Romney being Mormon is my biggest reason for not voting for him. Many, many other people in this country vote for president based on religious belief. It's relevant, and you shouldn't be surprised it came up.

What i was thinking about the upcoming election as an European is Obama has got this won before it even started. because of these reasons -Mormon (Feels like religion is an important issue in US elections) -very liberal for a conservative. -"draai kont" has switched opinions often.
Ofcourse i am no American so my ideas are purely based on the little Fox News and Daily show/colbert report i watch and sporadic Financial times reading

Its not a terrible argument. Like an earlier poster said, I seriously doubt the mental capacity of a man who believes that Native Americans were originally white, but were turned red as punishment for being sinners.
The president can make or break the economy and has 10,000 nukes at his disposal. I need to trust his judgement.

Hmm. Another aspect of Mormonism to consider -- it is ethno-centric. It is a religion created by Americans that claims America as some sort of Holy Land.
I actually find it terrifying to think our president could possibly hold such a personal belief. It's at least well worth mentioning.

Seriously guys? I thought only the Evangelicals voted based on religious preference.
Every religion has something "questionable" in it, but it's necessary for a politician to be religious if he wants to get elected. That might suck for some of you, but thats the way it is. Romney was raised Mormon, his family was Mormon, his friends were Mormon, etc. Do you really think he's just going to switch like that? It's pretty clear he's not a hardcore Mormon (like Santorum is a hardcore Catholic) otherwise we would have seen him advocating the whole "USA new Zion" stuff. He's never done anything remotely like that....

If I'd get to vote my vote would go to Rick Perry
He is the man

The thing is, Obama most likely only pretends to believe in Christianity. The Church he attended for decades is a liberal Church - the type that focus more on social justice rather than taking literal interpretations of the Bible.
Chances are Obama thinks the story of Jonah is metaphorical for some bullshit related to God trying to teach people about the values of courage and doing what you feel is right rather than trying to run away. The difference is Romney genuinely believes in Mormonism and even served as a Mormon parish leader.

Saying politics is useless is like saying math, art, science or design is useless. It defines culture and the world we experience. Unless you live in the forest with wolves, you're political. It's a non-sensical statement. What you mean to say is government and politicians are useless. Which is also kind of silly.
Governmental politicians. Their job relies on mesmerizing people so they get elected, meanwhile nothing fundamental ever gets solved because it's out of their capability..

This is pure speculation, but personally I think Obama became Christian simply to be involved in the black community of Chicago, work as a community organizer, and participate in the political landscape there.
He described his mother as being a 'secular humanist' ... i.e. an atheist. There is no way that Obama thinks Jonah lived in a whale.
And to be fair, I don't think Romney thinks his underwear is magic. It's just a ritual that's part of his community. He's not betting that his underwear is going to protect America from nuclear missiles.

TBH being Mormon is not much crazier than being an avid follower of ANY religion. If you are some Evangelical hick, and you think that you are superior to a Mormon because your beliefs are somehow less insane, then you're fucking wrong.
You shouldn't take religion into account when voting if the candidate keeps it as a personal matter/ belief. Conversely, if a candidate like Santorum DOES base his campaign around his Religion, then yeah, screw voting for him and his stupid Religion.
Anyway, I'de never vote for either of them.
