Having 5-10 year age diffrence is pretty normal and thats just a fact.
Its only a problem if one party isn't even ~25.

But times long ago you were done school ready to start work or pump out kids not to mention as a women you had very few choices. Now at 16 you are still pretty coddled and taken care you don't the Independence to create you "self" or whatever. One of the psychologists that frequent this page could probably explain the dangers of that huge of a age gap at such a young age in a clinical sense. And then the whole other issue is what type of 29 year old wants a 16 year old. I get they might be attractive and "pure" or something. But 0 life experience comparatively. You are going to likely become the caretaker more then a partner. There is also the whole slippery slope argument. If 16 is ok how about 14, 12? The longer some one can wait for a "adult" relationship the better. if 16 isnt ok how about 18? 20? 28? The problem is not that she is 16. The problem is there is an age gap, an income gap, and a cultural Capitap gap. It's much like fucking your boss is not the same as fucking a hooker which is not the same as fucking your maid which is not the same as fucking your wife. Power dynamics happen for all kinds of reasons and when there is a disproportion of power then problems arise. You're taking about someone who is old enough to be run his own business versus someone who can't even vote. The amount of power and social capital each person has is massively disproportionate. To put it simply, if she were just 5 years older she'd be old enough to drink and it would still be ridiculous for her and the 30 year old to spend that much time together. From a legal standpoint we are forced to make arbitrary lines, that is correct. Arbitrary lines like age, social relationship, and cultural relationships. Rules like bosses fucking staff, parents fucking children, etc... these arbitrary lines are drawn because at some point we have to put down on paper that which in truth is always vague and contextual. and so we cannot escape the slippery slope. we will fall no matter what. There is ZERO slippery slope. The more equal two people are, the more likely their relationship works out and is fine. The less equal the are then the less likely that their relationship works out. There is ZERO slippery slope. Slippery slope happens when you actively forgive disparities in equality just because you think 16 is young enough for a 30 year old while others think 5 is old enough for a 30 year old. Isn't a slope with infinite friction just as bad?!? Everything's a slope if you're pedantic enough.

In your world of 10 year age gaps, how often is it a poor 45 year old married to a rich a 35 year old? How often is it an old lady with a young guy? Or do you often find that it's an older person in high social standing or wealth with a younger person of lower standing or wealth? Power disparities are always awful.

Was going to recommend: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3272165-bad-science Reading the reviews, they look like they send a similar message on the topic of quackery. So whichever one you want. But just tell your friend to listen to the doctor. He/She studied for years to learn how to treat diseases. Why would you rather listen to some random schmuck on the internet than that obvious expert. And if you doubt the advice he/she is giving you, get a second opinion from another doctor. Notice how it says doctor and still not random person on the internet? Yeah. But there is actually a well known natural remedy to cure Lyme disease: penicillin ![]()

Also, it says in this unregulated advertisement that their products is doing all these things that the regulated information about the mainstream medicine doesn't claim. Further, in this link there is an anecdote, from another practitioner and stakeholder in the alternative treatment with what for me looks roughly like an MD, where everyone treated by this medicine immediately gets better. Good luck! :/

When it comes from people I care about, I try to be polite, but to complete strangers I have no problems saying that I am not interested in stupid nonsense.

But there is actually a well known natural remedy to cure Lyme disease: penicillin ![]() Oh but this doctor has bought something that for me looks equivalent to an MD from Dodgy University of Homeopathic Naturohealing. This is something that annoys me to no end. It is basically impossible to find a doctor that does not have one of those. And the apothecaries sell homeopathic bullshit right next to actual medicine. I know that there is a demand for this bullshit among stupid people, but please. Your business is to heal people, not to sell them bullshit that does exactly nothing. The parents of my girlfriend are really into this stuff. They also really suck at causal arguments. So every time they come here, they bring a shitload of useless sugar pills, because you "have to help your body stay healthy". We have a whole cupboard of that shit. Every time one of us gets sick, they claim it is because we don't take enough of the shit. Not on the fact that we work with lots of different children throughout the city. Or the fact that we meet dozens of different people in sneezing range at university. And i have talked to them. It is impossible to make them understand this. Whatever i say just sounds like "I don't care about your daughters health" to them.

![]() edit: this may come out the wrong way, so even though I am aware that the explanation ruins the moment, I meant it like "here I can observe people presenting various anti-medicine idiots they meet while I am casually benefiting from the state-of-the-art product of modern medicine"

The problem is with people who claim that everything can be fixed with a diet that's particularly hip right now or which they have just thought of in their dreams last night and with people who claim that only "natural medicine" and similar bullcrap is the solution to everything. These are just idiots, or sometimes also golddiggers, if they happen to sell said medicine or somehow monetize said diet.
