Thread is about the various issues surrounding Japan in the aftermath of the recent earthquake. Don't bring the shit side of the internet to the thread, and post with the realization that this thread is very important, and very real, to your fellow members.
Do not post speculative and unconfirmed news you saw on TV or anywhere else. Generally the more dramatic it sounds the less likely it's true. |

This is sad.
But this picture is not from this earthquake and this is not Tsunami.

I was watching the stream of a featured SC2 player (I won't give names) when the news came in about the earthquake. The streamer and a friend of his were talking on Vent/Skype about the quake along the lines of:
+ Dude, did you see what happened to Japan? - Seriously dude, cya Naruto! + Yeah, there won't be Naruto episode for months I bet!
This mockery went on for a while, and during that while I was ashamed of being a part of this community. It is amazing how the "professionals" who are supposed to bring esports into the mainstream can be so (insert the right word here). That's terrible. Absolutely terrible. Some people are so insensitive.
This thread is not a place for you to display your good character. Posts like yours will only create arguing that is not on topic.

That sounds great. Missing down into the hundreds and still only a couple of hundreds reported dead? That sounds unlikely but if it's true then it's amazing.

I think conspiracy theories should be kept out of this thread. It's garbage and does nothing but mock the victims of this very dramatic incident.

I really don't like how some reports are like ''100 000+ dead, AAAAHHHHHH'' and some are like ''180 missing''. Makes me nervous as fuck.
It's of course a horrible and huge disaster no matter what, and not just due to the lives lost, but I don't like still feeling completely clueless about the whole situation.

Wait, someone just made a comment at my office about the west coast US maybe getting some of the aftermath from this?
I'm inclined to believe they are bullshitting but I dunno much about anything other than tornadoes and hurricanes as an East-coaster.
Edit: just heard about the Oregon / Washington stuff.
Now I'm in panic mode as my girlfriend is living west of Seattle at the moment with her really sick mother.

You have nothing to worry about. They are only expecting waves from 2-6ft.

US media seems to be reporting much lower figures. Just heard on tv "173 dead." I find this number suspect. I don't see how we could have such a precise figure so soon. Well, my countries media has a history of unreliability so...
For people with family on the west coast of the USA, don't worry. Tsunami waves resulting from this incident are expected to be less than 5 feet high. Keep in mind that the waves had to travel all the way across the Pacific Ocean to get here...

This is crazy. Japan is one of the most prepared nations, though.
It shouldn't be bad in the US west coast but a few over curious people trying to watch might still be killed.

Those numbers are "confirmed dead", ones that are known to have died. That number is closer to 300 now, but the number of missing is still near 6 digits.

This is so terrible. Japan is a good country. The economies around the world will be in shambles. I hope the best for them but this is not promising at all.

Yeah, hate to say it but if it was going to happen to someone I'm glad that it's Japan over any other place. They are the most prepared and the losses in any other area would have been way larger... (glad probably isn't the right word, but I hope you know what I mean)

I just happy Mani and the other Japaneses TL'ers and their family's are alright. Stay safe guys.

Yay for being warned for posting that you pray everyone who is involved in the earthquake is safe.
I wonder how long this will continue..Looks there could be even more damage the upcoming days.

Newest report from the BBC live feed: "1659: Kyodo also reports that the death toll from the earthquake has been revised down by police from 137 to 133. Another 531 people are missing." "1703: The death toll from the earthquake and tsunami is expected to exceed 1,000, Kyodo adds."
