It really seems to me Obama does a really good job at making his opposition look evil not by dismissing or ridiculing his ideals, but simply by acting sincere/genuine. I'm not sure if that's a good thing. i know the US won't be getting a mormon as president so that's a good thing. we don't need religious ppl making policies based on an old book, instead of based on what is rational. I'm sorry but saying that rape is an act of god makes him look retarded.
i know it means the us military won't be getting a funding boost.. another good thing.

A Christian of another sect is so much better? And it was a couple of other crazies that said that about rape, though he endorsed one.
Also.

None of the people talking about rape were mormons.
Also, mormons don't believe in anything all that crazy when compared to the others.
You get your own planet? Jesus came to America? Indians were a tribe of Jews?
Yeah, none of that beats believing that someone walks across water or comes back from the dead. People need to stop pretending like mormons are crazy, whilst themselves believing that god incarnate walked the earth as his own son.
If you're an atheist and don't believe in any of this silly stuff, oke, fine. But I really get riled up from Christians laughing at what Mormons believe.

however, it is a very tightly organized religious colony with a theocratic organ that does exercise a bit of control on what members believe and have access to. in this it's prob not unlike some early christian colonies but it is still a distinct feature of it that can qualify it as a cult, as more than a throwaway insult. it is a legit cult.

i don't know what she was expecting or projecting, but I thought she was getting slightly more than that on Tuesday personally. Nothing crazy, I didn't expect to hit 3% or 5% or anything crazy, but she got 0.3% , only 390,000 voters showed up to vote, and I am surprised Johnson didn't hit 1%.I was expecting a bigger 3rd party turn out for this election, but it's probably just me seeing so many talk in distaste about the 2 parties and the current system, and these same people are probably just not going to the polls instead of voting for either main party.

it's progress. they need some organizational new blood to run all the social media stuff though. with better exposure they'll do better. all they do is complain about ballot/media access, should be developing a better platform and getting that out there instead.
edit: seems like the nader debacle really devastated a lot of people lol

And you vote for the candidate not the party. Then.. How did someone like Romney with next to no solid stance on anything get into this election? No one knew what he would be doing, except that he is a republican (with a funny religion) and therefore probably will follow republican "doctrine" (more or less). If you would really vote for candidates, there would be more than 2 serious candidates with sharper individual profiles.. Not just 2 with only one really defining attribute - The R or D before their name. Well, he got past the primary because all the alternatives were invariably horrible or crazy. He was the option of last resort; they even tried Bachmann before him. And his positions were still solid enough that they were markedly different from Obama's. I was speaking to your point about the parties being too broad though. Which definitely isn't true for the Republicans as their tent is very small lately. You know exactly what you're getting when you elect a Republican, the exceptions I can count on one hand. The Democrats are more broad but that's what I meant about voting for the candidate. The difference between Elizabeth Warren and Ben Nelson is clear.
Not all the alternatives were crazy/horrible. Jon Huntsman seemed pretty rational and moderate, which is why he lost.

http://www.examiner.com/article/do-conservatives-have-the-guts-to-admit-nate-silver-was-right
The election result was not kind to the bubble universe of conservative thought and Fox News. Conservatives were so sure in predicting a Romney landslide right up to that infamous moment when Karl Rove, in an unadulterated act of disbelief, challenged Fox News' call of Ohio for Obama. It wasn't what he was saying, it was the utter shock. He simply couldn't believe it. For several moments there, he couldn't believe reality.
So how were they all so sure and got it so wrong? How were they so convinced that Romney would win big? Why were they the last to know? Because they denied that an overwhelming number of state polls were right. A denial of math and science. By cherry picking Republican leaning polls like Rasmussen and rejecting the rest for having large Democratic compositions, despite that being a response variable. By refusing to believe real statisticians like Nate Silver, Drew Linzer and Sam Wong (the former two predicted all states correctly).
The woman on Fox News chided Karl Rove: "Is this math you do as a Republican to make yourself feel better?"
And that sums it all up. Of course, denying reality and science is an intrinsic component of the conservative worldview, so denying unfavorable polling is just an natural extension as I've argued before the election. This is what happens when the "facts" come from an echo chamber that simply refuses to believe what it doesn't like to hear, regardless of the evidence.
Do I expect conservatives to reexamine how they all managed to get duped and then for them to get with reality? Do I expect anything to change? No. Denying climate change, evolution, statisticians that show Obama winning, is simply an integral part of their anti-intellectual platform. I've said it before, the number one reason by light years, why I'm not a conservative: I hate anti-intellectualism.
And it makes me feel really good every time this bubble universe is popped by reality, science and math.

1) Karl Rove knows more about politics than either of us could learn in six lifetimes. and this isn't even debatable.
2) He had limited information, and if you actually listened to him, he made a really good point: his information was more recent than Fox's and it had Obama and Romney within 1000 votes of each other.
3) Karl Rove was a part of an election in which all of the networks called a state too early, and it damn near kept his guy from being elected. he was being careful, and probably grasping a bit, and yes, he was wrong. that doesn't make it a bad point, it makes it wrong.

"Kill Romney" was the Democrat strategy, in their own words, for this campaign. and that statement was made before Romney had even won the primaries, so don't come talking to me about running a campaign on hate.
edit: FTR, I do think the Republicans needed to be better with their language and with the perception that they were giving off. so to add to my first point, don't assume things. I'll condemn Republican hate just as much as I'll condemn any hate from any side.
