Tulip glasses do make a small difference since they hold in a bit of the aroma. I've got some Glencairn glasses to feel all fancy, though honestly miniature brandy snifters are probably the best.

I've got some Glencairn glasses to feel all fancy, though honestly miniature brandy snifters are probably the best. I find that snifters make it so that the smell and taste of alcohol covers all the other aromas. My best friend's gf has a pretty popular food blog and she was in some wine tasting organized by Riedel. In addition to wines, they tried some other beverages in various glasses. Snifters made almost all of them taste horrible and Maximilian Riedel said that he doesn't recommend snifters for drinking anything with alcohol in it. Even brandy and cognac tasted way better in almost any other glass than a snifter. I use Glencairn glasses for whisky. I've really liked most Scottish single malts I've tasted so far, but unfortunately they're quite expensive here so at the moment I don't own any. A while ago I emptied a bottle of 10 y.o. Jura and a bottle of 16 y.o. The Glenlivet Nadurra. Nadurra was lovely, and had a somewhat "elegant" flavor (I'm not good at describing whiskys in English). Jura was much more rough and I didn't like it at first, but started liking it a lot too eventually. Now I only own some very cheap blended Scotch that I mainly use for cooking and mixing with Ginger Ale. I'd like to try Japanese whiskys but they're ridiculously expensive.
