Is it because of the higher taxes/waiter salaries/raw food costs? Basically you either have to shell out 20€+ for a meal or settle for a McDonald's. It's a pain really. I've never been to Korea but I'm pretty sure you have cheap and delicious small restaurants at every corner. I'd kill to have that in Europe too.

There is a grand total of 6 or so television channels, 2 of which are government funded and run weird stuff. I just torrent stuff these days. Everything is overpriced here. A 600mL bottle of water will run you $3.50 (about $3.20 American) Everyone is racist here but most deny it. I mean EVERYONE, no matter what race you are, it's just in the national psyche.

I hate the backlash against education that's becoming more popular in our country. I've never seen so many people *proud* to not be educated. Seriously political candidates in some states will get up on the podium and proudly announce that they "Never went to no fancy liberal school," or that their opponent is an elitist jerk for having an education. And the crowd fucking devours it too.

-We've got a serious obesity problem. -It's the American psyche to get married at ~20-23, have kids at 25, then work 40-50 hours a week for the rest of your life until you can retire. Everyone just accepts this and very few manage to escape it. -The internet is garbage here. I get 8 down .7 up and I live in the second largest city in my state. -Rednecks. People who think it's cool to wear camouflage baseball caps into restaurants. -It's full of people that stop learning when they graduate highschool, then lose what little they did learn by watching American Idol. -People that spend money they don't have and don't know how to save, then whine that they never have any money. I'm pretty bitter today ![]()

Exaggerated sense of self-importance for a country of whopping 4.8 million people. Too many political parties, many of which have like 3-5 % of the votes. Governments don't get anything done because they are invariably coalitions w/o majority in parliament. This : Jante_Law Insistence that since we have it so good in our country, you don't get to complain. Too much of the workforce tied up in public jobs. Old population that is going to suck dry the oil fund in no time, and not enough effort put into what we are going to live on after the oil is gone. Too many asylum seekers compared to what we can handle. Mention this and you're obviously racist But we're good at winter sports I guess

We used to have (can't say for now, it's been years since I finished high school) very high level of education and at the same time very bad teachers and system and absolutely no way for intelligent, exceptional people to spread their wings as they are held back. All such people I knew that were successful dropped their education and went on to try and fulfill their dreams without it. All the rest struggled or still struggles with morons teaching at universities (getting to it later), more than often in the fields they're not really interested in, just to get ANY degree/paper which is required to have any kind of decent job. What's wrong with many universities: people are hired there not on the merit of their work/science but rather on the basis of 'who knows who' and 'who can pull the strings'. That's why I have to pass some stupid exams with people who do have their doctors degree, but the last publication they made was in 1983... It's seriously flawed...

What I hate about America is that everyone talks about Jefferson, Washington, and Adams, as though they are the founders of the American intellectual tradition; this notion is incorrect.

I have heard consumption of alcohol to be the cardinal virtue of the following nations: Germany, Czech Republic, Russia, Poland, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, UK, Denmark. However, there is some falseness of voice in excoriating this thing. Saying that your country drinks too much is as much a boast as a derision in every context I've heard. In Europe there seems to be some claim to social standing based on the amount you can drink. dont know how trusty this site is but its says: Luxembourg, where residents pound down 15.5 liters of alcohol in a year, on average, ranks first. Close behind are France (14.2 liters), Ireland (also 14.2 liters, a lot more of it from beer), Hungary (12 liters) and the Czech Republic (11.8 liters). http://www.forbes.com/2007/11/27/drinking-europe-alcohol-biz-commerce-cx_tvr_1128drinking.html

That's why I have to pass some stupid exams with people who do have their doctors degree, but the last publication they made was in 1983... It's seriously flawed... Totally agree with this. I would add also a few other things that make me annoying: 1. Church has way too much power and they keep getting involved into politics. "Vote for him as he is a good catholic" shit going on almost every election. 2. We have no good politicians. All of them are so bad it is beyond imagination. You have to vote for lesser evil if you feel like voting at all. 3. Division into "good" patriots who are catholic and "bad" people who do not support all that madness. 4. Out super nationalistic right-wing party, PiS (or Law and Justice) is really socialistic. However, their claim they are anti-socialists. 5. Lots of people think that liberal economics or as a matter of fact capitalism is bad and root of all evil. 6. I hate as the past is still used in politics. Half the news is about who was an undercovered communist agent and who wasn't. Noone is looking at the real credential of politicians, if they are educated or capable of governing the country, rather everyone looks if they were fighting against communism which collapsed 20 years ago. As if the fact that someone was a leader of the resistance movement makes him immediately qualified to get a top spot in government. 7. Our football association is corrupted and full of old jerks who have no education except for primary school or at most high school and they keep their jobs because they support each other. As a result football in Poland sucks so badly I can't even watch it right now. 8. No one encourages hard work. If you are hard-worker you are called "kujon" (a nerd but who is not very intelligent and he has to study more than average person to get a good grade). And everyone is "talented but lazy". 9. Most of the people think that our education is top notch and make fun of American universities. But they forget that our best university is ranked around 400-500 in the world. We have almost no good scientist working in our country at universities. And Manit0u explains well why it is. There are many more but this should be enough for now.
