Any recommendations on what kind of shoes to wear with slim fitted black jeans? I've been wearing these brown Lacoste shoes but i feel like they don't really match ( I also heard you're not supposed to wear brown shoes with black pants??). I'm looking for a more casual type of shoe I can wear anywhere( mostly just to school). Oh, and I'm 19 if that's of any relevance. Thanks! | ||

I don't want to look too formal with sneakers but sometimes those black leather shoes seem too much. | ||

I don't have much to start with, so I'm looking for stuff that is very versatile. I was looking at some chinos on Bonobos.com but I don't really know what color(s) to get. What are some shirts I could wear with chinos? | ||

As a general rule of thumb, it seems black/brown don't really mesh super well unless you are very specifically making them coordinate. When I wear black pants and brown shoes, I'll also have a brown belt, brown watch band and maybe a brown collar showing from beneath a black sweater. It basically needs to look intentional and it can work fine. I don't see it often on other people, but probably because there is a stigma about the "matching" rules. Another consideration is fabric type. For example, a brown wool coat would look pretty sweet with black leather shoes and a black scarf, etc. You can alternate fabric types to make certain pieces stand better on their own. | ||

On a side note, + Show Spoiler + Why did tasteless and artosis stop the "professional geek" look with sports coat + funny t-shirt. The "comfortable, yet professional" look is already accepted as the de facto standard within the SF/tech scene. I really enjoyed how they brought a casual feel that reflected their casting style of two buddies, hanging out, nerding out and talking about starcraft | ||
