This is a tragic event. Let's not derail the thread with a gun control debate. Posts from page 9 onward will be moderated for steering the discussion towards gun control.

I found she was to uneducated to really follow, she was presenting her case in a very subjective tone which the entire time wasn't about asking questions, it was about getting the viewer to share her worries/opinions. It's one thing to be curious, it's another thing to present it like that
How many of you have faced schizophrenic murderers? I have faced three ( and around 20 more schizophrenics), and I can say you I prefer to have cancer than schizophrenia, despite seeing two mans dieing from cancer this week, not a nice death I guarantee you. Schizophrenia creates huge pains, it hurts a lot to be in a world you don't understand & that does not understand you, besides there are often those voices which say bullshits & you can't unhear. Just to say that if he's diagnosed as a schizophrenic, society just should try to treat him. It's not his fault, you don't choose to suffer this disease. Get a proper health care system...
Why is this such a huge deal? I don't want to sound insensitive, but 85 people get shot to death every day in the USA. Don't you think the media is making a big deal of an anecdotal incident?
User was warned for bringing this up in the wrong thread

I think the biggest reason why this is a big deal is A) 12 happened at one area in short amount of time, b) huge number of injured. c) we don't know why.
The huge media coverage is mostly behind the question of "why?"
as far as other massacre's there often has been a political message (anders breivik etc etc.) or obvious stresses/unhappiness (typical workplace shooting). But from what the media has shown, that Holmes although slightly socially inept, was overall what society would deem as a "good person" before the incident. The kid graduated with honors and top marks in one of the most difficult majors out there, continued on with a PhD in it. He grew up in a nice neighborhood~
It seems very contrary.
Also insert Joker quote from the Dark Knight, while he's talking to Harvey, about planned and chaos. If something is planned, people's reaction to it is rather muffled, and pretty mediocre, if it's not expected it'll have a much bigger impact. The same thing applies to this incident, the lack of motive/rationale makes this incident far bigger than it deserves to be.

Propaganda.
People are using this as a platform to make an argument to their cause for a multitude of things... just read the contents of this thread.
Lack of proper mental health care Lack of gun control Too much gun control Our punitive system The human sense of justice
etc.. etc..
Oh I forgot one... you know there are going to be nutjobs claiming that since he said he is the joker- Movies are to blame for this incident.
ok just to be clear, is anyone actually arguing that this guy should just see a shrink and be let out in a few years, just because he's "insane"? i really hope not.

I don't think anyone is arguing that. I think the point is "insanity" you get mental treatment, and are put in a psychward/prison for his entire lifetime, as opposed to life in max security prison/death penalty.
Pretty awesome, Christian Bale is visiting the victims in the hospital.
Christian Bale, who stars in The Dark Knight Rises, is visiting the victims of the Aurora, Colo., shooting spree who were injured while watching a midnight showing of the movie.
According to a local Denver TV reporter, Bale was seen entering the hospital where many of the wounded are being treated.
One of them, Carey Rottman, posted a Facebook photo of himself with Bale at his bedside.
"Mr. Bale is there as himself, not representing Warner Brothers," an assistant for Susan Fleishman, executive vice president for Warner Brothers corporate communications, tells the Denver Post.

I just saw this and checked to see if anyone posted it, way to get it out to the community.
Christian Bale, hate him or love him, is now one of my favorite actors people for doing this. He came in via ambulance and didn't bring any paparazzi or anything with him, he didn't Tweet about it to brag about how great a guy he is, he isn't representing anyone other than himself, he just showed up and spent time with a bunch of victims. Such a genuine act of kindness. Way to go Mr. Bale.
that's pretty classy of him, this completely compensates for his on set freakout during terminator. in fact he can have as many freakouts as he wants and my opinion of him will remain high

I sort of agree with you, I mean there are horrible atrocities occurring in every country on earth at this very moment; many of which are of greater gravity than this. My conclusion is that:
1) people care about their own country more than other countries 2) the news loves stories like this ("if it bleeds it leads") 3) people are fascinated with crazy people doing crazy things(as am I).
edit: also +1 to Bale for reaching out to these people. Very classy of him. I can't help but wonder if he feels partly responsible(even though he's clearly not).

Did I ever say it wasn't tragic? Of course it's tragic. So is the death of any good person who dies before their time.
I just read the newspaper and saw that two 17 yr olds, a 5 yr old, and a 3 yr old died in a car accident to a drunk driver. I don't see you posting about that. There are children living in poverty and starving to death in many nations throughout the world. I don't see you posting about that either nor do I see memorials being held on TV on a daily basis for these deaths. There are plenty of tragedies happening every day around the world that go unnoticed and unmentioned. Are they any less tragic or important? No.
It's the fact that so many arguments can be made for many causes because of this incident that gives it such a huge boost in the media.

You know why you don't see me posting about that? Because i didn't know it happened!
You know why i haven't posted about african child deaths on this thread? Because this thread is dedicated to the Aurora Batman shooting. If you want to make a thread about the drunk driving deaths or the starving african children, GO AHEAD.
Sure, you can make arguments about almost any tragedy. This tragedy is obviously going to spark gun control debates because the shooter used legal weapons to slaughter people. A drunk driving accident will push an agenda for stricter enforement of the law.
Even if all the stuff you rambled about is going on, why should this get no media attention because well, "other people die too." I guess we shouldn't have war memorials, because well, lots of civilians died too.
Don't tell me about tragedies, my sister died the day she was born. It'd be nice if you could see that even media talking heads genuinly are sorry for the losses of others. Not everyone is a robot.

Also, while not a big deal because of how much money he has, he paid for the trip himself. Completely independent. I am glad he didnt go as the batman, that wouldve pissed me off.

i like that it was NOT public AT ALL. the only reason people found out he did it is from the people who actually saw him there. he didnt bring the studio he didnt bring cameras or newsteams he went because he as a person felt the need to and he tried to do it without getting any "look how nice i am" attention
nothin but class act here imo.
he has had his freakouts but this is one of those true color moments imo... now if he showed up with his entire studio and 3-4 news channels i wouldnt be a big fan but i REALLY do appreciate how he approached it

Many Alex Jones listeners are just another brand of blind followers. I use Alex Jones as a source for topics to research on my own, things I wouldn't have heard about otherwise. I think that the way Alex presents information is actually a tactic to discredit people that bring up important information about the workings of government, intelligence, finance, and general history.
Umm... what does Project MKULTRA have to do with the shooting? As far as I can tell it was abandoned in the 70s, way before the shooter was born, and all they really managed to do was mess up their subjects/provide them with free LSD. They completely failed at any sort of practical mind control...
I did find this unintentionally hilarious, though:
As the experimentation progressed, a point was reached where outsiders were drugged with no explanation whatsoever and surprise acid trips became something of an occupational hazard among CIA operatives.

I can see the amusement in it, but its still a horrible thing to do. Dosing people is a fucking dick move.

Uh... he was a graduate student in an academic program. There's nothing strange about him quitting. He wasn't working for the government in some secret program. People quit grad school all the time for one reason or another (this guy probably quit because he's fucking crazy). Ridiculous, uneducated conspiracy theory.
