I would be losing real-world value/usage by not having a headphone jack.

I think only phonearena said bezel less but who cares about buzz words anyways. Putting it next to an s8 makes it obvious that it isn't.

it's cheaper nowadays and has more features the lack of android updates it's nonsense most of the time, just slap a custom ROM like Linage or something that's stable enough and GGWP, you have updates almost as if it was a Pixel My 3T will hold me over untill the next gen phones, maybe the OnePlus 6

I'm not saying wireless is the solution, there are dongles for those problems which isn't elegant, but idk if that's worth discounting the rest of the phone just because you're forced to use a dongle

Isn't the Pixel 2 XL using the same screen P-OLED from LG ?

I'm now addicted to the rear fingerprint scanner, and I need a notification LED. UI needs to be clean. Fast charging is good. Don't need crazy specs so long as it's not significantly worse than the 5X. Doesn't look like there's anything at the moment that has all of that for the N5X's pricepoint. Closest is maybe an Honor 6X, although Huawei's UI is apparently awful? EDIT: actually the G5S looks pretty neat, except it doesn't have an LED. Anyone know what moto's always-on display is like? It's really useful to me to be able to see whether I've got calls/texts/etc without having to touch the thing.

But Motorola "active-display" is easily the feature i miss the most after upgrading to my OP3T, it's hands down amazing and i haven't seen a phone with a better system. It's awesome... Motorola Android is among the best, Stock Android + GOOD features. You can also look at the Xiaomi Mi A1: Android One (Stock android), SD625, 4gb ram, 64gb storage, 3080mah, good camera All for the low price of $230 from AliExpress

The active display isn't too bad. I still don't think it's as good as an RGB notification LED I can customise, and it bugs me that such a simple thing is being left off all these fancy phones, but it's livable. My one gripe is that the fingerprint scanner seems way twitchier than my old one. The N5X would clear me 9 times out of 10 first go, but the G5+ seems to fail two or three scans every time before letting me in.

For the same price you can get the S8+ 128gb version, IP68, headphone jack, a better screen (and design if you are into that), almost same battery, micro sd slot. Of course pure android + fast updates it's great and may be worth to some.

Wow, it really looks as if the screen on the Pixel 2 XL is not all that impressive to me. I'm glad that I choose an S8+ for my new phone (No 128gb version was available where I lived, but 64GB + expandable storage is enough for me). As for stock Android, to me it always feel like after-market skins is ahead in functionality and stock is always playing catch-up. I can't fathom how it took Google 8 years to implement a restart function in stock Android (which every device I've used since 2010 has had), and that native split screen was only implemented in Oreo, while my Note 10.1 tablet had it already in 2013 (The functionality was limited, but it was still there). Plus, upgrading OSes is not always the utopia people make it out to be (I'm hearing quite a bit of people having issues with iOS 11 that wasn't in iOS 10 for example). But in the Android world, if you are using stock Android you can't do anything wrong.

I went to the verizon store to see if it was that bad and while there's noticeable blue tint at wide viewing angles, it's nothing like what the article complains about. both the s7 and the s8 also suffer from this angle issue. also i find samsung's design philosophy both on the UX and hardware to be obnoxiously loud and belligerent, i much prefer stock aosp. I'm speaking for myself here but most of those little features that you're talking about have been remedied by some very good custom ROMs.

Stock android it's much more elegant and doesn't look like it was meant for kids, i really don't like touchwiz UI, it might be the worst one.

Hardware and software design are inherently subjective things, and custom ROMs are in my eyes the opposite of stock.

"what I'm seeing is making me very sad because I want to love this phone. But the display is...what the display is. Now I'm sure they can adjust some things with better calibration, that's really going to help, but that's not going to take away the graininess you see (or blue color shift). Just when you start getting to those lower brightness this does not look like a phone that should cost me over $1000, and I'm not pleased with that at all."
