This is a tragic event. Let's not derail the thread with a gun control debate. Posts from page 9 onward will be moderated for steering the discussion towards gun control.

All you can really do is hope that it won't happen in a theater/bank/museum/airport/business center where you actually are yourself or know people who are there. I mean yes, it's bound to happen at some point, but it still feels like a weird thing to mention. A major attack happens and "it was bound to happen" isn't the exactly the first thing I think, whether or not it is. Same could be said about a variety of events anyway. Not that there is anything wrong with your logic, I just personally wouldn't really consciously think that :/ Hope it's just an isolated incident and we don't have more of these... man just terrible. I don't know anybody in Aurora myself, but hope the injured's lives are saved and that they aren't permanently injured by this one perpetrator or perpetrators if there turns out to be multiple people involved in the shooting....

I was going to go and see the film but decided not to because it'd be so late. This is so shocking and unbelievable. I'm in shock and I wasn't even there. I really hope that your friend is alive, fellow TL user

Reporting on 14 people getting murdered with 50+ wounded isn't sensationalism.

Wow...glad you're still here to be able to talk to us, just crazy. I hope the fact that you know he got shot means that he was able to contact you somehow and thus will be able to survive. Thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and families in that shooting, as always. Just so, so, sad.

I see your point somewhat, and I find it worse when especially (not all) politicans use this kind of tragedy in their campaign and arguments. I mean, when they bring up this "card" as they suit their personal campaign interest, THAT is what fucks me the most up. This is really sad news though.

This world is big enough to generate freaks from time to time and our coverage is good enough to instantly know about them when they snap - that doesn't mean they're on every corner waiting for you. You know what I mean. Ok maybe you don't. I was just saying - I wanted to go to the early release but ended up not. What if that had been me? Is all. You don't have to explain to me what every sane person knows and accepts.

You can literally say the same thing about any tragedy, that it's statistically likely to happen at some point. That doesn't really say anything. The point is that instant talk about "tightening security" and "needing guards in movie theaters" is utter bullshit since it won't fix anything.

RIP and although I feel bad for the families, I feel even worse for the victims for having their lives ruined permanently. Holy shit. The shooter just ruined a ton of people's ambitions and dreams with one fell swoop. That's bullshit. It's not impossible for one person since it's obviously a crowded place where people don't expect it as well as the reported tear gas. The norway incident was similar where people were stuck on an island. It's "easy" to kill a lot of people if they are cornered.
