I have always disliked the online acronym "WTF", but on this occasion even I felt like using it. Browsing as usual I found out that the Blizzard Art contest is being seeded in many digital graphic art sites like for example gfxartist.com and other such gosu sites and blogs.. After all the prizes are very decent. But then I noticed I found something very odd that I should have noticed it when I first made mention of this contest in our news portal.

the prize for the Blizzard Art contest is shitty, which is why it's the only wcg online event I haven't entered.

I'm winning the same prize for getting people to vote for a picture I uploaded, much easier if you ask me.

Overall, WCG's online prizes are fewer and shittier when compared to last year.

$1000 CASH is in the "decent" range in my humble opinion -of course if they get say 50 good pieces, it is like paying 20 bucks an art piece which they will own the copyright - which is cheap and given their assests and current size.. I guess your right again Rick, it does sound stingy from this perspective.

I'm thinking they don't want to pay the extra shipment price? ;D (W/e the prize is, it must be something restrictive.)

Most contests never include Quebec... because if they do the rules MUST be written in French as well, which no one ever cares to do.

Some weird reason like that I think... might not be that exactly, but I know it's something to do with french

This is NORMAL for most giveaways, prizes you see. They always have borders and boundaries. MOVE! :D Now with regards to the prizes. They aren't bad, but I'm an artist myself and with that said I rather sell my artwork/paintings for no less than $300 a pop. In some cases a lot more. ;/

Um... I would say that it is better for the US economy not to give large money prizes to other nations. That's why usually contests in certain countries are limited to only the country's citizens. Makes sense? Blizzard is a US corporation. It's not advantageous to US economy for Blizzard to offer money to people out of the US.

What is the problem here?

It makes perfect sense that the countries to which they can send the prize money is a limited list. And even if it's not obvious (to us) why some countries are excluded, Blizzard most likely has good reasons for each one. Does anyone honestly think they are keeping countries off the list just to be evil?

Well, apparently Physician does. The way he rants about this is particularly dumb. Example:
You all know that {me <3 Blizzard} & Starcraft4Life, but sometimes, they deserve a good bashing.

For what? For doing something that has a perfectly good explanation that any sane person can see?

Jeezus, I'd hate to be Physician's wife. I'd come home from work an hour late because of an accident on the highway, and discover that he flipped out and told everyone I'm a cheating slut.

Why? Other countries buy their products. Prizes of about $1000 are peanuts to them.

You have to understand that holding contests with prizes take a lot of effort to set up; there are a lot of legal things involved, along with lots of permits you have to recieve.

Also, if the competition was held in jurisdictions that speak languages other than English, they'll have to prepare the rules and everything for that language.

Quebec is an awesome metal place but some things about it are stupid. The "rules must be written in french" thing is just one of many examples. For instance Quebec radio stations MUST play a certain (large) percentage of music from quebec, stores are allowed to have a sign in english if they have a bigger french one, then there was that whole thing about video games that HAD to have french instruction booklets even though it was just one crazy bitch in politics that never played a game in her life that wanted this to happen.

It's not relaly legal issues,
It just takes a lot of effort to set up a contest for every single country, so Blizzard made it available to English speaking nations.

Physician: I would think it should be fairly obvious that there would be legal reasons behind these kind of exclusions...

Do you honestly think someone at Blizzard just hates Quebec and thus they can't participate or something?

I don't see any reason why a fanart contest shouldn't be made global to a global fan comunity. If there are legitimate legal concerns; someone please voice them.

That kinda sucks. I can see why they might not want to include korea especially (lots of people, lots of fans, lots of artwork)

But the other countries.. hmm perhaps someone should email them about it.
