WOW.
Michelle's speech was REALLY good. It was light on substance but it really fired up the base. It wasn't just 'politician' good, it was fucking Braveheart good.
But wow. Bill Clinton just killed. It was substantive. He made policy important and compelling. And it made Obama look really smart and the RNC's talking points look really shallow.

The Arizona's representative is hilariously awkward...

Are you saying we don't get long waits, rushed and impersonal care, and ridiculous bills routinely?
I have insurance, and it still wasn't terribly fun waiting about 2 hours for someone to relocate my shoulder.

Bill went about ten minutes too long, but he still defended Obama's record better than Obama ever has.

You really don't think they'll use him?
I know that he's prone to actually speaking the truth (as opposed to talking points) every once in a while but he could be useful as a surrogate. I wouldn't ever put him on the same stage as the President (Clinton is notorious for making every event about him) but trot him out in the swing states to do media and speaking engagements?

Ya, it feels like hes just having a conversation with you.
I don't know why everyone is so afraid to just come out and talk about things. Obama needs to be defending himself like this.

Someone should force xDaunt to watch Ryan's RNC speech and Clinton's speech back to back. It's fucking embarassing how good Clinton's speech was.

The Republicans can't attack Clinton though, that's why.

My thinking is that most convention speakers get caught up in the moment, and play to the crowd. Bill was speaking to the cameras. When he kept saying, "This is important," what he is really saying is "Stop fucking cheering because I need people at home to pay attention."

They can't attack him because every American wants to return to the Clinton years.

It's interesting that the Republicans accuse the Dems of peddling bullshit, considering how their convention's speeches went.
More seriously, though, I don't understand how you can honestly go with the argument that because Clinton's speech was good that's going to be detrimental to Obama's speech at all. Obama needs to give a decent speech. That's it. If it's mediocre, critics will compare to that speech. And then they've got to deal with, in doing that, bringing questions of actual policy to the forefront. Talking points like that the GOP's been in love with like, "How are we going to pay for this?" when their own party is planning to increase the deficit might actually be addressed, for instance.
Beyond voodoo and "I'm not Obama so vote for me", I mean.

Clinton resents Obama after the brutal campaign he ran against Hilary. But I think Clinton will continue to back Obama because
a) Obama has been good to his wife. b) Clinton is an egomaniac that loves attention and power c) It sets up his wife nicely in 2016, when she will be the de-facto leader of the party.
