I recently posted this as a blog on GOSUTrolling.com. I figured I'd just post the whole thing here, as there are certainly more top notch sleuths (read: Stalkers) regularly reading Teamliquid than there are my website. I really think we can, with collective effort, beat iNcontrol to the punch on the big announcement.
Geoff 'iNcontrol' Robinson has been teasing our dicks for the last two months, repeating over and over that he'll soon have some huge news to share. He's been promising us, his adoring fans, almost daily that the announcement is right around the corner.
Here we are, though, still with no scoop. We're still thirsty, still begging Geoff for a sip from that sweet tit of sacred knowledge. It's downright shameful. I wake up every morning and eagerly check twitter, Teamliquid, and /r/starcraft, hoping that it's the day that we're enlightened.
The day of enlightenment isn't coming as soon as I'd like.
I think it's time we move forward and take matters into our own hands. I love iNcontrol as much as I can love a man who I've never met. I've been trying to count on him. Maybe this is something we need to do for ourselves.
I think there have been enough clues and hints for us to start speculating and investigating this on our own. I have a theory that I've already put together, and I imagine with your help and revisions we can get pretty close to cracking this caper.
My theory:
Geoff 'iNcontrol' Robinson and Andre 'Gretorp' Hengchua will be casting and helping to organize a chain of North American Starcraft 2 tournaments sponsored by Intel that will take place in Los Angeles.
In terms of scale, I think it might be appropriate to consider this the American version of the GSL.
The evidence:
I can't find the source now, as I can't remember if it was an interview or SoTG, but iNcontrol remarked somewhere that his announcement was perhaps the biggest news in Western eSports history.
January 30th, iNcontrol tweets: "back home back to work.. cali next weekend and onward! Why would I move to cali you ask? hmmm I dunno.. wait and see " January 31st, iNcontrol tweets: "Having one of those days where everyone asks something of you and it gets overwhelming. It's great being me but sometimes it is exhausting." January 31st, Gretorp tweets: "packing for the better :-)" February 4th, iNcontrol tweets: "Heading over to Intel this morning to act like a celebrity... I love my life " February 4th, iNcontrol tweets: "I am exhausted. Full day of travel... bit sad I am moving soon Love my Portland. Excited for the future though." February 5th, iNcontrol tweets: "Alright packing up. next stop, Cali!" February 7th, Gretorp tweets: "California is as beautiful as @88incontrol"
We know for certain from iNcontrol's January 31st tweet that he's been extremely busy lately. We know for certain from Gretorp's January 31st tweet that Gretorp moved. This hasn't been talked about a lot, but it is a key piece to the puzzle. We know for certain that on February 4th that iNcontrol traveled quite a bit and visited an Intel office. Although EG is sponsored by Intel, I can't imagine iNcontrol being sent in just to shake hands with some Intel staff. It sounds like iNcontrol's visit might have been for business. We know for certain that iNcontrol moved to California on February 5th. I feel like we can infer that Gretorp is in California and has seen iNcontrol from Gretorp's February 7th tweet.
It is really plausible to think that both iNcontrol and Gretorp uprooted themselves and moved to California at the same time for unrelated reasons? That seems like a bit of a stretch to me. iNcontrol also noted via twitter that he's been extremely busy as of late. Considering he's so busy with his move and this yet to announced news, do you think he'd have the time to stroll down to an Intel office just to shake hands and sign some autographs? It might make more sense think about that trip to Intel as a business trip. What business would Intel have iNcontrol, a professional Starcraft player? Starcraft business, of course. What kinds of Starcraft business are there?
One kind. The Starcraft tournament/event kind.
That said, I go back to my original theory: I think that Intel will be sponsoring Starcraft 2 events of monstrous scale, with iNcontrol and Gretorp casting.
I guess the cat is out of the bag now. I can confirm that Intel is sponsoring a tournament called the Intel Extreme i7 Excellence Tournament Series of Tournaments. The series will be held every month and 1st prize will be 20 i7s (paid over a period of 20 years).
You are forgetting that iNcontrol is a master of misderection. We must meet all tweets with extreme prejudice and consider any posts on tl hostile. Gretorp and Day9 and anyone from EG are also compromised. Is there anyone in the Cali area that can go snoop around Intel or mix up a protein shake to draw iNcontrol out???

At first my heart stoped then i just frowned
Also remeber JP knows what the announcment is...He is the key to all of this!! Someone needs to interrogate him >
Day9's been quiet on the issue as far as I know, does anyone know if he has anything to do with this announcement? If they've moved to California, most likely LA, it would be odd if he wasn't involved somehow.
Crossing my fingers for an American GSL scale tournament. Giddy.

Actually, iNcontrol has teased about something to do with the "number 9."
The insanity thickens. Let's hope that this is as big as they are teasing. Let's hope that we are not being trolled.
I for one look forward to possibly seeing a televised US GSL tournament casted by Gretorp, iNcontrol, Day9 and friends. Let's hope whatever comes is at least as awesome as that.
I think it's going to be a brothel where nerdy women can get a piece of iNcontroL, Gretorp, and other handsome nerds. Anna will be the madame and run the place after her Miss Oregon responsibilities end. =)

I think you're predictions are pretty close, i guessing it'll be televised based on how big th announcement is meant to be but i heard someone mentioning justin.tv as well. also lol @ TLOs response and 9inches.
I have it on good authority that the OP is correct in that it has to do with Intel, but is wrong on all other accounts. Gretorp and iNcontrol will actually be building a physical sandy bridge from LA to Busan, as part of Intel's promos for its new processor line.
My first thought was actually an american EG-house where EG-players could train and live together.. Thinking about it, that makes very little sense, since there would be no returning events with small enough interval to make that a good idea.. The tournament sounds pretty sweet! I would love to see that - Day9 of course moving to L.A. to do the casting every tournament since he's soon to be graduated.. The plot(t) thickens!

First of all, I hope it's something amazing. If the things I've read about in the thread is true then I hope he hasn't oversold it.
Secondly, I apologize for asking this since it doesn't have anything to do with the thread, but I really have to know, or I wont be able to sleep tonight. The picture in your post is from facebook, right? (I don't use it myself). And you, the poster, is from the US. Why is the things in the picture as timestamps and the 'like' button in Swedish? Is it some sort of dynamic picture? Driving me insane.

Oh, also does anybody remember that SotG a while back when JP and InC were talking about the announcement? JP figured it out somehow and didn't think it was all that big.
Obviously it's not that important if he doesn't want to tell us. Just ignore the teasing, and once people stop flipping shit over nothing, maybe he'll tell us.
Well played evoli, you just solved the puzzle. Now, about that date:
Today, 7th of Feb, 4 hours ago, he tweeted this: "I'm working on something as we speak. What If I told you guys you will be informed within the week? What if it was a few days? It's coming.."
Also, he tweeted "yda fo eraelsd 'tsi ...gimocn" a few minutes ago. Wich is an anagram for "The day of release... it's coming"
On the 9th of february iNcontroL will announce it.

Geoff, you're being a real douche by putting us on edge like this.. WSL or ASL - American/Western Starcraft League.. In which case the GSL would have to be renamed KSL, Korean Starcraft League..
Blerh, my brain hurts by thinking about it and not knowing exactly.. Geoff, at this point you could make a whole lot of people disapoint if this turns out 'just' to be the creation of a new team or something
Now that I think about it, all this hype from IncontroL is probably to go to his sponsors to be like "Look what happens when we only give clues as to a few people moving. Now imagine what happens if we announce that the prizepool has more than the TSL3 and stop there. Wait a few more days, then announce a few more details."
I'm expecting something like this, or an epic video.
I know the title is vague but I feel like something really really big is about to happen. As some of you who might follow State of the Game or Live On Three know, Geoff "iNcontroL" Robinson was recently asked about plans on Korea, where he hinted that those plans have died down a bit because there could be potential for an even bigger announcement coming up, that might involve moving to Southern California.
Along with that, news has shown up recently that Gretorp, the Gosucoaching commentator and FnaticMSI player, is also moving across the country from New Jersey to, you guessed it, Southern California.
Moreover, Gosucoaching and EG player Machine has also stated that he has had to make the drive from the EG house in Arizona, up to California once again.
"Off to California once again, starting to really really hate this drive xD" "Going to meet up with some friends while i'm in CA and going to meet up with Russell so we can talk about Gosucoaching."
Something definitely seems to be going on related to gosucoaching or these players or some large sponsor. Keep in mind that G4TV recently was all over coverage of the EG Masters Cup, and has been involving themselves in several different esports related to SC2 as well as the fighting game community, etc. Going to Los Angeles is no joke, this is the home to hollywood and production content coming out. I don't think it'd be a stretch to say that this could be one of the reasons for LA being a mentioned location.
In the Weapon of Choice show that iNcontroL called in, he said "Part of the reason I can't give a straight answer on that is that theres this other thing I'm doing thats actually so freaking big it could eclipse that, I'm moving to California in February, we're in talks with people who are with Daniel Negreanu [Professional Poker player]. We have big freaking stuff coming out."
This is all after talking about sponsors throwing 25,000 dollars at events and stuff.
Something big is about to happen in Starcraft 2 guys, I'm sure iNcontroL won't be able to comment on any more specifics than this, but this is just the information that I've gathered and thrown together in the past 25 minutes. I recognize the fact that all this stuff I'm throwing together will not all be related to the announcement that is sure to come, theres no way that anybody can get lucky enough to link this much stuff but even if 2-3 of these facts link together with some gigantic event or production coming up, we all HAVE to be excited.
Anybody else have any thoughts on what could be going on? I'm hoping that this thread could be up for discussing this up until an official announcement is actually made. So this is a rumor thread of sorts I suppose.

the first reply by TLO is just funny :D
iNcontrol just made so many announcements, i'm kinda excited what exactly it's gonna be...
I'm kinda torn on whether this had been hyped to much, and now won't be as epic as everyone imagines- or if it will be amazingly awesome still. I mean by this point, everyone knows that it's a big Starcraft tournament/league, so I think they've kind of lost a bit of their bang.

True. The hype is so much that unless its a monthly tournament with 50k+ prize pool or news that starcraft 2 tournaments are going to be televised then I'm kind of going to be disappointed lol
It wouldn't make sense to be a team house, incontrol and gretorp? They're not even on the same team. Meanwhile theres already a house that has previously housed 3 EG players.
I read his last tweet as day of leaders, its coming instead of dealers. So my guess is we will find out on the 21st, the 3rd monday in February. Day of leaders = Washington's Birthday = 3rd monday in Febuary. I dunno, well see.
WAIT BUT TASTEOSIS IS IN KOREA NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
I'm gonna throw out a crazy guess here and say Intel is willing to front money for a SC2 GSL style tournament to be hosted on a cable access network, my first guess being ESPN 2. I dunno, maybe I'm just crazy, but then again ESPN has thrown a bone out to some very peculiar "sports" in the past.

I think you should settle down a little bit or you're just going to be disappointed.
Esports needs to take one step at a time. I don't think we're going to be going from "Hey, wow, MLG prize is $5000 for StarCraft 2!" to "StarCraft 2 is on ESPN2 in every household in America" in just a couple weeks.

Well, ESPN 2 has been known for showing scrabble, billiards, poker, chess, logging, extreme sports, and many other forms of alternative sports during the weekends, so it can't be discounted. That's my opinion of course. :D. I do agree though that it would be a huge step forward, maybe too big of a step, but if you think about it in terms of a marketing campaign for Intel, they front cash for the tournament and for slot times, and have the potential to make their money back. Being able to expand your ad time into an untouched market, (that being sports channels), could be profitable, who knows..

They need to form a viable viewer base before such a thing can happen. The fanbase and demand for SC2 on ESPN or any channel in NA (besides maybe G4) is essentially nonexistent.

Tasteless isn't a player, and none of the signs would point towards that, I mean hell, incontrol and gretorp aren't moving to LA after all these insane announcements so that EG can sign a player. But yeah Tasteless is more of a manager, and if you include him on the list then Colbi would technically be on the list too.

This is it. Everything fits. This makes so much sense that it has to be it. The problem with the theory of the SC2 tournament is that the whole Daniel Negranu thing that Inc mentioned on Weapon of Choice doesn't fit with that theory.
after listening to SToG last week, i feel like its a big north american GSL equivalent tourney, ie. more than just a weekend tourney like MLG. as far as the 9th thing goes though, based on InControl and IdrA's comments, I would say that they are going to make the announcement on the 9th, so maybe they break the news a few hours early on SToG, lets hope!
Whatever this is, I think they have to know that they are hyping it up to a ridiculous height. It would literally have to be one of the biggest announcements in Western E-Sports to date to live up to everyone's expectations. I don't put it past these guys to have done something really, really awesome.
Almost certain that the number 9 refers to Day[9]; which, if it is a tournament, probably means that he will be the caster. I think this would be the most logical choice on the planet for a huge western tournament to make. Sean is THE guy in SC2 right now, and he is probably the most dedicated man on a mission I've ever seen.

I dont know why you would assume it would be like that?
Heres a few concepts for a reality show around SC that could work.
1) The thing I mentioned earlier, teaching Daniel Negranu to play SC2. Sure its not what we're all hoping for - but all of us would watch it.
2) Take a few top players and follow them as they train AND travel to tournaments (then add in alot of fake drama as they do in all other reality shows. One week someone's girlfriend wants him to quit gaming, next week another player is considering qutting the game etc. Always a sidestory or two per episode.
3) They partner up with MLG - and follow some of the key players/persons around it. Like day9, JP, InControl, tyler and other likeable guys.
4) Create a new tournament, keep the results hidden from the public. full casted games. not really a reality TV concept, but in order for the casual viewers to care about the players they would need to have some type of RealityTVesque segments.
Didn't JP say on SoTG that he didn't think the reveal (which he has been told) wasn't that big of a deal? Or that he thought incontrol was blowing it out of proportion?
2) Take a few top players and follow them as they train AND travel to tournaments (then add in alot of fake drama as they do in all other reality shows. One week someone's girlfriend wants him to quit gaming, next week another player is considering qutting the game etc. Always a sidestory or two per episode.

most boring reality show ever.. put all the star players in one house, big brother cameras in all corners of the rooms, and watch them wake up at 8am every day, grab some cereal, head back to the computer and stare at a crt moniter for 7 hours. grab lunch and back to the computer. oh its 2 am in the morning, walk 4 feet to bed and fall asleep. repeat 6 days a week. umm yeah...

last i talked to him, he said (here @ 11:10ish) it was worth the hype.
And don't be so sure about 50 states as much as 50,000 dollar 1st place prize, since it is Intel, and he was saying it'd rival GSL (technically 50k pretax is more than the current GSL, although taxes rape that since GSL prize money is straight no tax). And he was talking aobut it rivaling GSL before MLG's 50k announcement.

This is it. Everything fits. This makes so much sense that it has to be it. The problem with the theory of the SC2 tournament is that the whole Daniel Negranu thing that Inc mentioned on Weapon of Choice doesn't fit with that theory.
But with this theory everything fits.
Problem is, everything that we've pooled so far will NOT ALL be related to the announcement.
The fact that everything fits means none of it fits. Theres no way that this will be the announcement.

Now it is clear, anagram of JOIN RAID, so the announcement is that Incontrol is going to quit SC2 and start playing WoW fulltime.
It is a Starcraft 2 LEAGUE rather than tournament although it will of course build up to tournaments. There will also be said role models involved and I spose you can say "teaching" us noobs. I cannot reveal to you the specific that would be rude.

You seriously have to give us something to go with this, otherwise this obviously very sophisticated cipher will not gain the attention it deserves, and your genius will be under appreciated.
Dear incontrol. I think I'm past the point of caring how good the announcement is anymore. All I know is you could promote a dog turd and make it seem amazing. I'm so hyped I don't want to sleep :-(
I bet it's gonna be the very first 7 digit starcraft tournament on planet earth aswell as the first-ever televised starcraft 2 tournament in the western world. 9 obv refers to february 9th, wich is gonna be reveal-day. Additionally, a starcraft 2 plattform is gonna be announced, similar to all the poker platforms, allowing people to conveniently bet their money on their skill and therefore enhance the playing-experience.
So Chris Moneymaker is sponsoring a big Tournament in NA (California), Jinro and Idra are attending, it's gonna be in April because there is no GSL (I think).
Guys just making it up. You don't think Geoff just feeds off the attention?
He's probably just scrambling to slap together some half baked announcement, so you don't all write him off forever as the self indulgent snake oil salesmen of SC2.
I really hope its something but- well, I'm a skeptic by nature. Prove me wrong mr.Perfect.
geoffs just being cruel lol. "his name is chris..." i would laugh if huk joined EG and idra had to be nice to him from then on so not gonna happen though. "there will be 50" i don't get this one, the language doesn't sound right for him to be talking about money and its an odd number for people in a tournament. a match in every state sounds too many matches and not centred enough on California to explain the move, a qualifier from each state wouldn't exactly make for a fun tournament... i still think i'll stick to my prediction though
Y'all gotta learn patience. Whatever it is it's coming and no amount of stressing on your parts is gonna change that. Put it to the back of your minds...and just be chillin'.
Haha so funny. A big bubble is coming to explode tomorrow, and we will all witness what is inside, the source of the hype : a pair of muscle with a big troll face.

well it has to be big, hyping and then not delivering gives incontrol a bad reputation, which i guess he does not give a sh.. about, but in the end he is representing eg.
if it is a gsl like tournament you havent overhyped it (yet)
either way <3 incontrol for making my life worthwhile, i have something to wait for and yeah you're right about them horses
I think your right its been slipped in the gosu coaching 4 too, There was a comment Ret made which aligned iNcontrol with a new tournament event coming up, it was swiftly bypassed. It'd be a little funny if everyone agreed to ignore the tournament to payback the months of cock teasing. (I know that wont happen but god it'd be sweet day to see 11 year olds randoms turning up)

Honestly, I'd be fine with that, so long as it doesn't sacrifice gameplay for TV (such as Counterstrike being shortened from the standard 30 rounds) and is very specific to SC2. Also, accessible to everyone- not directTV where 90% of people don't have it.
The CPL was bought not so long ago and was a powerhouse in it's day, maybe it's not far-fetched for it to come back. Timing seems right, and they are posting SC2 news on the news feed.
Actually, I hope it's not a GSL like tournament. That'd almost imply a total Korea-Rest of the World scission. We really need a GLOBAL StarCraft II League.

It might actually be the GSL foreigner tournaments....
JP asks Ret about players coming back from Korea to play in home grown events like MLG... Ret replies with "yea definitely with the way sc2 is going and when big events start up like MLG and big events in Europe and this secretive thing iNcontrol will announce this month" that to me implies iNcontrol doing a note worthy event set to rival MGL? :-]

lol@ incontrol typing (flaming) in the background :D
This is really getting some attention from the press.
Quoting this because it hasn't gotten nearly as much attention as it deserves. Bravo.
Put me in with the GSL style tournaments in America camp that might be televised on some network. I really can't think of any other reason why they would move to California. Some of the other ideas (reality show, etc.) just don't seem big enough to me to justify the hype IMO. At least we'll know soon enough .

Not everyone can go to Korea. Also, for being able to compete in Korea, you need a great competitive scene both in the US and in Europe. Being the best in Europe wouldn't be of much value if the scene behind was quite weak. Therefore, a strong "western" community where talented players can really prove themselves only improves the chances of having more foreigners being able to compete in GSL.

This was actually my first thought when he said people were moving towards LA on SotG.
The only other option is that they're going to base their US house out of LA for easier flights to Korea, but that actually doesn't make too much sense even though it wouldn't be a poor idea, but they might as well then just have a house in Korea since you really can't afford to travel back and forth in between rounds anyways.

The first line APRIL 5th 2010. What happened that day? Can someone remember?
Then 4 4, alphabet DD - D Day. 1944 also the year of the D Day.
2101 = 2 + 101 (5) = 25.
So it has to do with something that happened on april last year, and it is going to happen in the 25th?
Well, it could also be base3, so 2101 = 1 * 1, 0 * 3, 1 * 9, 2 * 27 = 64 000100 is a wierd combination for binary, usually you see either 4 or 8 digits, not 6. This could also be base3, meaning 9. Though the 05 is wierd, why the 0? could be base6, in that case the first line would be 36 5 6.
We have a total number of 16 digits with a maximum number of 5. The numbers are not ASCII values. There is no context to the numbers, they might not even be in the correct order.
Well, it's not possible to decode this without more imformation or knowledge about incontrols favourite crypto styles.

It's probably not random bullshit numbers but it could really be anything. After the announcement he could be like lol guys obviously 16 digits on 4 lines meant a 64-man tournament...

Indeed. We've had so many grand plans fail that standard policy regarding hype and preannouncements has always been to get them to do it first, then make a topic about it. Obviously Geoff knows this so he must have something pretty concrete in place.

If there was a prize pool more evenly distributed betweeen say 1-8th place it would attract a lot of Koreans and non Koreans. Its too hard to make a living off of GSL alone because unless you win it you don't get that much. A chance for a number of people to win a decent amount of money would make any new tournament super popular amongst pros. Could easily see them coming HERE to play
perhaps they'll be flying in 50 hobos to set fire to the GOM studio during which everybody will sing some gibberish "zero zero zero one zero zero - zero five - one zero ..."
Gives some nice time for theories to outgrow realities too.
Day[9] will be joining EG as a coach/promoter, and will be getting a full-time job casting intel's new ISL (International/intel, since global was taken) tournament which will occur every other month, and be a part of a new gaming network that will be made available online where viewers can buy commercial-free time, team swag, and intel products through on-screen popups.
Honestly though, after watching the GSTL last night on the heels of the superbowl, I feel far more comfortable saying that the edge of my seat saw more action, and several chat boxes saw a lot more spam during the first three or so oGs/IM games than Superbowl Sunday did.
If what iNcontrol is promoting/talk... not talking about is half as big as it sounds like it could be for e-sports, I'm super excited.

Ok, so he's hinted at "JINRO" "IDRA" and "chris," which is evidently HuK. They are the three winners of the three MLG events we've had so far, that's how they're connected at least.
Obviously "day of leaders" builds into this as well, now the only thing left to figure out is... what are they doing, and why is it important?
The only thing I'm -really- stuck on is the 50. Is it 50 states? 50 weekly tournaments in the next year with Christmas and Independence Day off? 50 players in a tournament doesn't make much sense unless they're doing group stages and a seeded tournament.
My initial guess is that MLG is partnering up with some community members (namely JP since he works with them anyway, Geoff, and Gretorp) to host some kind of recurring event. Obviously Geoff wouldn't have MOVED to California unless his physical presence was required. This of course also makes me think that he will be on screen at some point.
Gosucoaching could have a large deal of involvement as well, but that remains to be seen. Hell, Day[9], Husky, and HD could all be involved as well, since they're in California already but I don't think Husky and HD would be this good at keeping secrets.
Imagine, if we figure out some kind of code, and it leads to his awesome American GSL thing. Then Incontrol announces it and we think its American GSL but it turns out its something less than that. I would be depressed tt. I think instead of trying to figure it out and being wrong then over hyping yourself. Just enjoy the hype Incontrol is throwing on it and wait and see :D
why do i think that this will end up being the first ever North-american based progaming house? It's just a guess but that seems more in the realm of possibilities. An announcement as big as basically saying that an entire North-american league is being set up to rival MLG (let's be honest, MLG is the final boss in NA esports tournaments right now) seems way above the paygrade of one professional starcraft 2 player. A north-american EG / foreigner progaming house in California on the other hand seems like something that is very believable. Probably why Incontrol moved to California already, to set up the house and everything before the team moves in.

That is just my theory though.
I think your theory is pretty sound. Think the house is going to fill a dual purpose as being a player/coaching house and a launching pad/bootcamp house for players that plan to jump to Korea for a shot at GSL. A place they can train for however long before heading over. I'm 99% certain it's going to be a gosucoaching house sponsored by Intel.
If there is a tourney in the US big enough to warrent it, the koreans would just fly here anyway like they did for Blizzcon and win it. Unless they want to compete at the same time as a GSL, which would just totally split the SC2 community...
a house makes no sense because gretorp is from fnatic and incontrol is from EG, plus they already have a gaming house in arizona or something. Also a gaming house in the US brings no huge benefits because your in the US on the US server.

Why a house?Okay, first of they've all already moved to Cali and have to have some place to live, therefore house (lol get it). Secondly Intel has *tons* of money into esports, inculding being a sponsor of GSL/EG/everybody. I'm not sure it makes sense from a business perspective to leap into a continual tournament scenario vs both MLG and GSL. It's possible, just doesn't make much financial sense to leap in that hard when others already have plenty of infrastructure in place. What company really wants to make another multimillion dollar investment into something they've probably already put millions into. Granted a huge tournament would draw attention but there's already plenty of that.
Lastly, although a tournament is possible, unless it's scheduled continual thing and not some one off mass tournament it wouldn't require half the pro-gamers to locate into one area. Also to the other guy, it's always of benefit to have players under one roof. Back when I was a competitive gamer my team used to play another team all the time, and when we met up to bootcamp, talk, play, and live together for a few days our play was increased more than I can explain. Everything changed.
Also, Gretorp mentioned on coaching corner that as soon as his PC arrives in Cali he's going to start coaching. (Sidenote: I learned broodwar terran from watching Gretorp's old livestream, highly recommend him to anyone that can afford it). BAM gosucoaching house.
What if it's a TV series that does coaching, tournament coverage, etc? It could be an actual TV series on TV. I mean, theres a ton of Youtube casters in Cali too, so theres no shortage of people to cover the more casual content.

If it is indeed gosucoaching it goes beyond team boundries and your point is moot.
Anyway what BadWithNames said is my opinion as well, a tournament makes no sense at all. The only other real option where incontrol is so directly involved that he needs to:
1 move to california 2 arrange things himself
severely limits options basically only having the progaming house as a logical option left.
could be to do with the first MLG event, we have established the top line is the 5th of april 2010, if you add 4 to that you get the 9th add another 4 you get the 13th and for the 2101 if the 2 states the 101 is to the base 2 then 101 represents the number 5 and if you add 5 to the date you get the 18th of april 2010 which was one of the dates of the first MLG event for 2010
EDIT :made small mistakes with binary (silly me) but it still gives a date of the first mlg event of 2010.
Man I sincerely hope incontrol hasnt been teasing my dick for the last 2 months cos if he has I've felt nothing1!1

perhaps they are opening the EG team house in korea ?
Honestly It has to be something with a tournament or something along those lines as we know Incontrol has said hes moving to Cali for the "biggest western event in sc2 esports." I doubt a player house is the biggest event in western esports. He already denied that its going to be the Eg korea house as he already stated that its happening. So I think we can shut down the "opening a team house" discussions

NO Last weeks SotG, goto 1h 28m. JP asks Ret about international tournaments and Ret pretty much confirmed its gonna be a tournament that incontrol is gonna announce this month. You can also hear Incontrol typing (flaming lol) in the background. Meetings with Intel and stuff pretty obvious.
I strongly suggest you guys tune in to SOTG tonight. I will make it worth your while. Also why is totalbiscuit talking shit about me? lol less than 5 seconds ago via web

AWWWWWW SHIIIIIT.
I'm pumped.
I'm really looking forward to this. Although it's going to be at the very end of SoTG no doubt
Just hoping it's like the Star Trek reboot, where they hyped the shit out of it and then it was awesome... and not the Star Wars prequel, where they hyped the shit out of it and then it was Jar Jar.
p.s. putting my vote is as something involving Daniel Negreanu, although not necessarily as a player. He's hosted TV stuff before.

It couldn't have been EG related... Gretorp is on fnatic and he's just as involved in this as incontrol is, he's just being less ridiculous at hyping it.
I would be more excited then anything if it had to do with balancing the game and/or anything to do with making the game more exciting. As far as it goes, if it were a tournament or another progamer house (which i doubt it, because sir scoots has denied any involvement), I would be sorely disappointed.
Why do you ask? We already have enough money being thrown at the community and game. I just want the game to get better itself before even more is spent. I think Incontrol should just roll into Blizz HQ and tell them what to do.
Or perhaps an sc2 tournament where you have to play BW (achieve a certain rank on ladder or something, like TSL2) to get a spot.
On the pregame to SoTG he was speaking to Sundance and referred to MLG as a "great bimonthly tournament." That's a wierd word to use, I think it's another pointer towards a monthly tournament of some kind.
Damn. I hope he's not announcing his own organization of tournaments now. MLG's CEO just laid down the law, and knows how to run it. That is unless, of course, the announcement includes some venture capital company backing them with a boat load of cash.
And, this guy has dropped a ton of f-bombs all over Geoff. This could get dangerous.

Fuck wars, the more tournaments the better. Why would these guys ever try to make this a competition. If they're both serious about expanding e-sports here in North America, then the only clear way to do it is to work together, not have a tournament pissing contest.

Some huge ass toes could be stepped on. Competition can drive prize money and push popularity, or it could just push MLG to take out SC2.
And, by the way Sundance is speaking, it seems like this guy's first priority is to be profitable, not drive the growth of SC2.

That's probably true; it is more established. But, it's about profit. Look at it from his point as the CEO, a businessman, as if he couldn't care about SC2.

He doesn't, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's not like esports is some charity, it's founded upon business. Dude wants to make money, but that doesn't mean he won't end up making sc2 more popular anyway. Its like they said on SOTG, stop getting too serious about it.
They might have made a breakthrough in quantum physics and managed to make starcraft an alternate reality in wich we can experience being a marine firsthand without having to fear for our lives.
i think they are creating a 9 man gaming house and there is gona be a reality tv-show from the house and there is gona be a inhouse tournament. thats my 2 cents :D hehe theorycraft!
Pretty sure its gonna be a gaming house though... He slipped something at the end of SotG : in relation to his incontrolTV stream " .. there is gonna be streaming of in house practice ... "
A lot of the theories here are pretty awesome my 2 cents is that we will be seeing some sort of event/party with LAN! and something that the community will be involved in. Hey Geoff what part of CA are you guys in LA?
I am in the area if you guys need any help or assistance go ahead and let me know always down to help.
There's also been talk about there only being 3 people in blizzard's balance team, and that 3 pro gamers of each race are moving to the place where their HQ is.
I'm betting this is all a huge setup to bring Unc to cali under the guise of a sc tournament and propose to her, have an immediate wedding, and go on a hot air balloon race around the world starting from LA.
And I hope she reads this, and when it's just a sc tournament after all, incontrol's punishment for taunting us all this time will be his would-have-been bride's disappointed but not sad or angry look on her face for a few weeks. At which point he'll realize he made every nerd in the world happy but forgot the one person who truly mattered, but it will already be too late to save the relationship from a long, painful implosion. On his deathbed, after a life of starcraft and the loneliness of the love that could have been, he'll remind everyone of the really cool amazing announcement he's saving for the afterlife.
I'm sure whatever he's got cooked up will be worth it, though!

Extended series man.. MLG is the only starcraft tournament in the world that has their rules layed out by Halo, so Geoff ranted alot about it when the other MLG guy was over. The most memorable was "I will fucking smash you in arm wrestling. Do I really need a little kid punching you in the balls next time we meet?"
I'm pretty sure InC has confirmed several times that it is not the EG house hes talking about. IIRC he mentions it specifically, both in the pre-game show and the SoTG episode.
yeah he has come out and said only one thing: this announcement is not the EG house since that has already been announced, the timing of it however is unknown but it will happen according to EG

This doesn't make any sence whatsoever.. Incontrol moves to California, and hypes for like 2 months (even before the GSL games between them(?)) to cast a bo7 between Jinro and Idra? There's gotta be more.
Incontrol, Gretorp, and Day9 obviously got a job working at Blizzard as the new Balance and "esports" team leaders and will organize a new league backed by Blizzard and Intel. Also they will be releasing LAN for starcraft2, why else would they all move to Cali?

Wouldnt the first part be enough for them to move to cali? if they work in the blizzard office, they kinda have to be there, otherwise they have to drive cross country every morning. Especially day9 would probably be pretty awesome at balance, as he's probably the most careful guy in the world when it comes to that sort of stuff If day9 says something is OP, then it sure as hell is OP ^^

No that is the announcement of the announcement... Which means that on the day of leaders, JINRO and IDRA will play a showmatch before the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT.
That is not all. This showmatch is the coming out party. This will surely be a spectacle but it is only the beginning. At the conclusion of this showmatch a series of events will take place that will fully reveal all that I have been hyping. What is this big event? What exactly have I been working on? February 21st all questions will be answered. Until then you will just have to look forward to this showmatch and assume I am hyping something worth everyone's while!

This would be better than a televised league IMO. First make the game so much better than anything else that it's really worth televising.
The Jinro vs IdrA show match. It will be cast by iNcontroL and Gretorp. They'll have really high production values, do all the things they've mentioned should be done on sotg. They will have stories before the match about how they've faced each other off before, detailing both of them doing awesome at an MLG and GSL. Talking about when they played each other at GSL. There will be pre game interviews. It will be hyped up and done super professionally.
Next, the Bo7 (which will hopefully not go the way the GSL finals went). It will be cast really well by the two of them, and they'll have done a lot of preparation beforehand so that it all comes across like sports are cast on TV. Good analysis and good filler.
After the games they will announce that they are going to do a team league. Everyone will be like "holy shit this league will be awesome" because of how well the tournament was run and how well it came across.
Possibly Day9 (lives in cali) and maybe some others will be involved in the actual tournament casting when it comes. DJ wheat lives too far away I think, and works full time (on a side note that guy deserves the massive youtube success some other people have gotten, and the money that comes with it). I would like JP McDaniel to conduct interviews out on the floor with the players, and then have it switch back to the casters, but he is too involved with MLG so maybe someone else.
I will quote this again all over the place when it turns out I am right.

Well yes there's going to be more, I mean the showmatch is when the proper announcement is happening, he said all this on SotG I don't get why people are still confused or theory crafting.
Its obviously not a progaming house (though that might be a cool addition). iNc said it'd be the biggest thing in Western E-sports I believe, who in their right mind would assume that would qualify as a gaming house...
If its anything other than massive continual tournament, I will eat my hat.
You know what I would do if I was Incontrol? Reverse (incon)troll.
Later tonight, he'd make the long-awaited announcement: that this whole thing was a sham all along, and that he would regret it forever more. He'd only meant to make an innocent announcement about Idra's conversion to Zoroastrianism. It was only a little EG in-joke. But people ran with it, talked big to people who weren't in on the joke. People started guessing. Someone made that first thread over in the SC2 forums. It's not as if he meant badly. It's just that, you know, he wanted to be loved. Inside that hard, rough exoskeleton laid a soft and chewy interior. When he would read the excited posts that were caused, yea verily, by his gentle guiding, Incontrol felt happy for the first time in his life. So he fanned the flames, made his cryptic comments, smiled his cryptic smiles. And JP, ret, Idra, those guys just went along with it. It was only a little joke, right? Just a little joke. He was just injecting a little life into the community. That was what he told himself. Was this how Madoff felt? The situation soon grew out of control; he watched as the community worked itself into a fervor, even without his prodding. He felt that shrinking feeling of being next to something great, that paralyzing fear that you feel when you are approaching a point of no return and you don't know which path leads to the snakes. And, in his heart of hearts, he loved it. He felt like he was flying on a huge draft of hot air. Of course, he was. Just one more day, he told himself. I'll just let this grow for one more day, and then I'll tell them the truth. I just want to do this showmatch first. It'll be funny. One day turned into a week, and a week into a month. It was no longer possible to slow down the rumor train. All he could do was hang on for dear life and enjoy the ride. The first cracks in the facade came when he misspelled a famous player's five-letter name. What kind of retard can't spell Jinro? So the reasoning went. Ever so subtly, ever so gradually, people became fed up. "That's the last clue I'll take from you!" one man cried, and the others followed. Those fools, those forum-goers, had made an emotional investment; and finally the day had come when, like the Wall Street investors, they all wanted to withdraw. The deluge of emails, PMs, and Facebook messages was overwhelming. Gretorp broke on the third day, Incontrol shortly after. Faces drenched with bitter tears, they admitted to the full measure of their wrongdoing. All of the hype, all of the clues, all of the 4 games it took for Jinro to roll Idra were for naught. There would be no messiah for ESPORTS in the west. There would be no Daniel Negreanu Four Warpgate Power Hour. There would only be broken promises and shattered dreams. The community revolted. Here, finally, was an abuse of progamer privileges that the people could not stand. Their patience lasted through a thousand LR threads, a million balance whines, an untold number of disappointments and 5-minute games. This, though, was the straw that broke the camel's back. When they could resist the hordes no longer, the Team Liquid administrators banned Incontrol from the forums. Within the space of a week, Evil Geniuses was dissolved following several class-action lawsuits, Justin Wong and all. The Starcraft 2 community had been hit with what political commentator Ma Jae Yoon called "the greatest electronic-gaming-related scandal of all time". It would never recover. It was as if all of the people's enthusiasm had been spent on one dream, one thread. The GSL still went on, of course, but it was a lifeless husk of its former self. If the live-report threads had been 90% garbage before, it now made up the difference. Eventually the most die-hard fans left the scene; the magic was gone. The malaise even spread across inter-forum lines: not even Bisu could any longer rouse cheers for SKT. Foreign Starcraft was dead, and Team Liquid became a ghost town. In time, the saga of Incontrol and the Announcement That Never Was Announcement was forgotten by all.
Which is why, they think, when he returned 2 months later and revealed the unbelievable truth it hit the world like a slice of lemon wrapped around a large gold brick. That was the day, professors of a distant future would declare, that the new age of human civilization started. That was the day, as they would say, that every man, woman, and child on the planet Earth learned the name Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty.
my logic apart from all the obvious stuff, is that he started talking about all this shortly after EG partnered with g4tv for that tourney or showmatch or w/e it was.
if anyone wants to bet money on this im up for it :D
Hey you know what would be awesome? if the announcement was blizzard hiring InControl as a balance expert. I highly doubt that, all the evidence points towards some kind of tournament, eventhough tv broadcasting might be a part of that.
This just in: incontroltv was just an announcement wherein incontrol will announce the announcement he announced would be announced after the announced idra/jinro showmatch which will be preceded with an announcement for EGincontrolTV which will be hosted on owned.tv and incontrol announcing a .tv empire which will be used to announce the biggest announcement in the history of western e-sports announcements!!!

What? Please try to use sentence structure, I've read this like 4 times and I still don't know what you're trying to say.
InControl said what was terrible? The Blizzard balance team? I can't picture him saying that, Blizzard's balance team is the best in the entire world. Furthermore, InControl is my absolute favorite ProGamer, but I don't think he has the credentials to be on Blizz's balance team.
He is without debate an intelligent human being, and an amazing SC2 player, but If you've ever looked at Blizz's employment process, you would know that their requirements are fucking absurd, and you would need prior experience in the industry to be considered for a position like balance designer. Furthermore, being on the balance team would mean InControl was no longer eligible to compete in tournaments.
So yeah, it would be cool, and I would be glad because it would mean that my favorite player had landed a baller position at my favorite company, but it would be a huge blow to the scene because we would not get to watch him compete in tournaments anymore.
Yeah it's a pipe dream and I'm sorry about the sentence structure :/ And no InControl was pretty positive on the game I liked that in the clip. Idra was saying that the game was terrible and that everyone thought that and InControl was like "actually I love this game." He was saying terrible in reference to the fact that in such a large corporation only 2 people were assigned to the balance team. Idra was saying that he assumed by now that Blizzard would have hired one or two pro-gamers to advise. All I was saying was how awesome would it be if that was the big announcement? Blizzard hiring InControl and Gretorp.... (and yes unlikely in the extreme but c'mon we can hope
