As just one example, Anbar is in danger of falling in Iraq because the Shiite-led Iraqi government does not want to arm Sunni tribes who may oppose ISIS. Basically, I do not see ISIS disappearing any time soon unless a foreign power (ie the US) decides to invade with ground troops. From all reports, other regional allies won't do it unless Obama caves on some of their other demands. One big holdup is apparently Obama's ambition to strike a big diplomatic deal with Tehran, which most of America's allies do not want. When did Israel and Saudi Arabia become 'most of America's allies' ? Or were you speaking about regional powers that exploits America's ignorance for their own benefit?

Turkey and Saudi Arabia are the only allies who might send ground troops to fight ISIS and who have the capacity to win. Neither likes Iran. Our European friends will be useless as usual. They cannot even sort out the mess that they created in Libya.

There has been a lot of talk about alleged cooperation between Turkish intelligence and ISIS, not to mention that tons of ISIS fighters are actually recruited in Turkey and can pass the border without any problems. Turkey is mostly backing ISIS as a proxy to fight against Assad. It's larger goal is to reestablish its influence in the Middle East. Turkey would turn on ISIS if provided the right incentives.

I don't know why you think it is so obvious that Saudi Arabia and Turkey need to be the Western Allies. The historical track record of instrumentalizing Wahhabi/Salafist fanatics against geopolitical opponents is fucking atrocious. I'm not saying that they "need" to be allies. I'm just laying out the possibilities for how to actually deal with ISIS presuming that we are not content with a scenario in which ISIS actually emerges as a Middle Eastern power (which is its current trajectory). Unless the US wants to go deal with ISIS itself, it's going to have to buy off someone else to deal with it, which Obama has been unwilling to do.

Its an M-rated game, and is way more serious and thought-intensive game than CoD or whatever garbage kids play. Saying its being used to train kids to join ISIS is just about as dumb as the people saying Doom caused Columbine. In fact, the mod's author made the mod so he could shoot at ISIS, not play as them.

Also we'll probably have to live with Assad for the moment. At least fighting Assad and IS doesn't make any sense. anti israel on global anti us on global anti sunni in iraq anti turk, historically, maybe even nemesis. anti kurd in their own soil. list goes on, they could not do more to destroy iraq with their sectarian puppets.
