and Classical, Blitz has this illegal move rule. Actually, it's not just putting your King in check; other illegal moves such as putting your pawn on promotion square without placing a promoted piece or even impossible leap with a Knight or sth else lose too. I once had a situation where my opponent had his King on d8 and tried to castle long... towards his Kingside. Needless to say, I got a win and he didn't even object.
The difference is that in Blitz illegal moves are autoloss, wheras in Classical and Rapid, the offender may be penalized by taking some time off his clock or adding it to the clock of his opponent.

Rules are a little different depending which tourney you play in. Usually it's something between just making another move or a little time penalty. Also many tournaments have a limitation, like 3 illegal moves in a classical game and you're out.

Liem wins against Nakamura Carlsen vs. Liem next round
|
Liem and Carlsen are tied for 1st now. I feel that I should cheer for Liem ( hometown hero for me), but I like Carlsen more he.

lol, Carlsen pulling out the internet blitz tricks and flagging him on time :D
|
W8 can someone explain that rule to me ? I'm kinda new in Blitz tournament. The Carlsen -Liem game.

if you run out of time you lose.

Couldn't Liem have played some quick moves and then tried for a draw?
|
100 moves in blitz is quite impressive
|
But Liem seems to still have time there or my eyes were fooling me =/ ? Guess I was busy looking at the table and didnt really pay attention to the clock. Anyway Carlsen is sole leader now, seems great. Also I hope that Karjakin would show a bit more fighting spirit here, he's losing left, right and center.

could he theoretically have claimed a draw on move 102? or is there no 50 move rule at all in blitz?
|

I believe he could because the 50 move rule applies to blitz, but it requires the arbiter to keep check on the moves so that he would know if they're past 50 when Liem would have made the claim.
