But apparently state departments are over-educated useless people and Trump, a man who literally has negotiated nothing in his life, would be the man to solve this 60 year or so conflict.

Hell, the whole thing was dead the moment Bolton was brought on board.

People tend to remember the diplomats that casually threaten to bomb them. Bolton wanted to intentionally tank the talks so what he did is absolutely not surprising. The fact that Trump brought him onboard and didn’t seem to understand what happened to Libya or Gaddafi started the whole comedy of errors that we now see today. Earlier leaks seemed to suggest the US was willing to compromise a whole lot to get a huge PR win and normalise relations with North Korea. Bolton wanted to tank the talks through making North Korea agree to terms they could never realistically meet. When it was clear Trump and the Whitehouse wanted to make a deal no matter what, it seems like Bolton started to bring up Libya to really poison the well.

The nuclear site doesn't matter because the bombs work. They don't need the test site. Every country is now operating under the assumption that NK can indeed use ICBMs to nuke people. NK succeeded.

The problem with America is it focuses too much on war and not enough on peace. That's why Libya triggers people.

More seriously though, what could Trump have possibly offered in return for his demands? That was a nonstarter already. Bringing in the insanity of Bolton and the "Libya model" killed a deal that wasn't going to happen in the first place.

And now it looks like the summit might be back on! What a reversal and change in diplomacy in a day!

It's so beautiful to see two people coming together in mutual disrespect for a stupid narcissistic asshole. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-44265287 The leaders of North and South Korea have met in the demilitarised border area between the two countries. The meeting is only the second between South Korea's Moon Jae-in and the North's Kim Jong-un. It comes as the two sides continue efforts to put a historic US-North Korea summit back on track. On Thursday US President Donald Trump cancelled the summit, scheduled for 12 June, but later suggested it might still go ahead. The latest talks were held on the northern side of the Panmunjom truce village, between 15:00 and 17:00 local time (06:00 and 08:00 GMT), Mr Moon's office said. "Both leaders exchanged opinions... for the successful holding of the North Korea-US Summit," it added, saying that Mr Moon will announce the outcome of the talks on Sunday morning.

![]() I suppose Kim Jong Un shaking hands with President Trump counts as NK doing a surprising thing. We will see how the talks go.
