I just want to check out what's everybody's eyesight condition after many years of internet browsing and hardcore gaming to see if my assumptions are correct .

Poll: How's your eyesight?
(Vote): Perfect
(Vote): Nearsighted
(Vote): Farsighted
(Vote): Bifocal

Perfect after playing an average of 2 hours of games a day since I was 4. I am now 24.

Perfect. I do have some weird disease in my right eye, but my eyesight on my left is perfect ;D.
And yeah, I've probably played computer for 8 years, 2 hours a day average.

I think eyesight is totally genetic by the way. My sister has had horrible eyesight since she was about 5. She couldn't read clocks. My Dad and my Mom also have eyesight issues i.e. contacts and or glasses. I've just been blessed with perfect vision or maybe training my eye muscles with games has helped. Just kidding it's genetic.

Hm that's not the case in my family.
My mum and dad have perfect eyesight even now, and NO ONE in their family has a histoyr of wearing glasses (Except for old-age related). Yet me and my sister wear glasses (near sighter) T.T

Well so far the results are just as I expected half will be fine the other half will be nearsighted due to staring at the monitor for such a long time that their eyesight is fixated on that distance.
The other 2 will be a minority and btw if your vision is equally bad at both near and far distance that means you're using (or should be using) bifocals so just vote for that.

i'm nearsighted, but my father was too, so i don't blame the pc. but it's obvious that computer screes may ruin your eyesight, just like reading books can do as well. you'll look smarter with glasses tho! ^^

20/15 vision up until recently and now it's back to about 20/20.

It'll eventually degrade down to a point where I need to get myself LASIK, but that should still be several years away.

I've always wondered, if you're nearsighted and you were to spend as much time staring at something further away (for example watching tv at an average distance) as you did staring at the monitor which is almost impossible lol but in theory would your eyesight revert back to its old fixation or is it damaged forever?

20/20

but lately i've been seing dots sometimes when i'm looking at dazing at something or trying to concentrate on an image. I see this a lot when im biking and reading a paper. There's like a dot and when i look at it it falls off or moves towards the side so i cant see it anymore. Quite weird but i think/hope its going away.

My eyesight is perfect. Since I got computer (`98) I am spending at least 3 h in front of computer a day. Never had any problem with eyes. I just eat allot of carrot.

not necessarily, i've read about people who could revert their eyes back to normal doing some exercises with them (consistent and about a long period of time)
only worked with 'standard' near/farsight troubles though afair, and i've had a friend whith glasses who told me he'd rather stick to them than do those exercises for the time that would be necessary

i do not remember where exactly i read that, though, but if you're interested do an amazon search like 'cure for imperfect sight' or something like this

also in that time I had monitor who couldn`t support more than 60 Hz @ 1024x768. I played few years @ 60 Hz. And no problems. Now I play @ 100 Hz.

That's very interesting! I've done some searches about that on google but I've never found any useful info that could backup that theory. I'll check it out, thanks.

Perfect.

Although apparently as you get older, small proteins form behind your retina or something build up and you see these small trancelucent things in your vision.

Try staring at something for a while and you will see what looks like a particle in a microscope in your vision.

This is something I heard from someone...they are present in my vision and apparently everyone has them. So even if that isn't the science behind it...there definitely is something there.

Very bad. But I don't think it's from gaming. Everyone in my family wears glasses. And I've worn glasses since I was about 11, which was before I started using the internet and playing games alot (and even then I had a strong prescription).

-1.0 and -1.5 I left and right eye respectively I think (not too sure).

The reason staring at the comp so long makes you have crap vision is because your cilliary muscles in your eyes which control the thickness of your lense don't work for extended periods of time. This lack of "exercise" of those muscles causes them to shit out so they are not as effective when you look farther away and they need to work then to make your lense thinner.

So like after every game you should look out to somewhere far for a bit to make your eye muscles work so you don't strain them by staring at comp screen.

perfect. im also able to read at a longer distance than anyone i've ever compared with and made people go like what the fuck how can you read that several times

I'll probably eventually become farsighted but I have no problems with close distances at the time being.

WHAT?! If I did my calculations correctly and if the print was 2 cm across you shouldnt be able to read it for SHIT. The human eye's resolution is a little under 1 arc minute while the letters would be around 0.3 arc minutes wide. Someone please correct me!!!!!!
