When I was in Budapest I was getting half liters of decent beer in BARS for under a Euro.

Yes because there isnt any micro brews and there isnt every single type of beer available in the united states. Companies like budweiser get alot of attention because it's mass produced, markets itself accordingly, and therefore is cheap (cost of production, cost of marketing, and amount of sales due to marketing and low price). It's marketing is why it gets foreign attention for being the American beer. This does not mean there is not hundreds of types of beer in your ordinary liquor stores and thousands of local brews in specialty shops. I've probably only bought a 24 pack of Budweiser once or twice but I jump on the opportunity for some Granville Island (brewed in Vancouver). But even that does not compare to the hundreds of micro brews i got treated too at a local beerfest last weekend. TLDR beers the same all the way around. Theres high quality beers wherever you go. And let's be honest, if you're getting drunk off beer and you're into starcraft you're probably young and dont want to spent out the ass to get where you want to be (ie shitfaced), hence Budweisers success.
