The result of several months of work is the biggest panoramic photograph of the world; a 613,376-pixel wide by 181,248-pixel high photograph, consisting of 9,750 images, taken at an altitude of 60 meters from the highest platform of Torre Schindler, in Isla de la Cartuja. Just as a matter of interest, if we printed this image, it would take up to 13,800 square meters, which is more than two football stadiums.
Here is a site that I found that shows off a 111 gigapixel camera taking pictures of the surrounding view and it is absolutely stunning at HOW MUCH detail there is in the picture. You can literally zoom in and see someone holding a pen from so far away it really feels like Superpower Vision or something, Hell I even saw a house on fire. It makes me wonder how much longer until this type of technology is in our cellphones/digital cameras.
That is amazing. I had a lot of fun snooping around lol. If you look at the 3 guys fishing at the river, one of them just hit the jackpot. Theres like 20 fish fighting over his bait.
This is almost more a mesh of a video, the zoom is impressive but the sheer amount of time it takes for the camera to record all the image causes very noticeable shadow movement which reduces the whole impression for me.
I used to think I was safe walking around naked after I shower because I'm too lazy to put on clothes. Now I'm not so sure..
On a serious note, pretty scary how good technology is getting like this. I seriously can't go or walk anywhere these days without accidently ending up in peoples photos / videos (randomly filming on the street or outside shops etc.). It's really starting to bother me Anyone else have the same feeling? ~~;
Lol this is insane, also i found a liscence plate they didn't blurr out. The thing is you wouldn't expect anyone to be able to make out a liscence plate that far away lol. This pic is insane Lol just found a crack on a window from a building really far away. Wtb 111 gigapixel camera lolz. haha if you look at the orange building slightly to the left of the start position near the repsol station you can see an ad for superinventos that if you click you go to their site. Nice publicity lol.
That's sick. That reminds me when I tell my wife her favorite TV series is bullshit when FBI zooms in to death on the eye of a victim on a cctv record and see the murderer's face in the eye's reflection.

Yeah I just read the about section just now, I was too psyched to look at anything else. Mods please change
No biggie, it was just common sense that flagged it for me, since current state of the art cameras are pushing 100 megapixels these days, thats still 3 orders of magnitude smaller than 100 gigapixels.
My last nitpick is that about 50 gigapixels in the image are of sky and green water, so for the most part thats wasted resolution.
Its a very neat composite though, thanks for sharing.

No those are just blurry artifacts in its most zoomed up shots. The camera they used isn't THAT special or anything, has a good lens, but is taking 10 megapixel shots. Likely using an automated telescope control and automated shutter control. Then its just a matter of writing a script to compile the images, and hours of cpu time to merge them into a coherent state.
This is just an image generated by digitally stitching Over 9000 images together (9,750 as it says on their website). But what it does present is the potential for unlimited resolution.
I'm scared of this. The amount of detail by one more advance reduces privacy by an equal amount. That said, there is no way to stop surveillant technology nor should there be. (I know its a camera but you could say every bigger car made is a better battering ram or flamethrowers make excellent charcoal grill starters- Its all perspective and application. One man would buy a 111gigapixel camera for his family albums and the another would take pictures of you undressing from a kilometer away)

This must be the dumbest post I've ever read on TL.

I'm not even sure what to think.. That's a very interesting analogy, I applaud you. I would never have come up with it.

Amazing technology, wonder how big the camera itself is?
As has already been stated a few times, this is just a "regular" camera (obviously still a very high tier camera though) placed in some sort of device that will systematically take pictures so they fit together, which took close to 10k pictures, and then used a computerprogramz to fit it all together.
Whenever I see one of these I think "cool" and then spend 5 minutes looking at it. They should really hide a bunch of easter eggs in there and make a game out of it.
Awesome, reminds me of spy plane photos that are so detailed that you can see people's shoelaces... I can't imagine it'll be long before this type of technology is everywhere.
In the top of the gothic looking tower on the left side of the photo there's someone else taking a picture of the horizon as well! And in the huge superdome looking building to the right there's a lady outside =o wow the level of detail is insane
This is not a single pictures taken with some ridiculous camera... it is a composite image of many photographs.

...Is it sad that to me that is the most obvious if not best use for this sort of tech? I saw that image, zoomed in all the way, sent my brother a link to it and asked him if he could find the man biking his dog.

I think the game would be "I Spy", instead of "Where's Waldo?"

whats next, government chips in all the cell phones?
It's a composition of a lot of pictures, not a single picture... Read the thread...
Man, that image is ridiculous. I could spend hours and hours just looking at random stuff. It's pretty crazy what you can find.
Does that parking lot really charge 85,74€ for [6] hours? The 6 hours is a guess, it's kinda covered by shrubbery. The parking lot in question is behind the weird building with the rooftop garden that you can see on the left across the river. That's some expensive parking!
Do you guys think that military satellites in space have this type of capability of detail? I mean we're probably leap years ahead the years of hubble.

I think the same people that did the Budapest picture are behind this one. Pretty neat stuff, I like how they had to blur out the license plates of the cars a few miles away because they were too easy to read.
mind = blown i wonder what that guy at the jobsite on right is looking at, his shoes? lol i saw a guy riding a bike, and he was wearing NIKE shoes. when i zoomed out, i whoa'ed

I remember when I was at the World Expo in Shanghai and the Japanese pavilion was showing off a camera by Canon that can do something like that but on a smaller scale with not as much detail.

Thanks? I'll admit I wrote that while extremely tired after staying up to watch GSL but I still stand by it. I might be wrong, and I in fact will not rigorously defend my opinion in this thread, but at least I gave my opinion and thoughts. And on the internet, thats all I have. I'm sorry for not measuring up to your standards. Please point me in the direction of where I can learn how to be eloquent and intelligent so we can avoid this kind of thing in the future.

This is indeed what interests me. Its a very impressive technological advance but I wonder if it will scale to an even greater amount in a decade (As you said). I wonder what the top of the line camera in 2001 could produce, a few gigapixals maybe?
thats awesome man!!! very impressive i must say it kinda scares me aswell if its available for private use now... how long did our goverments have it??
...You know you're a protoss player when you're reluctant to open this thread merely because its name begins with "111", even though this isn't even SC2 related >.>
