The only real items I have that I think I can really keep, that I was hoping I could wear them with, are jeans and some check shirts/polos, and some solid colours v-neck sweaters.

What klind of style would be good to get for a first pair? What about good old Doc Marten? http://www.drmartens.com/Mens.asp Something from their Rugged line would be great to wear casually with jeans and chinos.

Looking for some boots to wear with jeans and casual shirts/sweaters. I like the look of these but I'm unsure if they're a bit too formal for the outfits I have in mind. Thoughts? What klind of style would be good to get for a first pair? I agree with Juliette that the boot you linked is a bit to specific. You really want one thats Dark Brown and usually something with little (like quater brouge) or no brogue pattern. The following are pretty affordable and fairly good quality, not toptop but Herrings own are usually Loake made. These are very nice but also pretty nondescript, neautral boots, they do however have a leather sole http://www.herringshoes.co.uk/product-info.php?&brandid=6&shoeid=2867 I really like these, and have been considering buying a pair myself, these also have a rubber sole which wont get as slipperly during colder days. http://www.herringshoes.co.uk/product-info.php?&brandid=6&shoeid=7359 I have these, they are very nice chelsas at a good price, chelsa boots are great since they work to a lot of different outfits. obviously there are more popular higher quality chelsa's like C&J or RM Williams, but id rather buy two pairs of shoes than one myself. http://www.herringshoes.co.uk/product-info.php?&colset=1&styleid=89&shoeid=3044&brandid=6&catid=109&oldcolid=3856&stype=0&colourid=435

I guess you can get C&J's as well as trickers cheaper in stores inside the UK? I havn't been able to find any retailer that sells boots of those brands with a price lower than 300+ Euro's.

![]() I think I might fo go for the darker brown rubber-sole boots linked above. The stratford's are very nice, but I'm looking for something I can just wear over the weekend without worrying about what the weather is like, a leather sole won't do. I insist on quality leather-soled shoes for more formal wear, but I'll sacrifice it for convenience with my casual clothes. You won't see C&J benchgrade for less than £300 in the UK, and that's only a couple of cheap (non-leather) options, most are £350+ Trickers are a bit cheaper for shoes, but their boots even more expensive, they're mostly around £375...about €500? I really want a pair of these, but I need to get the rest of my wardrobe sorted before I spend so much on one item.

They were kind of his thing. While he was a hard working guy that never gave a damn about fashion it was sort of part of his signature look. Everyday except at church he wore blue dickies, a flannel shirt, and a cabbie hat everywhere. Now I was extremely close to him so I've been toying with the idea of keeping that tradition alive. About me,31, 6'2", bigger guy, don't have measurements but 36x32 generally in pants, could stand to lose a few lbs. I've been balding forever and I've made peace with that so not really looking for a hat for the sake of covering anything. In fact I've never been big on hats on the whole, never wore baseball caps growing up, I don't have any hats except a stocking cap because I live in MN where it gets cold as hell. I'm a pretty standard guy. I wear jeans and T shirts 99.99999999% of the time. I'll dress up decent when going out, though my partying days are long behind me. I'm pretty no frills, no accessories. I'd like to bring the look back to pay homage to him while not coming off like a hipster doing it for some sense of irony. I guess I'm looking for ideas or thoughts on the issue. Suggestions? I don't want it to be like some designer thing where I'm looking to show off some brand or anything. Its an old school working man look and I think that's kind of the beauty of it.

What do you guys think? + Show Spoiler + ![]() I like them. Colors are 'in' and they are dark so they are as versatile as a plainer grey/black/navy jean. As for the cabbie hat - just do it. They've been around forever (as evidenced by your grandfather) and will only make you look as hipster as your let them. Just own it.

I have to wear a suit around twice a week, and now that it's getting cold, I was thinking of getting a nice scarf and overcoat. I'm also a student, so i'd like to not spend too extravagantly Any recommendations/suggestions/advice?
