I feel a lot more comfortable. How should I phrase it? And where should I go? if you are 16 then you go to high school right? so you have like a short lunchbreak or something to do this in? imo ask her out to something outside of school hours , cos having lunch together like you suggested sounds kinds cheesy
I'll answer for him: He has lunch and a free period with no class. So, it's like 75 minute free period + 40 minute lunch, minus travel time.

I agree with sickoflife on that one. But then I'm rude to everyone anyway. The best looking girls already get complimented all the time. The ones with brains don't care about that anymore, and the ones who do care probably just want the attention as they're messed up.
I've heard a couple of times that the best way to start a conversation with a supermodel is to point out the part of her you like least. I guess variety is the spice of life...

That's all I've been saying the whole time. You don't have to be this or that, you can be anything, but you have to be CONFIDENT.

I love how all these threads end up in basically the same place: Be mean(er).

Fuck off, I want an argument! If you're going to agree with me, I'm just going to have to come up with a new position.

Yeah, I'll have to agree with these guys. Girls who are outgoing/confident are often given compliments, and usually react well to someone who isn't afraid to take some playful jabs at them.
This is -not- the same thing as being a dick. You have to be careful about this.

Thanks Daishi/Sick/Brood (nice to see you're back!) I can do what you have suggested. Sure I shouldn't pay for her lunch? I mean, I am the one asking. Will she assume that since I ask, I mean that I'm going to pay? I still need some good topics to talk about? Is there some kind of topic I SHOULD get around to on the second "date"? or something I should cover? i don't know. seems like there should be.

Definitely. You can always overdo things, too. It comes with experience, I guess.

Whatever comes up, talk about it. See something funny? Talk about it. I don't think there are any presets to talk about, or anything like that.
Make sure you have enough to cover the two of you, in case she doesn't bring money, but don't immediately offer to pay. Look at the bill, divide it, let her know what she owes, and see how she reacts, I guess.

Is she short? You could always make jokes about her height. Those are fun, too. You don't even need to say anything. There was this one girl I knew (didn't work out), she was short enough to rest my arm on the top of her head (5' 3" ), and doing that is a "playful" jab. Kind of.
EDIT: Remember, not all people react the same to the same things. So, that's actually, to me, kind of a tough question.

I'm almost six feet tall, somewhat skinny. What kind of joke should I do? Any suggestions? Nothing that would make me a dick please.

Ok, i've decided to add my input.. do with it what you will.
First of all, you are likely setting yourself up for disaster. You play these situations out over and over in your head rehearsing every possible angle and trying to come up with the perfect line. Well it isnt that simple and nothing is ever going to be perfect or just the way you pictured it, so that when you finally do strike up a conversation/ talk to her/ etc, you wont know what to say, you'll be more nervous, and you'll come off as insecure and strange at best.
What you need to do is to play it straight up. Sure, you can wait until you are relatively alone or whatnot as it not will be comfortable for either side if there are a bunch of peers hanging around. Tell her the truth, that you like her and would like to get to know her better. Ask if she feels the same way, but dont make her answer on the spot. Give her at least a little time for the shock value to wear off. Dont try to tell her you love her or any shit like that, because that kind of obsession type crap will get you nowhere. Dont expect her to instantly fall in love or anything like that.
She could say yes or she could say no, but finding out how she feels either way is much much better than sitting around day in and day out wondering. If she says ok, then great get to know her and spend some time with her on a more personal level. If she says no, be respectful and move on.
Dont be mean, dont be overly nice. Be. Your. Self.
you need to take action... sitting and thinking about taking action will get you nowhere.

Ok, there are two schools of thought to this. Some people will tell you that paying for lunch is too nice, others believe that it's a gentleman's duty. I tend to lean towards the second, but nothing's set in stone. If I ask her to lunch, I'll pay. If she asks me, I'll gauge how she'll react to me paying, and play it by ear. I think you need to ask yourself how she'll react if you offer to pay. You always have the back up plan of the "I'll get this one, you get next time".
About the conversation, that's entirely up to you. There are certainly some topics I'd shy away from, like politics, war, or anything else inherently depressing. For me, I tend to shy away from talking about movies in early dates. I know I can be overbearing about them, so I tend to downplay that so I don't come off as obsessive. If there's something you're REALLY into, don't get all worked up about it in conversation. If, by some cosmic allignment, she starts talking about Starcraft, DIVERT DIVERT.
Music is always a good topic (unless you're a music historian). Ask her about her tastes on a variety of upbeat subjects, and always try to subtly steer the conversation back to her. Try to have some jokes ready for when the conversation stalls.

I think we need to not have prepared lines. I don't really understand this kind of thing, I have a hard enough time in customer services style job being polite to people as it is. I can't help but be rude.
Just don't sit there saying on date 1 or 2 "your eyes are like limpid pools of water" or some crap.
|
also i dont understand the "date" talk... If both parties dont agree that it's a date, then it's simply not a date... no matter what you and your mind think.

Well then we'll use it for the sake of discussion, ok? I don't think semantics are all that important right now.

Right, which is why you present yourself in a manner which is obvious that it's a date. You don't do it in a friendly way, but in a date way. There's an undescribable difference between the two.

Jesus refrain, I think you worry too much.
