I've brewed up a few batches so far (all-grain), and they have all been great. You basically make a giant cup of tea, boil it, cool it, ferment it and carbonate it. If you guys ended up w/ a 12% beer, I would recommend a more basic recipe to start with. You probably needed high gravity yeast for that much sugar/alcohol. Make sure all your equipment is sanitized. You could also try brewing from extract first to get the boiling and fermentation processes down before having to deal with grain.

The question is whether the positive psychological image you have of drinking beer is sufficient for you to overcome the taste. If so, try to get used to it.

Now if you were to drink only a handful of times a year why wouldn't you get something thats nice rather than cordial, sugar and alcohol mixed together? Oh I guess that's right , never thought of it like that

Keep trying different types, but if you don't like them then don't drink em ![]() Myself generally dislike lagers, they tend towards blandness and boring taste. On any night out I'd tend towards any of the following depending on mood: Baileys British Ales (whatever is on tap, Fullers is standard around here, recently enjoyed stuff from Darkstar) IPAs (Sierra Nevada being the most commonly available) American Ales (Stone, Dogfish Head, Brooklyn mainly available here) Belgian Ales Blonde or Brune (Leffe becomming more widespread, Delerium Tremens is cool too) Fruit Beers Traditional Cider (i.e. flat, not Strongbow) Guinness Porters (Fullers is nice) Imperial Stouts White wine (Reisling / Sav Blanc) Red Wine (Shiraz) Neat spirits would be: Hendricks Gin / Most single malts (Whisky) / Stoly Elit Vodka (to me more interesting than Goose) / Dark Rum / Cointreau Amaretto & Lemonade / Whiskey (Bourbons) & Coke Cocktails are fun too. Flaming Lamborghinis are a good laugh. B52 as shooter of choice. Old Fashions as cocktail of choice. Lychee Martinis are something easy to knock up for ladies visiting (Gin or Vodka + Dry Vermouth + Lychee juice (always have a spare tin handy + splash of bitters) Edit: just remembered some Sloe Gin a friend of mine made, it was crazy nice. Fuck I sound like a god damn alkie.
