Very very location dependent. I have no issues with MN tap water in general, go far enough out, and as usual it is well water instead of municipal sources. I would hesitate if I lived in NYC, as I didn't drink from the tap when I lived in China (though I likely bought just as shitty water there) it was psychosomatic safety.

It's one of those "Dad jokes" like "I'm hungry" --> "Hey Hungry, I'm Dad" or the "Miss, can I go to the toilet" --> "I don't know, can you?"

In the US, usually San Francisco/Oakland/PaloAlto. Occasionally the Chesapeake, but that's more a local thing.

I would say San Francisco more than Oakland, I mean it is referred to as the city by the bay.

Nah, the Bay area is actually defined as the 9 counties surrounding San Pablo Bay and San Francisco Bay.
From my experience living in San Francisco, people would definitely still refer to themselves as living in the Bay area in not only Oakland but also San Jose.

New Jersey is a state full of massive highways like the Garden State Parkway. Jersey folks tend to have thick skins, though, so I don't see that joke working too often.
