Dear America,

Vote Obama.

Sincerely,
Rest of the fucking world.

Directed at your comment:
He is very nice to the rest of the world he emulates the normal style of more socialist or psuedo-socialist governments popular in europe, however, he had a democratic super majority in the beginning of his term in office because everyone was angry at the republicans. He proceeded to do absolutely jack shit and attempted to pass a health care bill that was too costly for our government right now, and too much for our economy to handle, he shoved it down the throats of all the democrats and if they didn't vote, they were called racist. Sounds totally legit, IKR. The fact is that until you live here, you don't understand why our politics are as weird as they are. You are in Ireland, or so your moniker states, its fine that you don't know the intimate details of the literal amount of 0 change he brought, but at the same time, to be so forward about who we as a nation should vote for is a bit out of tune with reality.

Directed at the original idea:
The president doesn't matter much after appointing the supreme court judges, because he is now mostly a figure head since modern politics have placed a lot of power in the legislative body even after George Bush created the pocket veto. What matters is congress, and this largely republican congress was elected because the democrats had the worst popularity EVER, seriously it was at 13% at one point. People inside and outside of the U.S. are quick to forget how little got done and how much was spent during that time.

Granted some say Obama pulled us out of a coming depression, but afterward many economists stepped forward and said that they had said before that the recession was just that, and the fear mongering was popularized by the liberal media and conservative media for no reason other than views.

Basically its all about congress and the senate once you understand american politics,

The claim that Obama has done "jack shit" is just an oft repeated political sound bite that is factually incorrect. http://whatthefuckhasobamadonesofar.com/

Those headlines on that site are a bit misleading however. He put a Wall Street lackey in charge of the Consumer Protection Agency instead of Elizabeth Warren. He ended 'enhanced interrogation', and then turned around and signed the NDAA which reapeals that decision. Signed Financial Reform law which was weaksauce (McCain was in favor of reinstating Glass-Steagall). Headlines about his failed healthcare reform, etc etc. That shit needs some SERIOUS fact-checking.

It displays the source for every claim made on the website. Your criticisms are claims that all lack any justification. If you're going to challenge facts, then common sense demands that you present facts.

Lack justification? Sorry, I often take things for granted that I think is common knowledge, or obvious. Most of those subjects have been debated on TL at length (understatement).

Elizabeth Warren was kicked to the curb for Richard Cordray to head the CPA that SHE CREATED. Mr Cordray is in the pocket of Wall Street. Of all of Obama's disgraceful nominations (Geither, Summers, etc) this one stung the most (for me).

http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2011/11/elizabeth-warren-201111

For facts on the NDAA, I recommend you take a look at the thread here on TL.

McCain was in favor of reinstating Glass-Steagall. You can debate whether Obama's Financial Reform law is stronger than or as sufficient as Glass-Steagall I suppose, but most agree that it is not (aside from whether you think that is good or bad).

http://wallstreetpit.com/13031-will-cantwell-mccain-reinstate-glass-steagall

Obamacare has also been debated at length and has its own thread here.

@ {CC}StealthBlue- *high five*

Wasn't Warren basically boycotted by the GOP in the Senate to guarantee she wouldn't get the job? If I'm not mistaken, the entire agency has been targeted by the right ever since its first inception.

That might be part of it, but she started butting heads with Dems who were receiving Wall Street cash (Schumer, Reid, Dodd, etc). Axelrod's argument was that it wasn't worth the fight, they didn't have the political capital, and fell back on typical pragmatism. Of course, Obama takes in quite a few dollars from Wall Street as well. But really, what's the point in having this agency if you are going to have the fox guard the henhouse?

Just like every other issue, no attempt at leadership is being made to bring the case to the public.

I'll agree with the point that he's not acting like a leader, to the Democrats mainly. Every time they go to the table, he picks the middle, Republicans pick the right, and Democrats pick their nose.

Yeah I turn 18 on the 30th. Can't vote either. Personally I would vote Obama, but because I can't vote this election I didn't take the time to really look into this stuff so I don't have a properly educated view on the matter.

I enjoy now having the choice between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama instead of last time, John McCain and Barack Obama. Was never a McCain supporter, but Romney is closer in line with what I'm looking for in a Presidential candidate.

The downside is Romney's introduction of Romneycare while governor of Massachusetts. He chose not to distance himself from that decision. I am very opposed to the institution of required purchase of health insurance for the individual. Well, at least he has successfully run a business and, at least, pledges to repeal/defund Obamacare (Affordable Health Care Act). This is my third time voting in a Presidential election, and I consider this one even more important than last two, given the path the country has been heading in the last 4 years.

Bush had a chance too stop North Korea from getting Nukes. If he's a better president than Obama. Why didn't he take the necessary steps too do so? The guy that lead us into Iraq for no reason AT ALL, which will go down as the 2nd Vietnam is not better than Obama. The patriot Act, 2 wars = 4 trillion dollars, the bush tax cuts (pandering too the rich to create jobs with nothing to pay for the tax cuts) Sorry that you don't realize that Bush was a bigger part of why America is failing. The whole North Korea thing was before the Iraq war btw. WE KNEW for a fact that they were developing nuclear weapons. Yet, we went to Iraq because we thought they were making weapons of mass destruction. Such a brilliant president.

And we had a chance to stop Russia after WW2 didn't do that either. The patriot act how bout the 2012 defense-authorization bill Oh god GW is listening to your phone call. The Bush tax cuts were across the board btw that's why Obama won't ax it because he'd be raising taxes on the middle class and small businesses as well. So what's your plan with NK? We'll be fighting China in a heart beat.

What does ww2 have to do with Bush? Bush had the option of stopping a country developing nuclear weapons vs one doing nothing.

Herp derp the patriotic only allows wire taps. I guess the rest of it Is just fairy tales.

The DA act would have passed with or without Obama.

Herp derp again of course Obama went for the bush tax cuts during an election year. Political suicide would have been better I guess. That way we could Romney and his puppet masters.

Do you reall think china would attack us? Really? Doubtful send every drone we have at north Korea and watch china sit there because they don't want a war. North Korea has continued to violate sanctions and the bombing on south Korea was an act of war. Yet we allow that too happen. All while threatening Iran who has done nothing with no proof of doing anything kind of like Iraq. We will continue too sit on NK until they become an actual threat to our soil and it will be to late.
All while destroying the middle east.

Well put. Your wisdom is infinite as you have displayed with your many paragraphs of wisdom.

Your sarcasm is pathetic and unnecessary. I was simply stating my opinion because the poll didn't have an option which conforms with the opinion I hold.

And why don't you want to see Romney win at all?

Are you genuinely interested or do you just want to respond with a condescending smartass reply again?

After reading through this thread i think everyone is going to be pretty surprised come November, I think it's going to be way closer of a race than what the majority of people think. Personally I hope Romney wins but i don't think it's going to be a close race either way.

I think everyone is going to be surprised how exactly the same both Obama and Romney are, moderates. Add to the fact that the polarization of the two political parties the next four years will pretty much be the same as this past four years have been.

NOBODY!!! Somebody you can trust this election 2012. That said, better Obama than Romney if only because we've given lots of other presidents 2nd chances who were much worse - infamous Bush Jr...and Obama does believe that he will have less restrictions on what he can politically do once he has won a second term. Praying for regulation of nuclear industry on a federal level especially since California private companies are using the same reactors Fukushima was using.

I know this statement above isn't an opinion between Obama or Romney..its beyond them!

The Lunatic vs the Liar-
Probably still better to vote for the sane guy (Obama), but I'd be more interested in a thread about reforming the american political system (public funding of parties, 2 party system etc.) but that would imply the possibility of meaningful anti money reforms passing in the US. So yeah- mostly disillusionment here.

The only way to have three parties is to vote for three parties. If you're going to "waste" your vote on a boycott or something, why not "waste" it on a third party instead?

Also, a (hopefully) inspirational post I wrote about voting for a third party, in the "Why do people in the US vote" thread.

Not sure how the Republicans can hate on Obama he has been one of the best presidents they have ever had, every thing they wanted has been handed to them from Obama. I voted for him in 2008 and I've been disappointed countless times, with the way he just caves into their every demand, just throws away his own policies to compromise with the Republicans in some insane hope that they will return a favor. The one thing I think Bush did right that Obama could have learned a lot from is Bush never gave a fuck what his approval rating was he pushed his agenda and he made it go through no matter of how fucked up, unconstitutional or even down right illegal it was he still did it.
