This is perhaps the smartest move they could have made. The immigrants will work cheap jobs with comparatively bad conditions and they will be thankful for that. Its the ultimate win for the german society.

Just to make it very clear: your position is the importation of a foreigners to replace natives. Which means you're openly advocating genocide, just by a theoretically slower means.

This is why the European Elites have all but assured civil wars in the future. People don't like being replaced and it's eventually going to enforce tribalism inside countries. Then, the killing starts.

It's always a nice reminder that the European Elites looked at WW1 & 2, which they caused, and drew the lesson that it was someone else's fault. No, it was their own and they're going to inflict that failure on their children & grandchildren.

Hopefully, the next set of European Wars aren't a repeat of the 20th Century for body count.

Looks like 1.2 million British citizens in EU and 3.3 million non-British EU citizens in UK.

So the answer is to close the borders because any time a foreigner moves into a country it's a slow form of genocide...?

I see that the term has lost all meaning due to its abuse by politicians.

There has never been moral equivalence between murdering a group on a mass scale - actual genocide - with immigrants moving into a country.

The "replacement" narrative is an expression of nativism and understandable, but it has been grossly exaggerated to equate "you" with "potential people who don't actually exist."

Because the idea that the natives can be "replaced" is based on the assumption that they'd otherwise still be there if not for immigrants, which is false on two levels: 1) no one is killing/removing the natives 2) no one is killing/removing their children. So immigrants cannot "replace" natives. They can only populate the country along side natives & their children, unless natives choose not to have children, in which case who's fault is that?

You can debate if it was actually racist/xenophobic or not, but immigration was one of the leading issues that pushed the entire issue.

If you can't see how the Brexit debate was linked to ideas of racism/xenophobia, then you're blind.

I don't know why you think wanting stronger immigration policies is linked to racism/xenophobia.

It seems like you're the blind one to what a slippery slope fallacy that is.

This is the same B.S. that American conservatives pull.

When the only affect of "stronger immigration policies" is to hurt the economy, then it's obvious that the motivation is simply closet xenophobia.

The crap that conservatives in both countries spew about how we need to close borders will do nothing but hurt them both economically. With no legitimate economic or security-related reason to close the borders (no, their ideas wouldn't make either country more secure either), that leaves very few reasons left.

I believe the fact that it's a 'net hurtful' is a hotly contested point.

You ignoring that and assuming what you want to about people you disagree with is a good example of what makes discussing politics 'talking over each other' rather than 'to each other'. Continue with your party-politics agenda though don't let me stop you.

About "unaccountable civil servants" - that is completely wrong. They are accountable towards their employer like every civil servant at least in Germany and that is the European Commission for them. I wonder if that is different in Britain.

My guess is that it's related to her appearence some weeks before. She was at some public gathering and a girl wanted asylum but got rejected. The girl then started crying and Merkel patted her on the head saying "she did a good job", most likely meaning her performance in presenting her case. Merkel also continued saying that she [M.] doesn't have the power to overturn these kind of decisions and there can't be special cases just b/c someone just met the chancelor.
This got the left media in an uproar, describing her as "cold" and "calculating", also not understanding the needs of the little girl.

Then some weeks later we got the refugees stranded in cruel land that is hungary and it seems like she saw that as her chance to redeem herself.

Furthermore, Peter Altmaier, Kanzleramtschef (= chief of staff of the chancellor/ secretary of state) has some very interesting connections to lobbys like proAsyl, which can be quoted saying

Very interesting. But it seems a very stupid reason to bring Europe into this kind of catastrophe. The worst thing is that I read recently quite frustrating article that if the political correctness wins in the short term, the harsh actions that will follow in the long term will be similar to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_massacre_of_1961 , but now it will not be hundreds of dead people, but tens of thousands ...

Ken Rogoff (midly known harvard macroeconomist) makes a point I more or less agree with: it's problematic and even dangerous to base large controversial decisions that can change the fate of a country on referendums that only require a majority and really can go either way depending on how the wind is blowing. It's a criticism not only of this, but also of the scottish independence referendum and others of its kind.

Once again I am going to point you to the example of Kosovo and how immigration can really have severe consequences for a country.

"Can" have severe consequences. Driving at 90km/h "can" get you killed. Crossing the road at a red light "can" get you killed. It can also be the opposite.

Looks like 1.2 million British citizens in EU and 3.3 million non-British EU citizens in UK.

That seems incorrect. There are 2.2 million in Spain alone.

Answers to all these questions are quite nicely presented here:

Yeah, No youtube videos made by weird MRA dudes with a webcam.

Sorry, no idea what is MRA. But this guy is not a weird dude with a webcam, he is probably the most successful company / philosopher of the current time, whose internet "lectures" have more than 100 million views.

So is he more or less relevant than Pewdiepie on the subject? On the scale of youtube stars, where does he rank?

Stop being so obnoxious. Is youtube prohibited from having smart people in it?

That specific video wants 51 minutes of my life when I just asked for 2 numbers. Not even a citation to where to get the data within the massive video.

No, he is not comparable with Pewdiepie. He does not deal with games, but with philosophy and politics. Not sure about your age when you ask such a question.

Next time, don't post a 51 minute video to a simple question and you will get a little less snark.
