About the encryption problem:
With this kind of computing power, can't you just make stuff equally save?
I don't really understand what I'm talking about here but isn't this just the same problem as we always had?
Like make huge blockchains or something

yes, no doubt someone will think up a new form of encryption that will be secure but the issue is all the data currently that would become unsecure and inertia in updating security.

Like how many pc's don't regularly update or run old versions of windows/other programs that have security flaws that were fixed but until they update, if that ever happens at all, they are a security risk.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

in the asl group stages, the first two matches are bo1 and the winners'/losers'/final match is bo3. in gsl all matches are bo3. are there any big reasons for this difference in formats? in terms of pure competition, wouldn't more bo3's be better? I would hope it is not done for time constraints.

edit: it seems in asl ro24, all 5 matches are bo1. has it always been like this?? no wonder i can never pick these groups :D

Anyone had experience with clumps of hair falling out to the point of baldness? Been happening to my sister for months now and the doctor's only answer is it's "stress". Previously she had very low vitamin D and the hair seemed to be growing back when they fixed that, but now it's falling out again and her vitamin D levels are normal. She's in another country and has a hard time navigating the medical system due to not speaking the language well.

knowing tl, there might be a magician but probably not. most common leads to hair loss are stress and heredity.

Well, there's also radiation poisoning and exposure to various nasty chemicals.Could her job expose her to anything hazardous? There should obviously be protection and safeguards if so, but just throwing that out there.

She's teaching from her apartment and hardly leaves so would have to be something in there.

Possibilities i can immediately come up here of bad stuff in an apartment:

Lead in the piping
Other bad shit in the drinking water
Some stuff in old paint (possibly also lead)
Asbestos?
Mold (Though that would probably rather lead to respiratory stuff)
(really far fetched) a basement with lots of granite leading to radon accumulating

Has she been to a doctor?

Is there a way should test for lead?

She's lived there for 5 or 6 years though and the hair loss just started this year. I've never personally heard of someone's hair coming out in clumps to the point of baldness just from stress.

Did anything change in the last 2 years? It doesn't have to something big. Constant but relatively mild stress could still be the cause of her problems. Usually when we hear about someone having problems with stress we assume it's something very serious, but that's not always the case.

All that I know of is the pandemic and US politics. Worried about money too I guess we've been trying to help her with that. It's hard to know because we only communicate through email mostly and she's private about stuff sometimes.

Could be a sign of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Thanks guys I'll pass along to her the ideas of lead poisoning and PO syndrome. Think she's going to try visit a different doctor too when her friend comes to visit and can translate. I know one big stressor for her is the thought of losing all her hair again after it was just starting to grow back :/

Consider holding on with passing along the ideas before she gets a second doctor's opinion. If she's losing hair because of stress, telling her to worry about mutlitple different things might not be the best idea.

Agree on this.

Doctor could run a blood test for heavy metals just in case though. Lead is pretty easy to test for. It's also *very* unlikely if she is living in a normal modern-ish apartment (and not in Flint, USA)

Thing about hair loss is that it's biologically really complicated. Usually, stress IS the cause of it. And given that you said she's worrying about the state of the world and her personal financials AND she has a history of hair loss... well. I would put some type of poisening really far down on my list of potential causes. Truth of the matter is, current medicine has an incomplete understanding of what neural processes lead to hair loss in any givien individual and cures beyond relaxing and waiting it out are more often than not pure scam.

EDIT: Also worrying about losing more hair will not help with stress recovery what so ever... It's a vicious cycle at this point.

Have the US people here heard of a writer called "Karl May"?

He is a german author who wrote a gigantic amount of wild west fiction at the turn of the 19th century (and some other stuff, but the wild west fiction is what he is famous for). Some of his iconic wild west characters, like for example the Apache chief "Winnetou" are basically almost universally known in Germany.

So i got to wondering if this means that there is a whole bunch of wild west mythology which is only known in Germany, and not the US.
