I'd use some discretion while browsing this. Most of it is people against it, but people are posting some pictures of the event and some really are NSFW and pretty graphic.
Why would anyone be surprised or ashamed of this? Breaking stuff is the natural response of drunk angry fans to losing competitions. Just because we do it mainly behind closed doors as ESPORTS fans doesn't mean we shouldn't support it. As true ESPORTS fans we need to take inspiration from the Canucks on successful rioting. How can ESPORTS aspire to be a mainstream professional sporting event without ever producing equally disciplined and passionate rioters.

I am embarrassed as a Canadian because this is immature and has nothing but negative impact on everything.
This isn't who we are as a country, it is the world we should live in, and quite frankly it does nothing but show that despite thinking we are civilized people, a little booze and emotion turns crowds into big giant temper tantrums.
I don't see why we should think it is acceptable... in my eyes it is a complete and utter debacle.

We didn't riot and trash our own city, and it seems just inexcusable that the riots happened. Vancouver as a city should be ashamed. There was only minor rioting when the Oilers lost in game 7, i don't recall the year. I did hear something about organized looters being present a short while after the riots started, but that doesn't excuse or explain the widespread damage that occurred. SMH VANCOUVER.
Fuck that, I'm not gonna be ashamed for the conduct of a bunch of complete idiots just because I share the first 2 digits of a postal code with them.
I will be pissed though - I'm not sure who has died since everything seems so rumour-esque, but I heard from 1 (bad) source that 2 Boston fans were killed - that is disgusting. I'm not taking any guilt to sleep, but I sure as hell will beat the shit out of any Vancouver fans who condone it or were involved.
Anyone who supports this kind of behaviour is equally as pathetic as those perpetrating it. you are as much as waste of human life as they are.
pushing over a car because your sports team lost a game? Thats somebody's car, it belongs to them! They probably worked very hard for it, and used it in their everyday life, to get to work and to get around. How dare you destroy it on a silly little whim, or condone the destruction of it from afar?
Its utterly pathetic and words cannot express how contemptible they are.

And no, saying its just the minority doing crazy shit does not make it any less worse.
Why doesn't it make any less worse? Weren't there a small minority of Finnish people who went over to Sweden after winning WC2011 and ran people over with cars and burned a Swedish flag? But I don't generalize and say that Finnish people all do crazy shit like that. Same goes for what's going on in Vancouver.
No. A minority of people drived to sweden, then opened car windows and then honked honked and laughed at swedes. Or at atleast thats erything i remember reading and seeing, gotta check somewhere.
Ok i found info about ppl burning flags, but not anything abut running over swedes. But hey do you remember what we did when we lost to sweden in olympics 2006? We went to sleep early sad.
It's not even about the hockey game really. Most fans just went home. It's just the 0.01% of the population that was looking for an excuse to cause some destruction. They were waiting for it this time around. In '94 it took a few hours of escalating tension before the crowds got violent, this time there was a car burning within 5 minutes of the game being over.

i hope they all die in the fires they set. getting that worked up over a game? get a fucking life or get the fuck off the planet.
Don't group the majority with the minority. There's probably only a few dozen out of two million people in the greater vancouver area that're actually instigating the riots. There's a few thousand that are contributing by just standing around spectating and not going home. There were around 70,000 people downtown at the peak tonight and given that some people went downtown specifically to riot/loot it's going to be a long night for the police.

by providing an audience for the idiots, they are enabling them to do what they want to do
when people are rioting, you go home and you secure your own property and you wait for it to subside
if you are going to stay, you pitch in and help stop it. If you don't want to help stop it (totally understandable through a fear for your own personal safety if you tried) you go home.
regardless, I was not lumping anyone into a group.
anyone who cares enough about a sport to actually cause property damage or violence is pathetic, regardless of who they are, who they injure, or what the property damage significance is. End of story.

Anyways, my point wasn't to embarrass Finnish people. It was just to point out that in any society, there's always some minority that does stupid ass stuff. Regardless of the magnitude of the stupidity we see, you still can't generalize from a minority to say that an entire population is stupid. You only get to generalize stuff if you major in math XD

The problem that police are apparently having is that a lot of the people who came from elsewhere in greater vancouver via public transit can't get out. The Skytrain/Canada Lines have been shut down to prevent damage to them, The major bridges out of downtown have been closed and a lot of buses aren't going downtown either. People are literally stuck downtown since they don't know how to get out since some of them relied on just getting on a bus or going to a skytrain station to get home.
