Keep it civil guys.

Alright I am sick of warning people: Trolling, flame baiting, and derailing will result in insta bans.
The same goes for conspiracy theorists and stupidity generally.

Confirmation was as follows
- On-site DNA test which came back as 99% positive.
- photos of face sent to CIA and confirmed with photo analysis
- confirmed by 20 year old wife who live in pakistan.

This thread is specifically dedicated to the details surrounding the raid/his death.

No, I think he has a good point. The effect of a martyr can become more powerful than the life of that person.

As true as that might be. I'd rather him be dead and be more powerful, than alive and just a figurehead.

Don't want to sound negative, but it took one of the most advanced and rich (arguably) nation in the world 10 years to find a single person.

Happy that he's dead, but damn...All that tax payer money and more importantly, human lives wasted in order to take him out.Maybe i'm wrong.

Most devastating attack on US soil in the history of the country. It's been almost a decade. The statement by the president gives closure to the nation.

How is it in anyway closure?
The supposed leader of Al Qaeda is dead the group isn't.
Isn't this just going to fuel them to do even more.

What is with the praise of Obama? its like he personally went and did i
Saying stuff like he won his second election and all that?
Doesn't everyone hate him and think he has done nothing for the country? But na he killed osama so we can let him run the country some more?

Not saying he is a bad president or anything. These are more questions on what you guys who have a much better understanding of how the US government works.

Average american is retardly stupid. It's like trying to play Mafia with a bunch of stupid towns people in SC2. Just because Osama died under Obama's watch means Obama = reason he died. This will definitely help his re-election. Not all the country hates him. Mostly just the right-wing nutjobs, same people who think he was born in Kenya and that 9/11 was an inside job.

Yea we all are totally blind and will open up borders and everything instead of what they are saying what will probably happen that security levels go up cause there maybe retaliation. Average americans are NOT retardly stupid. You could have used better words than that. Which leads me to believe that you have TROUBLE expressing yourself.

It does provide closure it provides closure on the Symbol of 9/11. When ever has america just killed the head of someone or a country we went to war with and just stopped lol. Sure didnt happen in iraq. Saddam is dead did we leave right after that? No. Please think first next time.

I said "retardly stupid" because 1/4 people thought Obama wasn't born in Hawaii. I think my point has some basis. I've just lost most of my faith in the majority of people. I alrdy said earlier that we will most likely get retaliation from this if anything.

I totally agree that he deserved to die etc and all that and this is a historic great day in the US and I'm excited.

To be fair, Osama was not a simple figurehead unless the movement has changed radically since when I researched it in 2008 or so. His speeches were a fantastic instrument for mobilizing the mujahideen in Afghanistan against the Soviets and later against the Americans and he had a massive amount of trust and credit in the radical movement in the Islamic world. Any response will be disorganized and fragmented, both of which greatly reduce the effectiveness of terrorist actions.

Rhetorically, the man was insanely skilled. He had some of the best speeches I've ever read and as far as I know they weren't ghost written. I always wonder what good he might have done had he not entered the fringe movement in Afghanistan...

Osama isn't going to become anymore popular due to his death.

His face is painted on the side of buildings already. Posters and fliers used to recruit people into the Taliban have been using Osama as their figurehead for years.

He already was a martyr. Now he's just dead -- not because he sacrificed himself but because someone shot him in the head while he was chilling out in a mansion, apparently.

It's in no way going to give the Taliban any positive publicity.

Watching CNN makes my head hurt. Osama is mostly just a figurehead, I doubt this will change anything. If it means we can finally get the fuck out of the middle east and start fixing shit back home then I will be happy, but I seriously doubt this will happen.

Not really that impressive, he basically got a free ride '03-'09

edit: As for the people saying this is being overblown.. you must understand this is going to give some closure to the nation (and more specifically the families of those directly affected by September 11th)

Personally I feel like we just cut the head off the beast

Thats enough isnt it retribution? Why does there have to be more to it. It is what it is and most americans know that. Look at it for what it is. Dont overcomplicate it.

Because unless we start pulling out, which has been promised over and over the last 5 years, it is not that significant?

This is true, in fact one can learn a great deal about the power of Osama bin Laden from Ahmed Rashid's Taliban and subsequent Descent into Chaos.
