Seems like that is the take-away message so far.

Have to understand too: what we hear on stream is not what people hear in the room. They are running audio inputs into a mixer for stream consumption. The runners may barely hear the donation comments being read.

i hope what they hear in the room is to a lesser extent, because this was pretty bad. they can definitely hear each other unless the setup has changed from every other time before, and for every other marathon before.. it's very infrequent that they don't interact with each other on when is a good time to read. i think they're responsible for the timer also.

it was a trial and failure thing because mike tried talking over their voices, running it alongside the commentary, shooting them out every once in a while with a small precursor, and raced the cutscenes to see how many he could get out by the end.

no point arguing it out, but i hope it doesn't happen too often with different runs. it surely sets certain people off from donating to have their comments read.

I know that people were doing it before the previous run. I think that they can hear each other usually, it's just if the donation reader is reading softly/reading in a different direction then towards the run with the amount that the runners have to concentrate on the game that adds up to the runners not realizing that they're talking over donations. However, usually the donation reader will just restart the donation that he was reading if he gets interrupted.

What are some other games that you'd want to see in next year's run?

I personally want to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 (NES). That game was super difficult. Also Megaman 1, 2, and 3. Especially 1.....

There's also a marathon during the summer (date hasn't been worked out yet, but it's normally around early June), called SGDQ (Summer Games Done Quick).

TMNT1 has a few people looking at it after this marathon is done (i know feasel was looking at it, for one). There are a few people that are very good at the classic megaman games, so it's very possible some combination of those games will either be a SGDQ or AGDQ 2014...or both.

I believe there are plans for a ESA 2013 ( European speedsters assembly or something) which can cover a lot of games as well.

This as well. I forgot about ESA, but it was lots of fun last year.

Random note. Still hoping puwexil picks up the tower and throws it at a random encounter :p

...

DO NOT MOCK THE TOWER (its a bidding war as to what happens to the Tower btw)

Ok it's the tenth time I read about the Tower, please explain the pros and cons :D

Its a joke between western FF9 runners.

The old route of FF9 disc 4 used a weapon called the tower it takes 3 steps to obtain and saves a turn on Tiamat and means you don't have to buffer Zidane's final hit on Necron. However those 3 steps are in a very high encounter rate room so you have a possibility of getting an encounter obtaining it (Encounters are 30 seconds minimum).

Runner break down:

+ Show Spoiler +

People who use the Tower -

Garnet 2525 (Old FF9 JP WR holder)
Crystalbeauty ( FF9 NTSC WR holder)
Drazerk (I suck)

People who don't use the Tower -

Spikevegeta
Caracarn
Tomato rice (JP WR holder)
Seymiru
Puwexil

I'd take it I think lol
Also FF9 speedrun seems kinda interesting, do you know if there's a sheet somewhere to help me learn it or something ?
I learnt a good part of FF8 but it was pretty easy in the fight parts and it was more or less an optimization of the way I played the game when I was 12 so I gave up on it.

I think its gotten to a stage where we all use different routes with some key equip screens being the same. Since my notes are very risky (I don't use tents on Gizamaluke and do frame perfect tricks) I wouldn't want you to use my notes however there are notes somewhere in the SDA thread here which will get you started http://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/final_fantasy_ix_speedrun_58.html

Also it should be noted that I am working on a 100 noble route so there is even more to learn.

Thanks found them^^
I just want a basis anyway, not sure I'll do it really seriously. And yeah, one frame tricks at the beginning would be pretty tough, I'd like to get a decent time before trying crazy optimizing :p
Do you get the sword fight reliably ? I think it's really really hard to get those 100 nobles :/

Getting 100 nobles is RNG but me and Puwexil get it often enough to prompt us making a route for it.

So hyped to watch SC2 campaign get demolished. I went to bed early enough last night to ensure I wouldn't oversleep, given how SDA marathons screw with sleep schedules in general.

I personally like to hear banter/runner commentary in most cases, it's pretty helpful when watching games you don't know much about. The fancy stuff is more impressive when they explain either how fancy it is or how much it saves. Donations eventually get caught up.

I imagine Cosmo will be commentating non-stop during Wind Waker. He's pretty good at it. It helps the casual viewer be more interested in the run - there's a reason Cosmo is so popular.

What archive do you refer to? If you check "Past broadcasts" on twitch any run should be up within 1 hour of being completed (obviously you will have to find it in the most recent vod yourself).

EDIT: Check here for vods: http://www.twitch.tv/speeddemosarchivesda/videos?kind=past_broadcasts
It gets updated automatically every 20 minutes or so.

If not, Mirrored is scheduled to do couch commentary, and he knows Wind Waker reallllly well.

Hey guys, it's Lee. So I've got a pretty cool announcement to make. Blizzard just contacted us, and they'll be providing 25 HotS beta keys, 5 copies of WoL, and 2 Collector's Editions of WoL. I believe they will all be prizes that you can donate for.

Also the camera apparently messes with the colors. The shoes are oxblood in color and the suit is charcoal.
