It's very common on the web. In fact in the past few weeks, there's been a lot of it on TL.net (only forums I frequent, but I imagine it comes with the territory). And the reason it seems stupid to you is because it IS stupid. Which is why everyone's called him on it. I mean, let's think of a more perfect fabrication than a story which he tells in such a way as to point out his girlfriend (a favorite on forums!), the 1337 fast and the furious street races he went to, how fast he can drive, how he says "fuck the police" and gets in a fucking high-speed chase, how he runs a bunch of red lights, and how he gets off basically scot-free. It's a little tough to swallow. I thought at the end we might hear that he yelled "Say Hello to my Little Friend!!" and started gunning people down. And in case anyone has the wrong idea, I have absolutely no trouble believing that the cops would take $20 in Mexico or a lot of other countries. That's not the problem. In fact, it's the single most believable thing in the story. As Gandalf and other said, the reasons people have issues with it are 1) ridiculously cliched and hard to believe and 2) if it is true, unbelievably ignorant and dangerous, and at the least worthy of prison time. | ||
