My current collection consists of Ardbeg 10, Laphoriag Quarter Cask, Lagavulin 16 and a Cragganmore 17 (favourite, but I've stopped drinking it because it's limited release). I would like to supplement my collection with either a Corryvreckan or a Uigeadail. Could anyone give me a run-down on both and/or a recommendation? Also, if by chance anyone knows of anything like the Cragganmore 17, please do let me know. I've had a few other speysides, but none of them really match up to the burst of awesome that is the 17.

Maybe this Ralfy Review will give you some insight: Both Ardbegs you mentioned are very powerful, smokier versions of the 10, with the corry being extra smokey and the wii being more sherried and thick. But they are pretty expensive for what they are, and as such I wouldn't recommend them when there are so many other things to try. If you like peat, you should try Caol Ila, Bruichladdie and springbank, the latter from Cambeltown.

I have the Corry and Uig, as well as the latest Ardbeg limited release, Galileo. My first preference is the Galileo (which should also be easier to find, available in Dan Murphy's now I believe). Although that doesn't answer your original question, I haven't delved deeply enough into the others to have a preference. They are both good, and both "Ardbeg". Either is a good buy given your tastes. On January 13 2013 05:20 Abraxas514 wrote: If you like peat, you should try Caol Ila, Bruichladdie and springbank, the latter from Cambeltown. I was under the impression that Bruichladdich was nothing like other Islay whisky's because it has pretty much no peat in comparison to all the others produced in Islay - which have incredibly heavy peat. This is at least the case for the "Standard" expressions of Bruichladdich anyway, making it very different from the other options you present. Caol Ila on the money though, good stuff indeed.

You're right, laddie is definitely less peated. It makes a great comparison to peated islays though. EDIT: but it's not like bunnahabhain, which is completely unpeated, and honestly, the best "soft islay" that exists. Think HP but less honey.

2 dashes of angostura bitters, half ounce of lemon juice, ice and diet cola (I use pepsi max) will allow me to drink as much cheap blended scotch as I want without even noticing the burn of alcohol. It COMPLETELY masks it. Now I should mention, the only reason I did this with blended scotch is because my dad got a handle of it for New Years that he doesn't intend on drinking himself so I had plenty of that to work with. So far I've had this recipe with a generous 4 ounces of scotch stirred in and it's ridiculous how much it masks. Not my most proud Whiskey story as it does involve mixing Whiskey something you aren't really supposed to do, but it's worth sharing.

I recently bought FourRoses small batch, Makers Mark, and Knob Creek. I was really influenced by the tv show Mad Men. Don Draper just seemed bad ass drinking hard liquor at work. I am still getting used to drinking bourbon neat, as the alcoholic taste is still a bit much for me. What is everyone's favorite way to drink? Neat, water, ice, or mixed drinks? When I first started with scotch I always added some water, but today I have no problem drinking a cask strength abunadh straight
