If I'm better than average in every aspect, this can't be right.

well... going from practicing on a treadmill...

4.0 speed is just about too fast to walk, and you'd be at a rate of 15min a mile.

3.5-3.7 feels like a power walk and even then you'd be doing a walking mile in over 15 minutes.

2.5-3.0 felt like a regular, brisk walk. Good enough to cool down. 3.0 is a twenty minute mile.

I'd run at a rate of 7-7.5 for about twenty minutes. Never much of a runner, but goddamn I'd be gassed afterwards. I'd have to guzzle water and air for a while.

edit: i'm 5'9"

i'd assume if you were taller or shorter these numbers would be off some

Well I'm 5'8" without shoes and 5'10" with shoes (yay for Asian height boosting soles), IM STILL AVERAGE

I suppose for a guy who's 48 pounds under average, it's pretty good to be able to do sit-ups and push-ups at average rates. No way in hell I'm going to bench 180 though...

No one who runs a mile in 12:00 is going to bench press 180 lbs, let alone have a resting heartrate of 52 BPM. Clearly a load of bullshit.

Yeah, the thing is, they don't take all these tests from the same people. They probably have one large sample group do bench presses, and then a different group do the mile. Also, minima and maxima in different activities will change. For example, only very fit people can do a lot of pull-ups. Even if you can bench a lot, you might not be able to do many pull-ups. The worst people at pull-ups ending up doing 0, so that also pulls down the average. That would explain an abnormally high bench press compared to an abnormally low number of pull-ups. I know a kid who's pretty small, so he can't bench crazy amounts, but he can do one-armed pull-ups, which are balls hard.

it says the average man can run a mile in 12:00 (and that's a typo as other people pointed out)

it says a fit man has a resting heart rate of 52 bpm, not the average man

it confuses the reader by providing data for two different groups of people and only telling you that in fine print

shorter than average by 1.2 inches, last mile I did in 7:00ish, a little above average for pushups, above average for situps, 150lbs, bench 130 =(, 7 pullups. But I'm Canadian so those statistics may not apply for me =P

remember these are suppose to be the average of a collection of data comparing them to yourself or thinking it in the terms of the perfect stats of one person makes it silly. So comparing two or three of the stats together just don't make any sense considering how different people are.

As was mentioned on previous pages, the 12 minute score is for a mile and a half not a mile. Still depressing but not nearly as bad as a 12 minute mile (which can be done by any fit person walking)

If I'm better than average in every aspect, this can't be right.

yay for 7 second orgasms!!!

when they say what the average data is in this case, i would hope that they would use median data and not mean

I'm Asian, and only 1.2 inches shorter than the average man. I guess I'm alright with that.

Yea seriously that made me feel weak. I work out regularly and that is my max. The stats are pretty bogus, or at least some of them are. The bench numbers are too high and the mile time is too slow. I'm sure even out of shape people can do a 10 minute mile if you don't have some sort of disability and aren't ridiculously overweight.

be optimistic, maybe he means height wise...

To be even more positive, I believe girls are only sensitive 3-3.5 inches in, I remember it was a 3.something for sure. Maybe it was most sensitive... idk, but it guarantees everyone has the right tool for the job, so it's just up to them to do the job right. SCIENCE, BITCHES!

don't let the overconfident jock types get to ya there is such a thing as too big, and a girl won't want someone that's too big inside her(or him heh)

Oh man, I thought the average american male was 6 feet tall. Huh 5'9" is quite short in comparison.

Asian and 6'3" too bad I'm still skinny as hell though. Still got 6 more years to hit the physical prime though.

I notice some people commenting on how the picture-boy looks in no way related to what can be considered the "average" man.

I can't be certain, but I'd say he was chosen with good reason. Using a picture of an incredibly fit man in stark comparison with averages of other men accentuates the differences thus making the article more interesting to the consumer.

I'm a tad surprised the pull up count is seriously 1. Most men expend all their arm muscle strength forcing themselves up once? Failness humanity
