Normal chinos+button down+blazer combo would be easily reachable within $400 (and even then I'm listing stuff that might be a bit more expensive at normal price, you can easily buy shit for cheaper if you buy everything on sale). | ||

Yes, thanks in part to this thread, I've been able to get some decent pairs of chinos, collared/ocbd shirts, and sweaters for cooler weather at reasonable prices with very little effort put into it. Shoes were the only expensive investment for the day-to-day, but a good pair of Allen Edmonds can be expected to last a long time. * Bonobos sells great chinos of all colors, and has a discount for first time buyers that someone in this thread can probably give you (I got one from Focuspants) * Banana Republic has online and occasional in-store sales all the time that they will email you about. Pants, shirts, sweaters... I've been happy with their stuff. * Express has some good fitting shirts and pants, also for reasonable prices and frequent sales (I'm not a fan of their heavily branded items, but I like the 1MX shirt fit) Just those things, and two trips to Uniqlo when I happened to be visiting NYC, has given me a much better day-to-day personal and professional wardrobe without spending anything close to $2000. | ||

Also, Rick Owens makes some nice ones. They are a bit pricey though :/ | ||

I stlll think you can do better than bonobos, BR, and express club monaco is having a sale right now on sale items. some of it is off season. they fit pretty slim http://www.clubmonaco.com/category/index.jsp?categoryId=12243596 also ricks and annDs being a "bit" pricy haha. im looking at no more than $300 btw with 2k you could do a fuckton of things. you can probably get a good start with $500 if you buy smart and dont just mass purchase everything | ||

I would wear tie + vest to: my job (high school teacher; majority of the male staff is polo shirt or shirt without tie, rarely any jackets) on a date to a moderately priced restaurant (under <$40/entree) to a dinner party just to hang out somewhere if I felt like being a little bit 'dressed up' I think adding the vest improves the look drastically (unless you have the body of a god, adding layers will almost always make you look better) and ties up the ante significantly. It must be said that I don't feel adding a vest/tie makes the outfit any more 'formal.' It's still a (relatively) casual look. | ||

Grey shirt is ok but it really really depends on what you mean by purple tie And pulse yea i prolly wouldnt spend 2k on a lotta stuff... I want to pull trigger on a trench but i already bought stuff and i wont need it till august... So no point | ||

I'd also advise against wearing a white dress shirt with jeans, doubly so with a tie. Frankly, the only time you should be wearing a vest is if you're wearing a tux, aka very formal. It simply is out of place any other place. I know I'm very much against rules in dressing or whatever, but sometimes some things just doesn't go together. This is one of those occasions. | ||
